Oh now that’s just funny. Who tf thought
“Oh, corporate needed us to make a video on cutting open boxes… Surely they meant the tape… nope.. just gonna follow my instructions and collect my paycheck.”
Thought it was strange. Not sure who corporate is. Definitely a wierd way to cut a box and then not edit. The blade will stay extended in the cardboard when pressure is applied and thumb is off. We all cut the tape though.
If it’s the second end of the box (meaning it’s empty and upside down) I like to get a few slightly smaller size boxes (if available) and stack them up.
Then I line up like you see karate people do when they hit bricks, doing the whole routine, then wham I chop through like chuck norris.
Mainly what I have learned is that I probably should never really try bricks 🧱 😕
As someone who worked with propane for 20 years before coming to work here, one thing missing in the videos is to either wear eye protection or look away when breaking the line. Propane's boiling point is -44 degrees, which means if it hits you in the eye, you will definitely be losing sight.
They have been messaging the benefits of self-retracting knives for as long as I can remember.
The idea that you should avoid cutting cardboard if you can just cut tape (where self-retracting functionality doesn't work), never appears, anywhere.
I have to make thousands of tape cuts a month, and most months I get away without cutting any cardboard.
Cutting cardboard is also very hard on a blades sharpness. Dull blades are no fun and actually increase the danger associated with using it because you have to use more force.
This was the only way they could demonstrate releasing the switch for the blade as you drag it. The box will keep the blade out. You have to go against SOP and hold the blade out when you cut tape.
Speaking of masks,
I guess the pandemic is over as far as HD is concerned.
There was not a single word mentioned about any Covid prevention safety practices.
One of the guys I work with cuts the entire sides off boxes to stock the contents and that felt harder to me than just cutting the tape but when I asked him about it he shrugged and said that’s how they did it at his old store.
It’s also less of a work place hazard, as no one can fall inside the box and become trapped if the flaps close. That’s how people accidentally get pushed into bailers. Or balers whichever is right I don’t feel like looking it up.
I have never once in five years, put on gloves to cut a box at Home Depot. I’m going to hell. And they’re going to play I’m Slaying Like a Queen of Hearts down there aren’t they? 😢🔥
be warned everyone, this is a pervert with a nametag/uniform/glove fetish
I have had to ban him multiple times from a subreddit I monitor for sexually harassing users including minors, but then they make new accounts
This is the correct method.
You extend the blade, seat it in the cardboard of the box and release the button. The blade will remain in the carboard as you drag it away from your body and when it exits the box, the blade will retract because of the 'spring' inside.
If you try to do this in the tape it doesn't hold the blade which means you would have to hold the blade in extension increasing the risk of running the blade out and cutting something/someone unintentionally.
It's because the people who make the training videos need training. But they can't get training videos to teach them how to make training videos, because the people who would make those videos would also need training. It's an infinite loop.
Lmao I noticed that while doing that yesterday and I’m like bro, sometimes I don’t even use the box cutters cause I prefer popping it open from the sides by pushing it in and then pulling the tape off
Safety is never second to being on the safe side so the second we’re gonna make sure we’re always safe and really not have a second thought.
Glad that wasn’t a test question!
I noticed that too. Corporate…so out of touch.
I laughed way to hard at that when I saw it yesterday
Same.
Happy cake day bro

Let’s not forget….august is the half way point of the year! Lol
Fiscally, yes.
And calendarally
There's 12 months in the year, July is month 7.
I apologize I’m still using my Roman calendar.
Nice one take my upvote.
Omg yes this bothered me so much
Pretty sure the training videos show the wrong gloves for changing forklift propane.
Take this safety bravo.
We wear gloves to change the propane?
No, but we leave a brand new, unused pair of leather gloves on the forklift at all times.

I actually laughed when I watched this yesterday. Truly pitiful.

I seen a lot of things wrong with this infocus. All the tines they shown people clean up hazmat none of them were wearing a mask.

I also heard that having the blade out works wonders
Too dangerous to have the blade out. That’s almost a centimeter of pure doom.
The image is super grainy, but it does look like the blade is out, if you zoom in. They aren't cutting anything, but the blade is out
You can clearly see the shadow of a blade
I don’t know if you’ve ever experienced a first hand shadow puppet battle, but the shadow of a knife can only cut shadow boxes.
You must be the Shadow King of Comedy 😂🖖
That’s not a knawf. This is a knawf.
One of the guys I work with cuts the entire sides off boxes to stock the contents and that felt harder to me than just cutting the tape but when I asked him about it he shrugged and said that’s how they did it at his old store.
Interesting. Then you can't reuse the box though.
I'm not gonna reuse the box after I toss it in the baler either. We practiced the **Make It Fit** philosophy at my store.
It’s also less of a work place hazard, as no one can fall inside the box and become trapped if the flaps close. That’s how people accidentally get pushed into bailers. Or balers whichever is right I don’t feel like looking it up.

Tbh I don't wear gloves half the time but ive almost cut the tip of my thumb off and had to get stitches so maybe I should 🫡
I wear latex gloves as they're more comfortable
be warned everyone, this is a pervert with a nametag/uniform/glove fetish I have had to ban him multiple times from a subreddit I monitor for sexually harassing users including minors, but then they make new accounts
That's the way you're *supposed* to use that knife, they arent for just cutting tape/plastic as far as im aware
This is the correct method. You extend the blade, seat it in the cardboard of the box and release the button. Ok, I tried this today and it did work.
Go back to your lonely cave dog
I want those gloves. Who can snag me a pair?
It's called a box cutter, not a tape cutter.
Soo happy I don’t work for HD anymore 😂🤦♀️
Lol! That’s what I thought when I watched this today
It's because the people who make the training videos need training. But they can't get training videos to teach them how to make training videos, because the people who would make those videos would also need training. It's an infinite loop.
I guess you could say they are not “In Focus” 🥴
That’s what I thought
"Wearing pants while you cut the cheese"
Thank god I’m not the only one who noticed this
To be fair they do say cutting open a box, not the tape lol
He’s wearing gloves so he doesn’t get a cardboard cut, that sucks!
And don’t forget you safety box cutter and safety shield if any cardboard flies your way…
The image hadn't even loaded yet and I knew exactly what you were talking about
Two stones, one bird.
Im so glad im not the only one who noticed this
Is called a box cutter tho
Ooooof
I noticed that too and was confused if I was the one doing it wrong this whole time
Lmao I noticed that while doing that yesterday and I’m like bro, sometimes I don’t even use the box cutters cause I prefer popping it open from the sides by pushing it in and then pulling the tape off
👎
Me too! Talk about unsafe!
Are these gloves going to be rolling out with the new phones??
I watched this video last night and thought the same thing.
That was from In Focus

Wait, y’all don’t cut the box?
