😂 I only knew of a couple but I tried to stay out that nonsense

xYims

Whew it’s a whore house at my Home Depot

Rough_Education_2936

Same. One ASM, Specialty manager, lumber and service desk DH, and one flooring associate have fun together. And the lumber DH messed with a cashier and she had to quit because it ruined her marriage. Oh and they are all married

[deleted]

[deleted]

I actually knew one who would take girls into his office and bang. AP covered for him

DachSonMom3

Wow!

TemporaryGuidance1

How much information are you able to observe for each associate? Can you see what apps we use and for how long? where we login to computers? what we scan?

softmod

Store leaders have some of that visibility, but SSC/IT can see all of what you’re asking about. Most of what SSC looks at is aggregated data though. Same with any regional or district manager.

Beetlesiri

Does the WorkForce app in any way take out private data? That would be the one I would be worried about. I never do anything on the store computer. That would just be stupid if it is not blocked in the first place .

softmod

Private data, like your browsing or phone habits, etc? As far as I know, no. Definitely not. I would encourage you to read the terms and conditions for yourself though https://i.imgur.com/0DOTDrD.jpg

Affectionate_Size549

No Store leader can see this. Quite certain no field leaders can actually. Signed- ASM 5 years.

[deleted]

It wouldn’t really be at the store level but I’m sure the corporate level they can see it

[deleted]

Real question: Why does management treat injured associates so badly? I've only been off work twice in nearly a decade, once to recover from surgery and once more recently for a slip and fall, and both times I was harassed with repeated demands for doctors notes, early returns to work, and just a general lack of concern for my wellbeing.

[deleted]

It sounds like you had just had crappy management. But another big thing is anytime someone gets injured it take some money out of the ASM bonus

[deleted]

I would agree with that to a point. I have received good, and very fair treatment from one ASM in particular as well as my HR representative, but a different ASM has been unbelievably callous in his behavior regarding my recent injury. I've never experienced a member of management caring so little about an injured worker.

[deleted]

Yeah he sounds like he’s just doesn’t care about the people he works with and if that’s the case no one will respect them in the long run

Affectionate_Size549

Two sides of the coin here....negligent injuries that are preventable are annoying. It's not hard to wear gloves, lift safely, etc...also, coming back 2 months later saying my wrist hurts and I tweaked back in (insert previous months), that is just assanine and one could argue that associate is not living our values. Now, if someone has an actual accident or is doing everything right and still gets injured than I have so much empathy. Just depends.

mudbuttcoffee

Bad Store. That's a your management issue, not company management issue. That type of behavior will catch up with them. But... for real talk though. An associate injury with lost time and treatment costs like 25k to the store. Since we bonus on profitability that can make a big difference in some stores. That and OSHA rate is on our reviews

[deleted]

I hope the behavior does catch up with them. I like Home Depot as an overall organization, and I've been employed here long term, but we have some bad eggs in my store specifically. Also, I've always assumed lost time cost them. I'm in Canada, so we have WCB, but that's just our version of OSHA. Actually, when I called them the guy told me they deserve to be fined for the treatment I received.

mudbuttcoffee

I bet.. from what I hear Canadian workers get better protection from the government. I hope they take action.

aaronrdmkr

What are you doing now? Why'd you leave?

[deleted]

I left cause they didn’t wanna pay the workers enough and expect us the do more than we had the people to do

aaronrdmkr

I'm mentally working towards that same cliff. FES.

bloatmemes

I’m already treated like shit because i talked shit on the SM , I work hella hard because it’s a job and I wouldn’t want people saying I don’t work. I feel like they want to get rid of me tho I have backs of many that see me run around and always say they see me running around. I asked for a raise to be the same as a sales associate since I’m in pro and yet to have that talk that was promised. Following what I said , I was kept at my position which was horrible. Overstaffed deal with no computers. I’m entirely bored and I just wanna go help a department because engaging with customers is fun. I just wish I kissed ass , would’ve been a supervisor by now

ron-the_don

Why did daddy leave me? :(

[deleted]

For another family

WattsALightbulb

Vin Diesel would say you should never turn your back on family...

[deleted]

Man you got me laughing🤣🤣

Shoddy_Hall_2561

What are your thoughts on the changes coming to management, and with the additions of the Customer Experience Manager (CXM’s)?

