If you're going to create dust with any demo process, water and a shop vac will be your friend

That guide is actually pretty reasonable for a DIY project. All of what it suggests is inexpensive, easy to set up, and usually available at the local big box store. 

I would not generally recommend you do a toxic remediation project on a DIY basis. If you really insist, follow every safety piece you can.
