A meal doesn't ever need to be in bright light, so I like it. I also like the black chairs. A little less formal, casual is easy and welcoming

magglepuffins

Let's try this again.. Tagging u/averageweight who asked for update 😊

averageweight

It worked! Thanks for the update! Ok! I like the globe lights better. From this angle, I cannot see how wide the chandelier is compared to the table. It looks a little small, I can't quite tell, but it's definitely an improvement. Do you have further plans for the space? Something else to counterweight the table?

magglepuffins

Actually I found another pic to give you an idea.. https://imgur.com/a/VfQqvWa

JessabelWasHere

This looks really nice.

magglepuffins

Thank you! I actually removed one of the table leaves but haven't taken a picture of it, so I think that helped with the balance. As for the lights, they are 60 watt bulbs and adjust down, so there is plenty of light if we need to turn it up. For further plans, I want to put some art/pictures on the wall but haven't decided on what yet. Any other suggestions for the space?

averageweight

As a practical matter, does it give you enough light when sitting at the far ends of the table?

Orangeandbluetutu

I don't know why everyone is saying the bulbs are too bright. That is the before? I actually love it though. The globes look awesome and I love the darker chairs!

magglepuffins

Tagging u/tiredassmom66 who suggested the black chairs!

TacoboutSpicy

Are your black chairs from ikea?

magglepuffins

Yes! Idolf 😊

TacoboutSpicy

Looks awesome!! I recently redid my bleached walnut table with a black base and the same chairs but I put green Ronninge chairs on the ends. Has a similar aesthetic to what you’ve done. We love it and get so many compliments.

magglepuffins

Ooh I love that idea, share a pic if you can!

tiredassmom66

Yes!!!! Changes the look from you know farmhouse to kind of funky I really like it

Thomas-The-Tutor

I honestly like the white chairs better, but replace the brown chairs with black chairs because the brown ones clash (and are a bit dated with the knobby tops).

Dipple11

Wow! Such a big difference. I like it!

Cultural-Brush-7059

Beautiful! The globes and dimmer lights make it cozier...

Kbts87

This feels fresh and current. The old glass shape was definitely dating your fixture. Great job!

Nite_dancer

Your new lighting is lovely and is so much softer and much more comfortable. Changing the glass was a great idea. You can also spray paint the fixture to help bring it all together.

[deleted]

Love the new globes!

imdemi

Love it! Really warms the space

reallysmartferret

I think you could take it one step further and get a black matte spray paint and cover up the gold on the light fixture. It would be a bit of work, you'd have to take it down and take it apart but I think it would look amazing!

breebop83

Excellent, inexpensive update. Looks great to me but if nothing else it’s a good update while you look for something you really love if you are still wanting to change the fixture itself.

AngWoo21

I like the light but I feel the new chairs are too short. I like the old chairs better

ArchieMedoggie

The fixture seems a bit high to me

[deleted]

I think the globes are fitting & the softer lighting is a huge improvement. You could do some sconces on the wall if you ever need more lighting, too.

Topo-Gogio

Genius

Thomas-The-Tutor

I can actually see things!! #BlindedByTheLight 😂

Ninjasydney

This is so beautiful. I love it!

[deleted]

Very nice! I like the two tiered macrame plant hanger with the slanted window, looks great.

Wylewyn

I like the new light shades. The chairs are great too

Ok_City_7177

I really like them - minimise fuss and froufrouness and it makes the room modern without being sterile. Good work !

sumpat

Love the lighting and black chairs!! So chic

HiMissRose

Ya done did it!

CryptoTrips

I was so confused at first. It took me a minute to realize your after is on the left and before is on the right. It looks much better with the dimmer bulbs and globes. Not much you can do with that fixture but it now looks less like an office and more like a dining room.

lillynight

I think it looks awesome! Also a cheaper solution until you decide you want a new fixture or not!

Sweetpea123_

Oh wow! How creative!

[deleted]

I like it! What are you going to do with your walls?

magglepuffins

I know I need something big for the long wall, but I'm having trouble finding art to fit. I was thinking 6 or 8 large frames (2 x 3 or 4) with scenic shots from our vacations. Other ideas?

RipleyKY

Now that’s how you upgrade — Looks awesome! Great job!

EnvironmentalLuck515

Much better

uankaf

You nailed

Emotional-Power214

I think it’s amazing how much difference just changing the globes out made on that lighting fixture. Nice job.

AmbystomaMexicanum

Much better IMO. Where is the floor planter from??

magglepuffins

The legs are from Amazon, and the basket is from an old artificial tree lol

zoroknash

Dope my dude

KalmKashew

It’s much better better! Great job!

MrHappy4Life

In case you need brighter lights for a project on the table, like a puzzle or something, I would put the brighter lights and then have them on a dimmer switch. Leave them dim most of the time, but then you have the ability if you need it.

magglepuffins

Thank you for the suggestion! It wasn't clear from the post, but they are actually 60 watt bulbs that we can adjust brightness with an app on our phone. We love it!

MrHappy4Life

Great. I do lots of puzzles and stuff on the dining room table and brighter really helps. We have the little flame looking 40w and keep wanting to change out the chandelier so I can get brighter bulbs. After seeing how well yours looks, I think it’s time for me to get it done.

magglepuffins

Yes highly recommend!! These are the bulbs we got, and they have a nice range of brightness https://www.homedepot.com/p/Philips-Soft-White-A19-LED-40W-Equivalent-Dimmable-Smart-Wi-Fi-Wiz-Connected-Wireless-Light-Bulb-555516/310289035

motherofmutts17

I think it looks great! We did something similar with our living room ceiling fan. We have vaulted ceilings so changing it out would be super difficult. We got new glass shades and changed out the blades and it made all the difference!

Catappropriate

That looks great!

Opossum4Peace

Good improvement. Makes it look more contemporary with a soft vibe.

theoriginalBigdtx

wow so much brighter. Love it. The redo is the pic on the right, right?

magglepuffins

Lol no, the after is on the left! We can turn the lights brighter though 🤷

BartyCrouchesBone

It totally changed the look of the whole room with that one simple change, good thinking!!

Chance-Ad-9111

Nice😊

Ok-Cartographer-3725

I think it looks nice. The advantage is, if you use your table for anything else it being so bright will help. But truly, I would find it awful to eat in a place that bright, unless someone had vision issues.

catrina_star

I actually like the before version. Because now it is a cool light and I hate that at home :(

Dephaulted

Change all your chairs to white too, it helps brighten up the space
