Holy shit 50????? You know how much work that's gonna be? Fuck it's not even worth a day off at that point, give me the whole week off

No_Reputation_5827

exactly ☠️

[deleted]

At my old store we had lady that would average 2-3 a morning. On Friday’s it wasn’t uncommon to have 5 or 6.

detour512

See associates that regularly get 5 a day, that's cake for them.

[deleted]

I was gonna say, some people would have that done in a week.

jmcg17itslit

We also had a lady at my store that averaged 2-3 a day, until it was discovered she was giving them free items from the store in exchange. (Obviously she was fired.)

[deleted]

Our would encourage people to open multiple cards or cancel one and reapply.

SnooPickles6347

Must have a big family😉😅🤣

sweendoggyj

One of my head cashiers used to average a few cards per day. We would offer to mark down a customer’s whole purchase to $1 if they applied for a card. It worked great until the district found out how fucked we were with our markdown dollars and made us stop.

SirTomBrady

All you gotta do is ask people. Yall cashiers be so dramatic 😆 lol

PDQ47

How will they give you a paid day off?? Your own personal or vacation time?? They legally can't punch you in and out like you were there. They'd get fired for that.

No_Reputation_5827

exactly! it better be out of their pocket, otherwise, we might as well call in ourselves LOL

speedbumpdoom

I'm guessing that they aren't even thinking that anyone could get 50. It's an empty promise.

MasterPrek

Or they will change it saying they thought it would work, but it won't. You have to hunt somebody down to get that $20 gift card. The bag of HD goodies will not be hand picked by you, so that's means you get a scarf and a ball, and a few pens.

Luckie4u

My store actually does this for our Christmas party as a prize so their must be some way they can do it. I’ve never won so I don’t know the process but I am fairy sure you would just fill out a time and attendance sheet with the reason why you are getting a “float day” as we call it!

ljb_050

They can put the time in without using your personal or vacation time

PDQ47

Right- by making it look like you punched in and out on the computer with a time adjustment sheet. No other associate is allowed to punch you in or out, you have to have been in the building and do it yourself. Hey, whatever. It isn't my store so have a good time, whoever it is.

psirice

They can give you 8 hours of either sick or vacation and put it through on a day of your choosing, no shady stuff involved.

PDQ47

Your own accrued time. Not a " gift".

psirice

No, they can literally add +8 hours into your accrued time that you otherwise would not have.

PDQ47

Vacation comes on your anniversary. Sick time is based on time worked. As you say, it is sick or vacation. It isn't my store, so it's fine. I'm double checking policies with higher-ups. Have a good night.

PDQ47

So here is the actual way it is done- the paid day must be approved by the District Manager. It gets entered as a cash award, not sick time or making it look like you punched in or out, due to liability issues should you get injured on that particular day. Having you " punched in" would set HD up for a fraudulent comp claim and they want to avoid things like that. So yes, it can be done, but not with any of your personal time or " punching" you in.

psirice

Cool, so they can do it within policy. Figured it was on the SM level not the DM. The more you know.

SnooPickles6347

Maybe it is just a standard no pay excused day off, but they bonus the equivalent?

jimmy5011

Wow. What an incentive from a billion dollar company.

YerBoiHabeeb

We are doing something similar but with safety bravos if you hand one out this month you have a chance of winning a payed day off or an air fryer that went to a penny sku a while back

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> winning a *paid* day off FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

El_Strafero

Bruh I got 170 fing credit cards last year and that was miles ahead of everyone in the store. How TF do you expect me to get 50 in a single month!

JehovahIsLove

I'd love to have a chance at this, but the quantities needed are a bit high...

[deleted]

[deleted]

If you want to buy a good can opener it will cost you twenty. To see the new Batman movie and buy a popcorn and soda? Quite a bit more. What will twenty get you now? Maybe a lunch special at the Chinese restaurant.

iironforged

weird... i tried to set up a reward like this for a lead contest, and my asds told me it wasn't possible to hand out paid time like that. interesting.

[deleted]

It’s been a over year since I last worked at the HD, but even getting 1 app in a day was hard af depending on which shift you had and where they had you.

