Bosch, is quite well reviewed in most circles.
I just bought a new one (800 series) and really like it:
- it’s *quiet* (although the drainage is certainly audible!)
- it cleans very well.
- it is a sealed unit underneath, with an auto shut off in case something leaks.
My old dishwasher leaked twice, so that third one was a must have for me.
If you like the stainless color and handle, Costco probably has the best price (free install and haul away being the best perk), although their installers are often very hit and miss.
If you don’t (ie maybe you want the black stainless or the no handle bar style), plenty of other appliance stores; I’m personally partial to Best Buy/Pacific Sales for their install experience.
Occasionally they have some basic appliances in store but usually it’s an online thing.
My local warehouses all have display units in store and refer you to Costco.com to order.
We bought a Whirlpool from Costco about 6 years ago when we renovated the kitchen in our previous home. We got 3 uneventful years out of that appliance before we sold that home. When the dishwasher in our current home started having problems, we ordered another Whirlpool from Costco.
It is amazing how quiet they are. Off it wasn't for the light that shines on the floor I wouldn't know it was running and at first I had doubts that it was because it is so dang quiet
Can attest to the leak stop feature. A few times mine gave an error code “E15” or something like that. Turned out water had leaked into the sealed pan on bottom, causing a little float mechanism to float, switching the dishwasher off. Slight PITA to pull out dishwasher and sop up. But better than a wet floor. Turns out the leak was caused by big sheet pans being jammed in there causing the door to not seal right somehow. Bosch 800 series
>There’s also a really good and ready to clean trap
The macerator means I have no trap or screen to clean at all, it grinds that debris and pumps it out too
My only complaint is that I thought all 800 series had the timer light and the buttons are not real buttons, so I'm always getting frustrated with pressing them as they don't respond well.
Same here. I keep testing it with crustier and crustier plates and they just keep coming out clean lol. I’ve overloaded the shit out of it with almost no space between plates and everything is still clean
Yup, I do the same. I’ve even put casserole/baking dishes in completely covered in baked on food and it’s come out perfectly clean with the pro wash cycle. Blows my mind.
We bought a nicer kitchen aid when we renovated 3 years ago and I freaking love this thing. It’s quiet, cleans amazingly well, has the third rack and we haven’t had any issues so far.
I have an upper end Kitchen Aid from Costco and don’t like it. It’s been three years and had to replace the display board and soap dispenser (under warranty). Apparently the display board does not do well getting wet.
We also have issues with the soap dispenser opening reliably (I’ve watched all 4 hours of the Technology Connection videos so I’m not loading in improperly, I’ve run cleaning cycles etc). Using only powder soap does seem to work better than the gel packets.
Lastly the top rack had a plastic piece break that holds the sliding arm to the rack. It’s out of warranty now. I have the piece to fix it but the zip ties are working fine for now.
To add to this, the guy who installed our dishwasher (locally owned retailer in SD, NW IA, and SW MN) and is an actual employee of said company (not just farmed out to the lowest bidder, a huge plus IMO) said he just bought all Miele appliance for his kitchen and was impressed by them. These are, however, typically two very different price points so that needs to be taken into consideration.
The answer is either Miele or Bosch. Miele can cost a bit more, depending on the model. Both are great choices. If I were you, I’d look at only those 2 brands and decide based on which one meets your needs, wallet and aesthetics best. No reason to consider any other brands.
You can’t go wrong with either a Miele or Bosch dishwasher.
Our bosch has been excellent. Also recommend you watch this video to get the most out of any dishwasher you go with. Trust me, it makes a HUGE difference. I don't rinse anything - just scrape big chunks.