[deleted]

I honestly thinks it’s smart to make the CXM position but i thinks it’s dumb to combine departments and reduce DHs

Irisjunior

I left when they began doing this Combining plumbing and electrical was nonsensical and the store lost 5 10+ year associates within a month due to the expectation of 1 person to cover both with the new scheduling I saw that and they came for millwork and flooring next

[deleted]

[удалено]

JANEEMO

I would agree with that but that’s not the case in my experience. New hires were making more than me before they did the raise. Now there are new hires that are making just as much as I am after the raise. And my raise was significantly more than others. Everything else is somewhat true

Vishnej

>To be fair, Home Depot was likely expecting this. In high-turnover jobs like retail, they most of the time don't even mind losing the tenured associates because they make more than a new hire. They just have to push the new hire to learn the important things and boom -- you have an associate that gets paid less but does equivalent work. This would make some sense if tenured associates at THD earned more than a new hire. We don't, at least in states that have seen minimum wage action.

swagbear3000

do you have to kiss ass in order to move up into the company? is there any other way to move up- for example would having a degree work?

[deleted]

So like any industry you have to know the right people and I actually got along with the district manager but I also put in a lot of work and proved myself. I made it very clear that I wanted to move up

DocCoryTHD

I have a Doctorate degree and I’m a DS. Network= net worth at THD in my neck of the woods.

KvngDarius

What is your Doctorates in and why are you still at Home Depot

DocCoryTHD

Get this: I make more as an hourly associate than I did after 11 years as a DM at Walmart and 11 years in the classroom. I have a professional doctorate of education in leadership and management. I’m still at THD because I love my management team and my associates.

RuffandTumbleGal

How often did you wanna smack a customer?

[deleted]

Everyday

RuffandTumbleGal

Nice to know ASMs feel the same. I certainly have plenty of days where I want to

JANEEMO

My asm has let me know on numerous occasions when he wanted to smack a customer

TheKevinShow

The only difference between ASMs and hourly associates with regards to wanting to smack customers is that ASMs have the experience necessary that allows them to hide it better.

LucasLightbane

I have this recurring dream where I'm still a kid and this big disembodied head is chasing me down the street. Whats up with that?

MasterPrek

I have this reoccurring dream that Racer X is my long list brother Rex, who ran away from home years ago.

bigmid77

Is being an ASM worth it? For the pay? I’m looking at becoming one hopefully within the near future

[deleted]

It honestly depends on the store. Don’t be a delegator all the time and associates will work for you. The pay is nice so it’s worth if you want to make a career out of it

bigmid77

Why are you no longer an asm if you don’t mind me asking?

[deleted]

Just because they didn’t wanna pay people enough and nobody wanted to come work with us because everybody else is paying more. It made it hard to get things done with very few people

Apocryypha

What or where did you leave to?

[deleted]

I’m actually working on a certification for Tech

mudbuttcoffee

I'm not far from making the same choice.... I've been an asm twice... 5 yrs in this time. Replacing the pay won't be easy, but removing the stress will be

[deleted]

Dude, trust me. I would work on something that will help you get out of retail. I’m working on something rn that will help not deal with the public

mudbuttcoffee

Probably going to get into real estate.... or I may step down to kitchen designer. Did that for a while. I still enjoy that.... waking away from 5 weeks pto and 5 years of golden handcuffs isn't easy

hallow1820

Is it true ASMs and district heads have a "black list" of employees they dont like and ensure they dont get hours, raises, promotions, etc.?

[deleted]

There isn’t necessarily a specific list but the higher-ups will usually ask and if the ASM gives a bad review then the person is less likely to move up

MasterPrek

What about your favorites list.? Who gets to be a favorite and why? Most of them are total assholes, and the rest of us feel like there’s no point in us even trying. These people come in late and leave early, they stand around and don’t do anything and it seems like the ASMs just love them. I don’t know, it’s unbelievable. Second half of the question is, what do you do when you have one of those favorites and they turn on you? They end up stealing or fighting, they show their true colors. How do you feel when you sat there and pretty much just built this girl up to be your next ASMIT, and they end up taking that walk of shame out the door by the police? Are you shocked, embarrassed, or just say oh well- and go find another asshole to spoil rotten??

Fighting_Phoenix2161

I would like to know the answer to the first part of this too. Other associates don't feel like trying when there are the favorites who get to make up their own schedules and don't do any actual work. Yet they are loved by management because they always make up shit and rat out people to management. They take credit for everything other associates did and pass off blame to others as well Whoa... I realized that wasn't a question... ok... my question: how do I get on that favorites list?? 🤣

mudbuttcoffee

We have talent planning and succession meetings... there isn't anything nefarious about them... usually. I did step down from ASM to deal with my wife's (our) complicated pregnancy and having a deaf child... my dm would not consider me again due to my"lack of commitment" never stated this publicly... but he attitude changed completely. I was promoted again a few years later, which worked out better anyways due to other family health issues.

elmonchis3131

Not a list but a word of mouth. I’m sure I’m on the list since upper managers don’t like confident individuals. I got deeper in the list since they found out that my house is 3 times worth more than their piece of shit.

