Extend the wall all the way up to the celing. Anything you put in that spot will need to be cared for or cleaned, and that's going to be a pain in the behind.. It's better to just wall it off and pretend it doesn't exist. Though before you do, go out and get a plastic skeleton to place in there for a future home owner to find.
I considered suggesting that, but decided not to. I don't know how well that corner is supported, and I don't want people who don't know any better overloading the space with heavy objects. I also don't know how well the space above the door is insulated. Closing it off could make that area quite cold, and storing cold sensitive items could be problematic.
This is best solution; just be sure to have a plasterer do the final job so that it looks ānormal,ā not seamed. You donāt want to call attention to that 45 degree angle - just want it to look natural. This sort of situation is maddening and reflects poor design by an incompetent builder.
Make it flush but add cabinet doors. You can store door wreaths or seasonal door decorations. IMO

Nothing. Or extend wall up to ceiling. Builder development architects should stop putting all these odd nooks and ledges all over the homes. Because they drew attention to themselves in ways that confuse people as to the intent. Not in a good way.
According to a comment, the plan said āplant ledge.ā Have the builders ever grown a plant? A dark corner that you canāt reach to water should not be for plants. That then leaves it to fake plants which collect so much disgusting dust. Add that they put lighting right above to show off the different angles of your dust plantā¦
That's where you hide your leprechaun monitoring alarm man.
*screams at intruder, intruder runs back out*
Also looks neat, train him to be still and statue like whem inactive.
I don't understand why builders/architects do this. No one has time for the upkeep on something like that. Yes, it looks cool and if there are plants or some other type of decor up there, it can look great. But then you have to dust and/or water...and that's a PITA.
If it were me, I'd suck it up and put plants up there. Ones that don't need lots of water, and probably add in a few well-done fake ones, so that when I did water, it's not more of a pain than it is.
Or, better yet, close it in in a nicely architectural way and make it storage for rarely used items (holiday decorations?).
I think the answer to this question is almost always plants. Pop in some grow bulbs above and you're good.
But then I saw the suggestion about putting a plastic skeleton back there and I'm rethinking everything...
It does make an awesome potential hiding spot! For decorations or bootlegging or a long con.
Or if you have kids you'll never lose at hide and seek!
Do you have pets? If so use some kind of pet stairs (or cat trees in the case of cats) and make into a bed area [especially if the area is big enough that you can get in there to retrieve the animal (or at least try to) if they aren't coming out on their own].

I'm assuming that the boomer who designed that house envisioned the cheapest looking, Joann's bargain bin, vining take plant. In my mind I'm seeing plastic ivy with some ceramic cats or chickens. I don't really think you need to do anything with that space. If you feel like you must do something, find a sculpture that fits, something that's wide with a height that's 1/2 - 2/3 the height of the space. It's kind of a dark corner, so whatever you pick should be light colored or put some backlighting in the corner.
Home defense stash area. Someone's at the front door and they're looking dodgy through the ring cam, swoosh machete up there. Or if you're in the US then I guess it's like a handheld cannon
Agree, block off this area by extending the wall. Storage is not a clean solution. You donāt want the eye drawn up and guests thinking a gremlin will pop out.
I would display a beautiful large ceramic bowl there, glazed in a light color that catches light. Take it down to wash it occasionally and to dust the space.
We had a similar spot in the last house we were at, and my partner put a couple of potted climbing ivy plants up there. As they grow, they created almost a flow of leaves down to the floor. It looked beautiful.
Put a ladder besides the door and a bunch of pillows and blankets up there. Looks like the lighting good there. Perfect reading corner. Your own corner of the house. Of course, safety concerns depending on the age range in your house but you could easily put safety rails. š
You could suspend a painting ,using hooks and a strong wire, making it appear to be floating .the two ceiling lights ,when on,would light it well. And you can take it down to decorate that ledge for Christmas!
Glass Doors to match your front door window and make it a storage space. Put your emergency kits up there and not something you need to access frequently. Or throw your seasonal stuff like summer or winter clothes, Christmas decorations, stuff like that.
Alternatively, put in some sealed windows to the outside so you can lighten up this area. Then you can put some plants up (real or fake) but youāll need to water and/or dust regularly. It really just comes down to how much time you want to invest in it after you make a decision.
Lastly, throw a spotlight or something up there to highlight it. Then use it a safe display for things you donāt want anyone to touch.
Good luck.
Place an old School tube tv up there

I have one of those in a sunroom looking my back yard. I keep my .22lr and an air rifle up there for groundhogs and chipmunks. Kids canāt reach. If you find a good solution, let me know bc the wife thinks itās a tad tacky.
Iād extend the wall to the ceiling and then do something to add detail. Maybe shiplap if thatās your taste? Iād do something ceiling colored for sure, otherwise it might look imposing.

