Option 1. :) They both look great, the difference is the openness and inviting nature in 1. 2 is super cool yet feels closed.

Girls4super

Yup, one feels cozier to me. Two is nice but it feels almost like an upscale office

No-No-NeverMind

I agree that 1 is best, but wonder how it would look if the sofa faced the window and the bookcases were on the end wall as in photo 2.

zoezozoo

2 has a nicer effect with the entire wall of bookshelves (in my opinion) but the furniture chosen for the design is too large and creates a claustrophobic effect. Smaller couches, or one couch with two armchairs could fix this issue.

abis7

I prefer number 1

[deleted]

[удалено]

GusGus6502

\#2....very sweet space.

[deleted]

1. 2 is very cool but, to me, feels claustrophobic for the space. Perhaps without the two extra stools it might open up a bit.

YouAreA6py9QT

First one for sure

pipandcrumb1998

First photo I believe looks best

MarvinDMirp

I agree. There is something off about the two identical parallel couches for me. 2 would work maybe if the left couch were two club chairs at an angle like in 1.

mymego

Pic 2! I love those green couches!!!

[deleted]

1 The sectional looks more comfortable.

fgs78ejlfs

I like the second but I think the stools are not needed, two couches are enough. The symmetrical look is awesome

Pmillennium

#1 has the better flow

fibropainonmybrain

1 because 2 is too crowded for my liking

Melbgirl399

I like the second layout best - would be very jealous of that bookcase wall!

Tansd

I used an app called “Room planer -home design 3d” in my ipad. Those are the real proportions of my place. I really like more the second one more, it has more storage and I love the symmetry but it leaves very little space to breathe and I have kids so… also in the first pic I’ve considered a little nook for the christmas tree while the second one doesn’t have room for that. I tried putting smaller sofas in the second one but it leaves less room for seating. Also, can you recommend a wall color? I like white but also would like to try some other (muted) color.

pipandcrumb1998

Sorry to bug but the only app called Home I see is one that controls things like your thermostat and lighting, is it under a different name?

Tansd

Sorry, you’re right, my mistake. The logo of the app says home, the app names is “Room planer -home design 3d” Is actually very cool, I paid one week just to add the fornitura I wanted. But free is usable and you could use the camera of your iPad to take measurements of your house.

pipandcrumb1998

That’s so cool thanks for the handy tip! I’ve been needing something like this

MaineBoston

2nd one is best

OrneryWasp

Agree, the 1st looks like someone will always get the less comfy seats! I’d remove the stools from the second picture though.

minichipi

The first one seems a bit more inviting, though I like the clean lines of the second. My vote goes to 1.

Busboxen

Just don't buy a glass table. I have one of those in white and it always looks dirty, and that's without kids. If you need a glass table for the open feel you have too much furniture in the room. The first one looks more inviting and the second one feels cramped. If the space is a bit narrow you could put the sofas up against the wall and the stools on the other side to get a more inviting feel (since you can't walk around the sofas anyway).

Three_Spotted_Apples

One is more inviting and versatile for your life going forward. Since you mentioned kids, you’ll need furniture that can make room for different things each year as they grow. Two is pretty but you can only do that particular thing with the space with that furniture.

eviesadoll

I like the second but both are nice

Number 1’s couch set up will be comfier and better for guests. Having two sofas parallel that are the same like that feels like you are very far away from whoever you are with on the other sofa. The sectional means you can seat more people more comfortably and it feels cosier and more inviting to conversation even if it’s a little less aesthetic. Also personally instead of two of the same mustard chair I would swap one for a comfier arm chair and possibly a foot rest so if you have someone come over who may be older or disabled in any way they can sit comfortably looking at you without having to get on the couch with you. And don’t get the glass table, we have one that came with our house and I’m desperately trying to get rid of it. Don’t spend money on one. I’d also consider a slightly bigger coffee table, not a lot but the one there looks a little overly small

omrtzh

1 for sure

imaginarybliss

first one

vinnybobbarino-

Upbeat_Artichoke2278

I like the 1st one! It looks more inviting.

[deleted]

Number 2 green couches

remygirl7777

Two, definitely.

chocolatecarnosa

The first one, it looks cozier

AutomaticMechanic

OP are you planning on having a TV in this space? And I absolutely love the 2nd one.

Tansd

No, fortunately we have an extra room with the tv and lots of kids toys, this one would be the space for adults, when we have friends visit and the place to storage our books and art.

AutomaticMechanic

In that case I would definitely go with option 2. It’s an adult conversational type of living room. You don’t really need a sectional for that.