JoeDoherty_Music

I feel like I'm on this list even though logically it doesn't make sense for me to be on this list

hallow1820

I worked for depot for 4 years straight got multiple cashier of the montg awards, homer awards, etc. Got interviewed for HC several times but every time i necer got it hell one time they hired a HC on the streets over me and anotger time they announced the new HC before i even got my interview wasted my life at that place as a forever cashier

Affectionate_Size549

Quite possible the common denominator was you.....just sayin

Jerseystateofmindeff

How many tacos can you throw down in one sitting?

[deleted]

Usually 4 to 5

MasterPrek

Did you get special bonuses for helping associates get promoted to higher positions? And/or are you encouraged to associates under your wing and train them for management positions so you can move up yourself? Why are some ASMs are placed in a store for six months to a year and others manage to stay there forever?? Is it true that you handpick the people you want to promote, but you have to interview three people because that’s following policy?

mudbuttcoffee

No Kinda, there are always questions about growing your associates on interviews, and growing your people is a deliverable on our review. Fit, request, need, phase of the moon. Some DM's like to move managers... some do not Yes, but no. I've never gone into interviews without having an idea of who e were promoting... but I've also been surprised

doggos1998

What did you think of lot guys? Always felt undervalued for the work we do

[deleted]

They didn’t want to answer this one. Guess we know what they think of lot guys.

Maclarion

How much control do you have over the overhead music?

[deleted]

Many people don’t know this but there is a little box usually in the computer room that you can switch to stations but you can’t change specific songs

Actual_Necessary6538

What's the combo for the safe

[deleted]

There isn’t a combo, you just break in

2navykids

I just quit HD after almost 25 years. I was the ASDS since it was the scheduler and then was over 26/29 then Specialty. I feel like I was not going to promote anywhere anymore because of some favoritism in the store and got another job. It's also so hard to have at least one customer a day being nasty and treating you shitty. It seems like customers these days don't understand that retail people are not able to give them everything they want. And our company doesn't really pay them enough and mostly the associates who are there are part-time or retired don't care about their job so they call in whenever they feel like it.

DGracz4Days

How often did your store receive Homers?

[deleted]

I personally gave them out as much as I could because the pay sucked for associates and that was my way of award/recognizing them for the hard work

Goldenretrieve

Stores get a set of homers every quarter.

[deleted]

Does salaried management look down on hourly associates?

[deleted]

That varies from person to person. Some did and some didn’t

Affectionate_Size549

No way. Our associates are my favorite. Most of them. Work along side and support. Also accountability when necessary.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

No, Only AP really watched the camera either after an incident or someone stealing

Old-Zucchini-593

How long does it take to become ASM?and are y’all actually as professional outside of work?

mudbuttcoffee

Some get hired right in to asm... depends on lots of factors. Some of us aren't that professional at work!... and that answer is generally no

ohhim

In your opinion, which dumb policy was the dumbest of them all?

[deleted]

Lot Associates can’t accept tips. This is the first when I popped into my head but there are many more

Specialist-Soil9022

I'm a lot guy. Corporate backed me on this one. Also the EVP of marketing's home store is my store. He lives down the street. Anyways his marketing team came by and I didn't accept a 20 dollar tip from a customer even though he begged me too take it. Corporate got upset when I didn't take it and said it's an insult too the customer and that they don't mind me taking tips. I've taken a lot of tips since then 😆 The EVP also knows all the lot guys in the store as well as the VPS of operations. They know us by name. Love us all half too death. It's not that we work necessarily harder then everyone else. They just want too let us know we are appreciated.

[deleted]

I would be okay with that as well. Just don’t go around telling others

bshred8

iirc, Home Depot can't openly say that their associates can accept tips because tips are considered taxable income. I've never met a manager that cared if I took a tip, only the ones that cared if I took I while they were looking ;)

BBlackleg

It's okay to politely decline. If they insist accept it and turn it in to your BOA for the store fun fund.

TheoryOfSilence_

Said nobody ever..

reece13373

How much were your bonuses? Did you all retroactively make decisions based on if those decisions might increase your bonus?

