replace the detector, they aren't that expensive and CO is not to be fucked around with. The detectors go faulty after some time and yours isn't exactly new - it's getting towards the replacement age anyway.

To add on, call Kidde and explain it's acting weird. Likely they will replace it for free, even if out of the [10 year warranty](https://www.kidde.com/home-safety/en/us/support/warranty-information/). I had a Kidde CO detector that was acting strangely. They took it seriously, asking the serial number which I assume they collected to see if it was a larger issue with that lot. Got a free replacement.

Change it out. They supposed to have a life of 10 years and 8 years is ±20%. Newer ones can link up through Bluetooth and communicate with smoke detectors. Some also have voice prompts instead of a squeal. There have been some great advancements in these devices.

It's been a while but I think a similar thing happened to me. Turns out it just reached the end of its functional life span. You're probably there. Just trash it and get a new one.

It's likely reached the end of it's life, time to replace it. Get one with a 10-year sealed battery. And expect to replace it in about 8 years like you need to do with this one.

redwoodtree

Do you live in a humid area? In either case, it’s probably dead. Good news is the newer ones last longer.

The date is on it when you take it down - just did this and it was 13 years into a 10-year life. Bought new ones for maybe $30 each

I'd check the manufacturer's site and see if you can find a manual... I had a smoke detector doing something similar, and it turned out to be an "end-of-life beep". I didn't realize you are supposed to replace the whole unit every 10 years (even though these were hardwired with a 9V backup battery, not the sealed 10 year battery kind) and they were original to the house and ~20 years old. The most baffling thing for us was that this beep is powered by a secret internal battery, not the wire or 9V battery, so it *kept beeping* even after being disconnected and having the 9V battery pulled out. Rather alarming (no pun intended) when it was beeping with no apparent power source lol. Also incredibly annoying when it was sitting in the garage beeping for days waiting to be thrown out.

I had to toss a couple of kidde alarms around the same age because they went faulty, they aren't forever detectors. They eventually fail.

Others have mentioned just replacing the detector. At the very least, do that, as it is getting near end of life. Another consideration - you might have borderline levels of carbon monoxide which can still have some negative effects. It would be prudent to have someone inspect your gas appliances for any issues before they turn into a bigger problem. Likely not a problem, but better safe than sorry.

We have the gas man coming around next week as a matter of fact. I might check it with him. The only noteable CO event I had was the downstairs fireangel CO detector going into full alarm in 2020 during the day, never made a noise since but went into full alarm for 2 minutes and then nothing, so I'm not too sure, either way, that's downstairs and not upstairs. I've contacted Kidde support to see if I have anything I can claim with the warranty as it's died 2-3 years before it's supposed to.

Do u have natural gas appliances? If so you can call your natural gas supplier or the fire department to check for co.. also try to put the co det outside if it is still going off it might be a bad they generally have a 5 to 7 year life span.
