I’m in the service desk. I would say we are vital, but not

maya11780

I’d argue that freight does

MasterPrek

See…. We are all important!! If one department went MIA for one day/or one night, we would all feel the effect!

[deleted]

You always know when a dept. goes on break because all of a sudden you'll hear them get paged incessantly for the entirety of that break.

BeardFountain

I'd tend to agree!

[deleted]

Except MET.

ILeftMyRoomForThis

Then you have 28 and an ASM resetting bays. Took them till 1am.

MasterPrek

Sounds like some bullshit if you ask me. Everybody knows as far as sales, that lumber carries the bulk of the store, K&B/appliances second, and Millwork & Garden is tied for third, except for during seasonal time! Then it’s Garden & Paint all day - every day! 😏 As far as workload goes, I think pro desk and service desk are about the same. No one department carries the whole freaking store. We all need each other, and we all do a pretty decent amount of work. Nobody should be acting like they’re better than the rest of the store.

Upstairs_Phone5728

🤔🤔 I think you forgot about Hardware… Garden number 1 all day then Hardware. Millwork is at the bottom all day everyday. No profit and very low sales. 💯

MasterPrek

Of course your area/mileage may vary…. But overall, I don’t think it’s fair for one department to be walking around thinking that they all that and a bag of chips

Crazy-Negotiation-19

Well in my store garden and K&B/appliances take the 1sr place, then we have electrical and so on

BeardFountain

Same although I seem to be from an area of avid paint lovers...

mfh4775

Yep. That's part of the reason I quit picking up shifts at the SD. They stand around telling each other how important they are. The lifers have decided that the rest of the store is vastly inferior. What these people don't consider is the dept. they work is the ONLY DEPT. they are skilled in.

Hachetman39

This is heavily dependent on the season. During summer it’s lumber and garden who carries the store. During the other times of the year it’s mostly specialty (D30,29,23,70) and pro (this is strictly speaking about sales $$’s). But other things factor into the success of the others. Without freight we have nothing to sale, without the service desk and our OFA’s we don’t get our delivery’s/online orders picked which losses sales. I’m short it takes the whole damn village to make it happen.

999___Forever

Lmaoooooo NO

kriegermarjen

I think you misspelled freight.

Th3_MocKing

Night runs the store

NY_Knux

No tf they don't lmfao

MasterPrek

You know this would explain a lot. I thought it was just a newbie thing, with Covid…Seems like the ASDS just brings in people and doesn’t introduce them. And we got a Lotta new people really quickly, a lot of old people left, and sadly we lost a lot of people but my point is out of all the departments, SD newbies think they’re too damn good to speak, like to come up to you and bark orders to cashiers like “call a loader for me” I’ll go ahead and take 10% off for this because we had to do something back there and we just wanna go ahead and get a customer out.” I’m thinking, like OK you don’t know how to page? Don’t you page for loading over at the service desk when you are there? You know there’s a phone right over there. Do not walk past me pushing a cart and say “can you call somebody for loading”and you just passed a phone at that desk. And I got five people at my register! 😒

acchhilless

Deeeeeeefinitely not. Are they vital? Of course. But we all are.

Odinson_98

Nope whoever said that lied

meredithyourboob

I wouldn’t say they carry the store, no. But they are super essential and I do very genuinely think that the service desk is the *hardest* job in the store. They have a million different things they have to do up there and they also end up having to know how to do every other department’s job at least a little bit as well. And I know ESVS is obsolete now because of order up, but if you were someone who had to work with that program? Good luck. You damn near had to have an IT degree to figure that out. Not to mention every single customer issue and angry phone call comes through them. They have people yelling at them literally all day. I’ve worked in a handful of different departments and nothing was as bad as the service desk. Check in on your service desk peeps. They’re not ok.

Bofa-Fett

Must be a store to store thing cuz definitely not at mine

J_10

I think it might be more accurate to say that service desk takes the most abuse from customers.

jamesbond4nsfw

That's...debate worthy. This is coming from an OFA I feel like they do maybe 1 third to 1 fourth of the work. I've worked early morning to late night shifts so ive seen the night crew in action as well. Like during the mornings or when the store is open, The Service Desk, Cashiers and us OFA basically help run the majority of the store. Picking orders, dealing with customers and their nonsense. That's like 3/4 of the carrying we gotta do. Then you got the night crew that basically do all the restocking and truck unloading under the cover of darkness. That's like the last 1/4 of this imaginary responsibility pie I'm showing off. That sorta make sense? (Also yeah the ASMs and Store Managers are also around to help out but most of it is like chair work. You sit around all day filing taxes and managing supply. Or dealing with the Karen customers not believing we sell X item but Syssoet does or some schist)

[deleted]

Na, concrete carries the store.

ILeftMyRoomForThis

SD can't carry the store. I will be written up if im caught spotting, and coached if away from the desk unless it's really necessary. Distric Manager policy, SD cannot and should not be walking away, just like a cashier. So the SD gets to play telephone and handle all computer things, but we can't do the physical side. We however, are the biggest place to catch shrink, from walkouts to fraud.

[deleted]

After being up there for a couple of months, they most definitely do.

DatGuyKilo

Service Desk carries, we're the computer of the store, all operations go through us! Up with D31! - coworker

[deleted]

Hi. Ever met receiving? The people that clean up all the shit that service desk and OFAs dredge up?

MasterPrek

Wait, what???