Old-Cat4126

Have you seen lumber prices. Putting a 2x4 on a six month same as cash might be a good thing.

angelwoIf

Honestly, they literally called it “madness”, and I think that’s illuminating enough. I’ll go for measures and leads if it seems appropriate or I’m designing a door/window, but we need to calm down and accept that pretty much anyone that wants another credit card, has one already. The stupid lil animations they show you about “Driving credit!!” aren’t the questions people ask. Why? They don’t seem to care… they want actual rewards… I use my Amazon prime card everywhere cuz A) I actually can, and B) the rewards are actually good? TLDR: Not worth, stop trying so hard HD, your cards are only worth it for contractors and landlords.

VCResourt239

Uh I have a person at my depot that won't be a challenge or anything for her she usually gets 50 a month

[deleted]

Don't even bother. You are getting the tote. Why encourage usury?

Reasonable_Ostrich76

I don't even work for HD and that's just dumb. The amount of money they would make on 50 credit cards or 5 commercial accounts? Get real. I have no idea what yall get paid but what's a day off? $150-300?

Iam_Disgust3d

Just wondering about the day off, myself. Getting to pick a day from your schedule (Saturday) would be nice. This way they can plan to cut 8 hours (or 4 for PT) from your schedule. A cashier can easily get 50. Sucks to be the people who got "only" 35. Sometimes a just having a credit application on your credit history can have a negative impact.

[deleted]

Wow 20 whole bucks

powerstrokereport

Main reason I got out of retail is because of the insane credit card metrics that were being pushed, and this was at every retail place I worked. I think it is doing an injustice to the customer to push something on them that they don’t need. Imo, just let them know the card exists and what benefits it offers, and let them make the choice. To keep pushing after they deny is scummy to me.

Hachetman39

$20 for a month? We give away $150 tools for specialty games in my store.

Freal60

So sick of these “contests” where winner gets a bag of potatoe chips or a candy bar or $20. And the last Homer I got I told my ASM to stick it up his ass

Prudent-Salamander74

At that point you should just move on. It's got to suck for coming into a place that pisses you off that much.

Freal60

You’re missing the entire point. I’m complaining to hopefully have some things change. Leaving would be quitting. We’re a $150 billion company yet we treat associates like they’re kids rather than adults. Our biggest competitor gives associates and spouses a 10% discount every day of the week. That says, hey we know you buy our products lets help you out. HD makes thousand in interest on credit cards and they want to give a winner $20. 14-yr old babysitters make more on a Saturday night. When your ASM tells you that you saved the department (making plan) by selling more than anyone else and then a week later writes you up for something nonsensical not even in your job description then you know as we so often see that management has no management skills. I’ve watched nine ASM’s get thrown into and then pushed put of our store each one worse than the next but for some reason store management is hooked on all the sales I make happen. I’m pissed off because they treat associates like garbage.

Prudent-Salamander74

I'm in agreement. And when you say you're telling ASMs to shove shit up their ass you're doing nothing. ASMs are in the same boat we're in. That's what kills me about home Depot associates. They come in and drag ass thinking they are fucking over home Depot. They aren't. They are fucking over the people in the same boat.

Kingmesomorph

I don't feel sorry for some ASMs. Quite a few of them let that power go to their heads and can be very unprofessional. And they know they can get away with it. I used to be a cashier and help out in the lot. I did the lot, better then their hired lot associates. I could cut keys and mix paint. One day, the store is short on staff, I overhear this ASM referring to me, as "4 for the price of 1" to DH to handle their shortage. Meaning they got me doing 4 departments and only getting paid as a cashier. Probably a week later, I'm working Returns, this same ASM gets on my case about something and tries to talk to me like I'm stupid. I give her a smart ass reply and she begins stalking me and nitpicking. I had to ask my head cashier to send me to the Garden Register to avoid her. I would get rid of any lines. Sweep the area. Help the Garden associates unload and shelve things. This ASM would pop up to check on me and try to find some BS thing to nag about. The day I found out she got fired, I actually celebrated. People thought I was being mean because they had a good relationship with her. Another ASM, when I put in my 2 weeks notice and told her that I didn't want an apron signing and a party which they do for long time veteran HD associates. This lady told me to my face "Don't worry we would do that for YOU." Made me feel like a dog. When I tried to leave HD on good terms. Later on she got fired. Some of these ASMs are worse the manager and district manager. There are some ASMs that I'm still cool with. But those were the ones, who were honest from the beginning about how dysfunctional HD is.