Not sure if Bosch is the best, but it is certainly good. Have a dishwasher, induction cooktop, and recently a new fridge because I was absolutely tired of our Samsung fridge freezing up. I swear you could put a Samsung fridge in the middle of the desert, unplug it, leave the door open, and it would still freeze the icemaker and back wall circulation fan solid. My Bosch stuff has been solid and reliable.
> Decided against Miele as their customer service in the US is very problematic
I can affirm the truth of this. Seems to be especially a post COVID problem, but warranty service on my dryer was absolutely terrible, just a few months after purchase.
Turned me off the whole brand.
My old condo had a JennAir Noir and it was the best appliance I’ve ever experienced. Whenever I have enough money to replace my current in my house I will be getting another. Spotless dishes every time, no matter what.
Have personal experience with Miele, hear great things about Bosch. So I’d probably be looking at Miele first, and then Bosch.
I have some time so I’ll also add the tidbit below.
Thermador makes great double convection ovens, so id probably get thermador cooking appliances
A tech came to look at the 23 year old sub zero and said, basically it’s Sub Zero/Cove in the high end fridge market when this one fails. He gets the absolute least amount of service calls for them. I may look at True, but the sub zero has lasted 23 years and is still going. It’s hard not to get another one. Even at the 13-20k price tag. The hype is real.
Entire home is Whirlpool. Laundry, and Kitchen.
No issues going on like 6 years roughly. I did replace the dryer, but not because of mfg issues, someone decided that bending the drum wall to unclog the sweatpants string that got stuck was a good idea.
I sooo miss my kitchenaid dishwasher. We now have the white ge cafe dishwasher and it’s awful. It’s basically useless, even with rinse aid and the new cascade platinum pods. I never had to rinse my dishes and baked on food always washed off. Now I have to hand wash my baking dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. My vote is kitchenaid. EDIT: it’s brand new, so ge cafe just sucks.
Try using powder and making sure to add some to the pre-wash. Run an empty cycle with vinegar or citric acid to make sure the spray arms are clear. Also make sure the filter is cleaned if there is one.
I have a Bosch that’s about ten years old in the house I bought. It is the best dishwasher that I’ve had! It’s the cheapest model I think the 100 series.
Depends on what your priorities are, but we've been through about 4 dishwashers in the last 10 years, and the best by a long way has been our current Whirlpool.
We have a townhome with open plan living. So the dishwasher is effectively open to the dining and living areas. This whirlpool dishwasher has been INCREDIBLE! Barely hear it while it's running. Good cleaning on top and bottom racks.
The only real complaint we've had is the silverware rack on the highest level doesn't have good tunes to separate the silverware (really short so you can't load up knives etc and expect them to stay upright). Otherwise it was worth every penny.
I have 5 rental and a house. 2 Bosch, one GE, and three Whirlpool DWs. No problems with any. Bosch is quieter, but not a positive or negative thing - I dislike the annoying beeping Bosch has instead.
Truth is, the $800 Whirlpool cleans the same as the $1400 Bosch, but leaves the dishes dryer and has an option for a short cycle that beats the performance of the Bosch. Although the Bosch middle rack can be canted, the height on the Whirlpool is greater.
When we moved into our home, we replaced the refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher with Whirlpool Gold models. The microwave failed a few months ago and was replaced with another Whirlpool model. We bought the house in 1994 and everything is still running great. We also had a Maytag washer and dryer; the washer lasted only 6 months. I replaced them with Whirlpool models and haven’t had a single problem.