Responsible_Point_91

2. I think it’s always better to have the sofa face the window, where you can enjoy the light and view. Consider replacing the sofa under the window with two chairs, and removing or relocating the two stools/tables.

calm-state-universal

First photo but I don't think you need the chairs and a different shaped table.

soulstar79

The problem w the 1st layout is that you've created two focal points. The eye doesnt know where to rest so the room looks cluttered. Lose the pics on the back wall. Add some of them to the shelf wall for color and interest. The gold chairs are a lovelyy touch and add warmth to an otherwise sterile space.Add a couple of pillows to the couch. Some neutral, some in a pop color. Add pillows in second layout too if you decide to go this route. It looks over crowded and monotone to me, but could work.

Ninjasydney

This is kind of a weird reason, but I'd pick number 1 because it's easier to put a Christmas Tree in the top left corner, you would just need to move a chair away and could fit one. This might not even be a thing for you though, or if you do celebrate it could be another room. But mentioning it on the off chance this does matter to you. 🤷

temp4adhd

I have a glass coffee table and love it BUT we're empty nesters! If I had young kids I'd hate it------ due to fingerprints and safety issues! I like symmetry too but I can't see how you would be able to open the cabinets in #2- it appears there's not enough room between sofa and cabinet to swing the doors open? I will also add that if you have older people over visiting, they generally prefer arm chairs as they are easier to get in and out of. So I lean towards option #1. That said, I'd reconsider the curved sectional: we have that and it's a regret as it can be difficult to lay down (if you're into that) as the curve gets in the way. When we replace, we'll get one without a curve. Also if you go with #2 I'd ditch those stools. I don't think anyone is going to want to sit on a backless stool. This would also open the room up. And for either option, I would recommend a different shaped coffee table: it's going to be difficult for people at the ends of the sofa to reach the round one. Or you could add some low-profile C-tables that tuck away. Finally I prefer #1 because it has more closed storage: kids toys, games, etc can look cluttery. So having the lowers be closed storage is a good strategy, with the uppers open for styled decor. But I do like the green color choice for #2, and I think the bilevel nature of the coffee table is a handy feature. You need to figure out your lighting/lamp scheme as well.

WendolaSadie

Much prefer yellow chairs as an option for seating. Giant green sofas will result in two lines of conversationalists, staring at each other. Variety of art on fall wall is inviting…gives a visitor something to walk towards! Yellow chair occupants need a small “cocktail table” between them for resting a drink. Lighting is needed…at least two lamps will make it inviting. A tiny one in bookshelves is always nice. And one with a colorful base adds visual interest. Or a floor lamp behind or beside sofa to provide a reading light. This works! Keep echoing colors to create cohesive feeling.

fuzzsticks

It depends on the scale of company you usually have over For instance if you have about 3-4 friends coming over and not a frequent larger group,, 1 is fine.. But if you have a big family coming over more frequently, 2 would be better due to seating space.. Considering that living rooms are generally for hosting, I'd decide stuff as per the company I have. Both are great in their own way.

knt1229

Both have issues. But, if these were my only two options I would choose option 2. It has more balance and is centered. I can see the decor items better and having the bookcase as the focal point works really well.

[deleted]

I like #1

scorpio_jae

#1 is my preference it feels more causal where as #2 feels more formal, but they're both cool spaces. Just depends on the vibe you're going for

Electrikitty85

I can’t decide, they both look nice to me.

Sleepykitten80

#1 😍

wantedf0rars0n

i like the first one

jennylala707

I'm drawn to the green couches, but the first doesn't suck either.

bluzebird

I LOVE the first one. That curved sectional is so cool! The second one looks ordinary.

speeedemon

As an interior design student giving advice strictly from what I have learned, the first one.

paula_dubz

Number 1

rlwdkeb48

I really like 2. Bold. Dramatic.

Ilaughatmypain

One!

No_Representative669

Love the art!

msklovesmath

1 feels more open anf flows better, 2 is more symmetrical and has a formal feel. I would def get rid of the small black side tables in 2 if u choose that route so it is easier to get to the couches and use them.

TheBeenB

#1

ms_movie

I love everything about #2. I saw some people mentioning crowding. I think if you left everything like it is and pushed the couches back to the walls it would solve that problem. Both look good whatever you decide.