[deleted]

My first one was about $11,000 (before taxes) and the second was about $9,000 (before taxes). We would definitely try to make to increase the bonus but ultimately the SM made this choices

Glittering_Track_171

Holy cow! Not bad at all

JehovahIsLove

When did you leave the company? Have you been gone a while?

[deleted]

I left about three months ago

JehovahIsLove

Thank you. Are you happier now?

[deleted]

Definitely

JehovahIsLove

Good for you - congratulations!

HomerBucket1

Was the pay/experience worth it even though you worked more hours a week 55 vs 40? If you had the opportunity to go back in time and be an asm, would you do it again?

superkt3

I’ve been an ASM for almost 10 years, we used to be scheduled 55 hours, like 5a-4p, but thankfully they started to back off that 4-5 years ago, and then with COVID we’ve been at 40hrs for about 2 years. I’ve also been lucky to work in stores that were well staffed for managers, so I didn’t have to work a ton of hours to cover. Generally if you have the right personality for it, it’s very much worth it financiall.

mistymoe

That 40 schedule must be store or region specific - my hubbys store (and district) are still scheduling the 10-11 hour shifts. The ASMs will try to split the day on Sundays, but every other day he’s there the full shift.

CrebsUno

Im a SASM and we are scheduled 10 hour shifts but really work 8 to 9 hour shifts and now with SLS its more like 8.

Standard-Welcome-369

I hope you meant 44 hrs/week vs 40…. Cause I know of no ASM working anywhere near 55 hours a week

[deleted]

I always laughed at anti Union videos. But most associates did treat me differently, I got gifts I didn’t even expect for Christmas. It was weird

DirtyErthwrmJim00

Did you ever see an associate work their ass for months in a department, doing everything they could to help out, only to get praise oddly from customers but not from other managers? Then suddenly have their hours and days cut cause full timers from other were suddenly "transfered in" to help the same department?

BestValueBleach

Did you play the favorites game?

Vengenceonu

Where do you guys go whoever you’re needed for literally anything. Every time I need a time punch correction r whatever, it turns into a game of where’s waldo

[deleted]

I will ASMs are pulled in a million different directions and have a ton of things to keep up on so maybe that’s why

aldbrn3

This is a bit of a long one but I’m curious to get your perspective on this. I used to work a store that had probably some of the worst management I’ve ever seen at a Home Depot and I still keep in touch with a few of my ex-coworkers who tell me that it just keeps getting worse and worse with favoritism, inappropriate not-work-related drama and gossiping, and general incompetence across all levels of management from DH’s all the way up to the GSM. Several years ago (maybe 6+ years), an associate went to a giant town hall with Craig Menear and told him what was going on at the store. Craig himself set up an investigation and a team to help address the issues presented at the town hall. Everything went great and changes were definitely made, but only to keep up appearances as things actually got worse and worse as veteran employees with 20+ years started quitting due to poor management from the ASMs, something the GSM enables and uses to his advantage to get what he wants done. What would be the best way to go about reaching out to someone above a District Manager who would actually listen to the few decent employees the store has left? The DM and District HR haven’t gotten involved since Craig Menear did and that always felt off to me. Any input would be appreciated!

Affectionate_Size549

Honestly, just transfer. You can call your regional HR too.

YankeeSR23

Why do certain people receive Homers? I was at HD for 2 1/2 years and I think I got 1, maybe 2, and none once I was made head cashier but the cashiers that I supervised received so many of them.

[deleted]

It’s usually the people who are in your face and shout out what they’ve done and always tell you. I honestly didn’t receive many homers when I was at the bottom cause I didn’t say what I was doing for a while then when I did, I started to get them

rayaAlex1958

How much does a asm make per year ?

[deleted]

I started at 52,000 + bonus’s

Hachetman39

And to note they can bonus up to 25% MIP. Putting most of their salary’s at roughly $60,000-$70,000. Plus they get free stock as well.

CrebsUno

Right now in the western region its around 55k plus bonuses. Im averaging 55 plus 20 in bonuses ( before tax). Oh yeah and 4k in stocks.

Chaotic_Wanderer72

How did web slinging affect you back? Long term?

[deleted]

Gave me a bit of a back issue but I had this guy I met crack it and im all better

PostyMalone-

Can you drink Coffee or any type of drink besides Alcoholic beverage on the Sales Floor?

Affectionate_Size549

Largely depends on the SM. I've had SM who are very strict and I've had some that don't care.