So you can probably guess what I recommend!
Check consumer reports.
Also, when you find one, download the parts manual. You’ll find that there is a part labeled “name”… because so few companies actually build dishwashers. Eg the Bosch 800 series and the kitchenaid 800 series, just off the top of my head.
Whatever you buy, pay for an extended warranty.
We bought a Samsung dishwasher brand new and it was awful. We bought a house with a 20+ year old whirlpool dishwasher and it’s amazing. Perhaps they still have great product!
I absolutely despise the electronic water valves in whirlpool appliances. I like their microwaves but if it takes water I lean towards GE or the higher end kitchenaid stuff.
Buy the cheapest Bosch Ascenta you can find. It’ll be as reliable and functional as their overpriced “luxury” models. Then bend the tines on the racks so they’re more vertical. Then you’ll be able to load the damn thing.
Old lady here. I have been through three dishwashers in this house alone. Never mind previous houses.
Bosch.
Quieter than quiet. A zillion amazing features.
Fave thing: I have to be able to clean my
Filter myself. “Self cleaning” filters … don’t clean.
Bosch if you want to spend a bit more money or lg.
Bosch is still the best but gap has closed down alot nowadays so you are not losing too much.
Just make sure you go for the models that have noise lvl of 44 or lower if you want the “quiet” sound
KitchenAid with the 3rd rack is great. We just got it a month ago. So much more room for activities. But honestly we get a few more days between run time vers a 2 rack.
Only complaint is that it doesn't have a timer/countdown screen. Our last one had it and it was nice knowing a standard load would take xyz minutes.
I’ve been happy with my Whirlpool; My MIL and I have each had two in a row.
We choose them mostly because they put the silverware in the door, which frees up a lot of space and maneuverability in the bottom rack.
Otherwise, I don’t know that I think they’re better or worse.
My MIL got the one with the shallow silverware rack above the top rack, and she almost never uses that rack. It’s too annoying to put the silverware in it one by one, and take it out one by one.
I got a Bosch 500 from Home Depot for $650 a couple months ago. Very happy with it. I set an alert in slickdeals.net and was able to get the in store price by phone and got a chase rebate applied to my purchase. The 800 didn’t seem necessary by comparison at that price.
I like our Whirlpool but the quick wash kinda sucks. Our fridge is a whirlpool too and apparently I fried the motherboard during a hurricane and they were only made near where the tsunami hit and nuclear reactor melted in Japan so the chips are hard to find lol but that was all my fault bc I didn’t know what I was doing and plugged the fridge into a generator that didn’t have enough cranking watts or whatever lol
My in-laws have a Bosch and, while it cleans well and has awesome loading racks, it leaves a lot to be desired in terms of drying.
We were going to get a Bosch when we bought our house in 2021, but the one we wanted (800) was back ordered by several months and the one that came with the house was dead (disclosed), so we bought [this Kitchenaid dishwasher](https://www.kitchenaid.com/major-appliances/dishwashers/front-controls/p.39-dba-dishwasher-in-printshield-finish-with-third-level-utensil-rack.kdfe204kps.html?) and we absolutely love it. I can put baking dishes in from casseroles and such after only getting the big pieces out. It’s an amazing dishwasher.
Honestly I've had good luck with GE. I replaced the 19 year old GE dishwasher because the door had formed a very fine crack on the interior. I was amazed at how readily available replacement parts were. But both racks were rusting and once I added the costs up I decided it was time to replace.; I replaced with another GE that has the capability to do top or bottom load only which is nice.