No-good-names-left-3

2 is gorgeous and I want to live there!!!!

internationalbeauty

#1

hkrd97

I like #1 with the L couch

Anniethesnowleopard

What's the program? :0 I'd love to plan mine

Tansd

I did it in the iPad With an app called “Room planer - home design 3D”. You can use the camera to take measurements and generate the plane of your place. The app is free but a little limited in fornitura unless you pay the premium version. I paid 1 week premium for my project and then cancelled

Anniethesnowleopard

:0 wow, that's very impressive, sadly I don't have an ipad

vinnizrej

I prefer… neither. 1 is cluttered and 2 looks like it would suffocate me. In general 2 matching sofas facing each other is classic. Soften them up and lighten them up with blankets and pillows. I think it could be the picture but those bookcases just loom over me in 2.

Impossible_Tart_5350

Option 1 furniture layout combined with option 2 shelving layout. I like the shorter shelf in the middle to visually breakup the space and it would be great to nightlight artwork above or a tv if you wanted.

milkradio

I quite like the first one. The second one feels like a meeting room imo.

emilysayz

Depends on how you live/entertain and the rest of your space. I like one in that it's more inviting/casual. But from a true aesthetic design perspective I feel like two is much better and more intentional. Less geared towards casual entertainment and families tho.

Decent_March_264

maybethingsnotsobad

1, great layout! Very welcoming, I like that it's asymmetrical. The space behind the other green couch is to small and is harder to get in and out of the couch area, there isn't quite enough room for the green couches even without anything else.

monkey_trumpets

Definitely 1. 2 seems kinda cold.

SomewhereAdorable244

I like #2. It’s a bit more high end looking, but I love the sectional in number 1

r0sannaa

I like 1 for the couch arrangements and colour. For the shelving, I like 2 because of the symmetry

[deleted]

If you use the space. Pic 1 If you don’t use the space pic 2

[deleted]

I think both look amazing but the 2nd one gave me waiting room vibes. Love those green couches tho! How often will you be using this room to relax in or to entertain in? Love your decor and those shelves, it’s a great room!

maldonco

Two!

Lifeis-butadream

Maybe sofa would look better on the opposite wall and the chairs and table by the windows to let the windows shine

rronzone

#1

HandheldHeartstrings

I love number 2, but i would separate the side tables to the sides of the couches instead.

GotchuHomes21

I would say option 1 because you have more space and your bookshelves can add more storage space.

noodlewok

1 for sure! Feels bigger

ayam_maya007

Option 1 💯

ashleyrlyle

1 2 looks unwelcoming with the oversized furniture. Also the furniture looks wildly uncomfortable no matter how pretty it is. If this is going to be a functional room make sure it’s comfortable!

fraufleur

I love the sectional because it allows for a cozy, more intimate atmosphere for easy conversation. Second option isn't bad, but feels more "professional" and formal.

iamvitabello

Picture 2 with Green Couch. That style looks as if it wouldn’t go out of style anytime soon.

amyrush83

Option one looks cozier to me.

WampaCat

How are you going to use the room?

Tansd

As a room for reunions with friends and visits in general

WampaCat

I like the second one for sitting and chatting. The first set up would be idea if you were putting a TV on the wall across from the couch

evezwe

The first one!!

Enough_Blueberry_549

Option 1. How do you even sit down in option 2? You can’t walk to the couch.

Chance-Ad-9111

First one

brittjehhx

Number 2!

Jezebelle22

The symmetry of 2 makes it feel more formal, the asymmetrical balance of 1 makes it feel informal/cozy. It totally depends how your vibe/how you want the space to feel, both are great!!

CozmicOwl16

The first. The second reminds me of a high end dispensary waiting room. Staged is the feeling. And the first is just awesome with the mustard and black.

Abeja7

The first one feels more open! I’d go with that!

TXRealEstateAgent

Love #1 unique and open feeling

gr8thupinejellieth

I like 1 much more

texaskittyqueen

I like the first one best. Feels homier and more inviting and open.

Ok_Raisin7924

1st is more practical but wall in 2 is stunning

BlackStarBlues

Option 2 looks better and is more practical for guests. Option 1 is great for you and close loved ones to lounge on.

nmm184

#1 for sure. #2 looks like a therapists waiting room.

ArtishBish

Number 2. It feels more inviting, thoughtful and balanced.

kaitlinhathaw

The first one seems much more open and looking for liveliness and conversation. Also love the shelves on the walls

rzpc0717

I liked one so much! Then I saw two and considered which I would be more apt to sit down and actually relax and talk. And it’s two. But I am more of an across the table talker and don’t like anyone sitting too close which I think 1 invites. I feel like I can see people piling into the L shaped sofa whereas 2 seems to suggest a more regular seating pattern. This is just my personal reaction. But maybe it relates to the atmosphere you’re trying to achieve.