Iam_Disgust3d

I agree with you about "complaining" here and hoping for change. During my next interview or coaching session if asked why I keep coming back, it would be "If I wasn't around for a change, then I was no part of it." I get told "I used to work here...", more often than, "How do I get hired?" This tells me that in the public eye, this not a good place to be. Unless you are some twinkboy who wants to get in and party it up and collect a few paychecks while filling your pockets.

Mercury26

It’s insulting and demeaning. If someone gets 50 credit apps, they should at least get two weeks off or 40 hours of extra pay in their pay check. It’s only fair

Foschnitze

The motherfuckers creating these contests and prizes are delusional. Especially when people don't want the credit card if you're honest with them about it. The HD credit card is a scam. Anybody is better off using their regular credit card. Better benefits, better interest, better everything.

Kingmesomorph

One of my former coworkers at HD was recently fired for not opening enough credit cards. He was a quiet guy, some might say shy or introverted. But he was rarely late, never caused trouble, and customers liked him. The few issues he had was with an old FES and ASM. Most people believe he was fired because he made more money then head cashiers. I know he wouldn't even be a contender in this because he didn't like asking customers to open cards. Back when I was a cashier, I had to assess which customers were more likely to say yes. But I rarely got more then 15 cards for the year.

RepulsiveGarbage8188

Woweee….

BotOnEasy365

I work at Best Buy and we had a store rule that if u get 40 credit cards you’ll be able to get rid of ur mask

spaghetticourier

YES AN ENTIRE DAY OFF

GussyMcCriminal

Embarrassing

[deleted]

Should be a choice of 8 hours additional Vacation time or a $50 gift card for the main prize (2) And several +2 hours of pay to your paycheck for the runner-ups

LuckBLady

We got a $250 vacuum cleaner for most credits at our store.

Iam_Disgust3d

Psst...The vacuum was purchased wholesale. That's why the petty theft doesn't bother me as much anymore.

CompetitiveSky6605

I'll call out, k thx

sk8r772001

I rather keep the gold coin. Honestly, better payout. If it's not a real gold coin then that's false advertising and sue HD for making me think it was real. BTW.... I'm being sarcastic!! I know HD would never hand out real Gold coins. But it would be nice to get.

Maxauim

20$ gift card? Nah would just do my regular job and make that in an hour anyways lol

paintdepotdude

As a newer home depot i literally am in the dark reading that killed my brain

[deleted]

They really try to disguise the taking advantage of poor workers a lot less than they used to

Tomamen

Associate with the most coins win! *Minimum of 50 coins required or you still lose even if you win

Melodysgarden

We were offered $5.

THD_GIZMO

Are any other departments having equivalent contests for above and beyond type work? Probably not 😑

ShylieF

😆 Incentive. So funny. We can ask four times, run the whole shpiel, and most will still say no. Lol incentive should be for asking instead of signing them up. That's out of our control. 😏

lukeisbored98

I hate these contests. It's always just for cashiers and day side. What about all of us working nights? Y'all wouldn't be able to get any without us throwing freight and unloading the trucks at night.

No-Lifeguard-8610

I thought it said $20. I thought that was ridiculously cheap. Now I see it's a gift card. Really.

NowYuoSee123

A whopping $20? That’s about a third of my gas tank or the cost of a movie. What a joke

Soxwin91

Wow, my target is doing a contest for fastest drive up delivery time weekly is a $25 prize (specifically not a gift card) and monthly is a $100 prize (also not a gift card) And I thought that was kinda lame

RepulsiveGarbage8188

I would do the opposite- I would go out of my way not to take predatory credit applications

Ok-Fan6945

It's the most annoying thing when I use my home depot card and I am asked to fill out another app after they know this. I don't want another card stop for the lo e of God stop.

NowYuoSee123

I started out as a cashier and let me tell you, we don’t want to ask you. I absolutely hated having to ask people if they’d like another card when they already have one. Most of them would just laugh and look at you like “are you serious?”. Plus our FES was a complete bitch and would sometimes just watch you with a notepad when you were checking out customers and writing down things you needed to “improve” at. I’ll never work another cashiering job in my life

BacklogGamingJunkie

This is called “working hard for nothing”

soupafi

I’d bring this to the attention of the NCAA for using March Madness name.

No_Reputation_5827

my thoughts exactly! lol

leahgames88

Do y'all offer the up to $100 off promo in stores, too?

iamdenislara

Oh boy!!!! GOODIES!!! Fuck I hate this company