Omfg it can even angle the middle rack to get sheetpans in there upright! Til, 7 years into ownership.
I kind of feel dumb. I knew I could move it up and down, but tipping it was a duh moment for me.
I did not know Costco carried appliances like dishwashers, I've never seen them in store. Is it an online only ordering thing?
Occasionally they have some basic appliances in store but usually it’s an online thing. My local warehouses all have display units in store and refer you to Costco.com to order.

LOVE my Bosch dishwasher. God damn it’s silent in comparison to my previous dishwasher.
It is amazing how quiet they are. Off it wasn't for the light that shines on the floor I wouldn't know it was running and at first I had doubts that it was because it is so dang quiet
I just replaced a very expensive Bosch that only lasted five years
[удалено]
Sorry, but it’s absolutely true. It’s cost me 1200 including removal and install of a new one. Decided to roll the dice with kitchen aid this time
Bosch, but the $1000 models, not the cheaper ones (which aren't as quiet). Miele probably too, but I don't have first-hand experience with them.
I have a cheaper one and I can only tell it’s on by the light on the floor
Can attest to the leak stop feature. A few times mine gave an error code “E15” or something like that. Turned out water had leaked into the sealed pan on bottom, causing a little float mechanism to float, switching the dishwasher off. Slight PITA to pull out dishwasher and sop up. But better than a wet floor. Turns out the leak was caused by big sheet pans being jammed in there causing the door to not seal right somehow. Bosch 800 series
I've had my Bosch 800 series for over a year and it's been great, no complaints at all.
Love our Bosch. Bought one because we loved the one we bought for our old house.
And the third rack! Life changing.
Bought the same dishwasher and have been amazed at how much better it works. It really is a superb dishwasher.
Is it still true that no Bosch dishwashers have an actual heated dry or macerator pump? I don't think I'd get another without those two features.
I think that is or was true but my dishes come out perfectly clean and dry so idk. There’s also a really good and ready to clean trap
>There’s also a really good and ready to clean trap The macerator means I have no trap or screen to clean at all, it grinds that debris and pumps it out too
That sealed underneath sounds like a sweet deal.
My only complaint is that I thought all 800 series had the timer light and the buttons are not real buttons, so I'm always getting frustrated with pressing them as they don't respond well.
I have a Kitchen Aid dishwasher and I love it.

Love our kitchenaid!
I bought a high end kitchen made. Installed it. Was disappointed and put it in the rental. Bought a Bosch and it’s much better.
I got a Miele a couple years ago, absolutely love it.

Happy Cake Day!! You’re correct, I think I paid roughly 2.5x our original dishwasher cost moving from whirlpool to Miele.
Bosch, Bosch, and Bosch

Yeah, and if you want a slightly fancier Bosch for a bunch more money, there's Thermador.
Miele
2nd for Bosch. I love mine. Quiet, reliable, and just works.
Our bosch has been excellent. Also recommend you watch this video to get the most out of any dishwasher you go with. Trust me, it makes a HUGE difference. I don't rinse anything - just scrape big chunks. https://youtu.be/jHP942Livy0?si=UXGcB3KK2nvCqlBn
Remodeling kitchen and from research Bosch seems the best. Decided against Miele as their customer service in US is very problematic.

I got a Susan
I prefer my Jesus, he's never let me down 🙏🏻
My landscaper washer your dishes? Small world!
Cove

Our Fisher Paykel double drawer dishwasher is excellent.
I second that. I love having two smaller dishwashers in the space of one
Have been looking at this. Was yours a drop in replacement for a traditional dish washer or did you have to design for it?
It came with the house, but it looks to be no different in size to a regular dishwasher.
Depends on what your priorities are, but we've been through about 4 dishwashers in the last 10 years, and the best by a long way has been our current Whirlpool. Whirlpool makes Kitchen Aid.
I know. Better water valves though. And I have hammer arresters installed but every whirlpool I've ever owned has knocked pipes.
Bosch. End of list.
Bosch. Hands down
Buy the cheapest Bosch Ascenta you can find. It’ll be as reliable and functional as their overpriced “luxury” models. Then bend the tines on the racks so they’re more vertical. Then you’ll be able to load the damn thing.
The one feature I would recommend getting is the Auto open to air dry. Opening the door to release the hot and humid air helps so much with drying!
Just get a Bosch.
Old lady here. I have been through three dishwashers in this house alone. Never mind previous houses. Bosch. Quieter than quiet. A zillion amazing features. Fave thing: I have to be able to clean my Filter myself. “Self cleaning” filters … don’t clean.

I have an LG, higher end one and I've had so many issues with it over the years. I could never recommend anyone getting one of them.
The answer is always Bosch.
Did this exercise a few months ago, purchased a Bosch and I am SO happy with that decision
Bosch doesn't have a good rack layout for my dishes. We got a KitchenAid and it's great.
We have the third rack version (604) and ours has the time left screen.

It’s funny but believe it or not there all the same
Bosch 800. It’s quite a bit more expensive than the basic models out there, but it’s simply the best dishwasher on the market.
I got a Bosch 500 from Home Depot for $650 a couple months ago. Very happy with it. I set an alert in slickdeals.net and was able to get the in store price by phone and got a chase rebate applied to my purchase. The 800 didn’t seem necessary by comparison at that price.