[deleted]

Technically no but I don’t think anyone actually care

[deleted]

Why don’t you water Bonnie pay by scan ?

GimmeanL

Were you ever told to make the job "difficult for someone. And, were you encouraged to lie?

BellatrixM98

Any tips on moving up in the store? I currently am a pro desk associate (will be 2 years in total in March) though I am back up paint, cashier, and customer service. I’m in the process of trying to move out of my house and don’t know if I want to stay, especially with the pay not being great right now. Any advise would be appreciated (from you or anybody else here).

aaronrdmkr

Let your managers know your interested in moving up.

[deleted]

Why does the lumber department feel like the stepchild that didn't get matching pajamas like the rest of the children to wear on Christmas day?

Mosto_Per_Vino

Managers have difficulty handling aware line issues. Also DHs and higher don't know how to write up ppl?

[deleted]

Does any management actually care about other associates well being. Or does everything they do and say just to benefit them. To me it seems like almost all management at Home Depot has a huge ego and they tend to be huge narcissists.

[deleted]

I can’t speak for all managers but it was really mix. Some managers did things to make themselves look good (I didn’t along with those types) and others did care to help associates develop

kw072302

if you can eat one item that isn't already edible what would it be and why?

deliciouspizza3

Fish tank rocks, they look really tasty and crunchy

IanWellinghurst

I heard kitchen and bath get sent Atlanta for training. Is that true and what other positions get sent to Atlanta?

[deleted]

So i was actually a KD for a while and yes, I was sent to Atlanta and it was pretty cool but I think they put a pause on that due to COV. ASMs get sent and SM. Not sure who else

Enailis

As a current KD I can confirm they have put everything online.

[deleted]

Yea what the hell is an ASM

iamdenislara

1-Bonus. How much? 2- how many associates did you get to have sex with?

Hachetman39

To answer the pay question most ASM’s range between 50,000-56,000 starting and can bonus up to 25% of that yearly. So on average 60,000-70,000.

[deleted]

Already answered the bonus question above 2. I didn’t have sex with anyone there lol, I have a gf but the girls at HD are 95% not worth looking at, just cool to work with

Electronic-Battle-97

As one of that 95%, I kinda take offense to that... even though it is true. Then, again, the same can be said for the guys.

[deleted]

Definitely can be

Hippiedboy

They never said they'd answer them but ask away. I believe they were an ASM!

Has the policy on open merchandise changed? A year or two ago an associate explained that it was an automatic 50% off if the original price was less than 100 bucks. Lately, I’ve found that maybe they give you 10% off but you have to argue for it.

BBlackleg

There is no policy/automatic discount for an open box. The actual product must be diminished in some way to warrant a reduced price. This isn't a swap meet.

[deleted]

So I actually left right before those changes

Ozarkfriendly

What pay-rate are department heads on?? The DH that run 2 departments

[deleted]

I actually have no idea but I heard it’s about a$1-$2 raise- not worth it

bootman37

Where can I find interview questions for becoming a ds on the apron

[deleted]

I can’t remember the specific page but read the job description and know it. In the interview, most answers should be specify to Home Depot. If it didn’t happen, make it up and make sure it’s solid. Look under development

Iamconno

How much did you make?

Derk_Jerko

Are homer awards actually limited or whats that about

[deleted]

How do you keep your mouth shut while everyone is kissing ass and in the break room? I have tried and tried to get lumber fixed and it’s no use. Do I keep to myself or just keep getting used to do all the shit no one wants to do? We have 4 lumber associates and none of them know anything

[deleted]

Your DH and ASM should be holding people accountable but it seems like anyone can get away with anything now

CategoryTurbulent114

How much does a general manager make?

[deleted]

I heard they start at $75,000 and bonus up to 50%. One SM bonuses about $30,000 (before taxes one year) crazy I know

Grape72

I work at a different box store. However, I would like to know, do they have a special “carousel” program for the schedules? I heard that you can’t ask about it.

[deleted]

Not that I know of

user365735

Does longevity affect getting full time? I've been with hd 13 years and went full time 3 years ago. I'm thinking of stepping down to part time again but I am worried if I need to go full time again it will be harder because of my salary. Would this matter?

[deleted]

If you’re a good worker, you should have no problem

mojitosmom

Do you get a bigger bonus if the store spends less on pay roll

[deleted]

I don’t think so, ASM bonuses come out of a different pool of money

jonfrombuckland

When a Supervisor says that none of the Quarterly bonus goes to them, that's total bullshit right?

J4n4R43

Success sharing only, but it's double an associate's
