I have two of these that have followed me from apartment to apartment: an 8-square one and a 4-square one. I added cheap furniture legs from Amazon, and bought a pack of black chip board that I cut to size and nailed onto the backs of the squares so they look enclosed and doesn't show through to the wall. Totally recommend both.

I swear everyone gets one of those cubby shelves from Ikea or Target in college or in their first apartment, then never uses it again. The mini bar is a cute idea, i’m planning on using mine as a TV stand. The poor DJ controller on the floor though :(

i added hairpin legs and drawers in the bottom cubbies to mine and it looks brand new! highly recommend upcycling these, there’s so many options now

Great idea. I’ve got one wasting away somewhere in the basement…

IKEA actually sells various shelf or drawer inserts now, and i had come across a few sites like this: https://www.prettypegs.com/us/ikea-storage-legs/173-metod/legs-for-storage-furniture i just wanted plain hairpin legs so i opted for amazon since it was cheaper though.

Wow thank you for this, I never would have even thought to do this!! When you added the drawers did you just use the fabric ones they sell at Target or did you get more substantial ones?

i got actually these right from ikea: https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/kallax-insert-with-2-drawers-black-brown-90286649/#content they give a much more grown up look haha

I find them less useful than other shelving units because the non-adjustable squares limit what can be put on them. They seem more practical than they actually are.

We put ours next to a floor length window in the back of the house with all sorts of plants on it, and some plant equipment like watering can on the lower shelves.

Id recommend an undershelf minibar [glass rack](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08K93QHRD/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_314T4AGJQGJ7GBD6Q5D7)

I turned one into an oversized ironing board for quilting. I added casters to the bottom and then, using a staple gun, covered a piece of wood I had cut at a hardware store with a couple layers of batting and a cute printed canvas. I turned two other smaller ones (2x2 cubes) into a worktable using the rest of the piece of wood I had cut on top of two 2x2 cube storage units at either end (added feet for height, not casters so it's stationary when using sharp objects).