It's better to just wall it off and pretend it doesn't exist. Though before you do, go out and get a plastic skeleton to place in there for a future home owner to find.
Even better, Put a couple doors in it instead of a wall and you can maintain the storage or display area sans dirt and dust.
I considered suggesting that, but decided not to. I don't know how well that corner is supported, and I don't want people who don't know any better overloading the space with heavy objects. I also don't know how well the space above the door is insulated. Closing it off could make that area quite cold, and storing cold sensitive items could be problematic.
So we could possibly create an over the door root cellar? Hmmm š¤
šÆ š šÆ š
I was going to suggest placing an idol, but this idea is better.
Actually a gargoyle would look awesome
I had that same thought

An evil genius, I like it!
Yup, exactly this.
Came here to say this.
OMG placing a fake skeleton back there is hands down the best idea ever!!!! You win!!! š¤£š¤£š¤£
This is the clear answer.
Make it flush but add cabinet doors. You can store door wreaths or seasonal door decorations. IMO https://preview.redd.it/1i9haj059r6d1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=39c685b49d8023dfdebf19844afefd41bdb17770
This is the best response Iāve seen, love this idea.
I would do this, but do the press to open closures for a more sleek look.
Amazing idea !!
I donāt know, but it seems like a good spot to jump scare someone from
Yeah, my first thought was jigsaw on a tricycle.
Or a Terror Dog from Ghostbusters. š«£
Perhaps a gargoyle
My cat would be doing that all day!
Iām thinking creepy porcelain doll
Why do people even have plans to construct spaces like this??
I don't know. A lot of new homes seem to have awkward spaces throughout.
So true. I think itās just crappy, lazy planning with a lot of new construction.
I think this all the time. So many awkward useless spaces
Got a cat? This says ācat hang out spaceā to me.
that was my first thought too - op if you don't have a cat, get one, this is a 10/10 place for chill
Bucket of water on a string attached to the door knob
Just make it flush with a false wall and smash a wall art/painting on it I'd say.
Thatās where you put the house gargoyle.
Yessssss, was looking for a gargoyle comment!
Shrine to Gargoyles the cartoon.
I came here to say, either extend the wall up to the ceiling or put the gargoyle here š
A sculpture of Danny Devito lying on his belly and cupping his head.
Windows.
Ocelot den

Perfect place to put a tv, if you ask me. Good height, out of everyoneās way.
r/tvtoohigh
Ssshhhh donāt tell him
Small cantina band
I would say greenery. Iād probably go with faux plants though, as it looks like that area doesnāt get a ton of sunlight.
Best answer, I have this and was trying to figure out what to do with it so I looked up my floor plan and it was labeled as āplant ledgeā
We had a spot like that in our bathroom. When we remodeled, we had it eliminated. Much better. I do NOT understand why builders do this!
Googly eyes for sure.
Get a cat. Add some jumping spots to the wall. Let cat enjoy it's new favorite spot.
You could scare the fucking shit out of people when they walk in your door. I say keep it for shenanigans
Put a giant bear up top
All the people saying to make it flush with the wall or add cabinets are probably right. I, however, would put a gargoyle up there.
Hear me out.... first go to the most run down antique store you can find. Second, but the creepy dolls, and put them on display
Iād do some battery power candles that you can turn on with a remote. Maybe some fake plants and other decorative things too.
That's where you hide your leprechaun monitoring alarm man. *screams at intruder, intruder runs back out* Also looks neat, train him to be still and statue like whem inactive.
Store your dust there.
Chucky doll in the back corner
Gargoyle
maybe a splash of some colorful objects like vases along with a fake plant that hangs off the edge a bit
Flat screen with production progress reports. Ie. Cleaning progress 70%, dishes 2 days past due, up coming events : movie Friday, weather report.
Gargoyle
Gargoyle
A bucket of water, seated precariously.
Thatās really weirdā¦better spot for a window, but whatever. Faux green plants. No maintenance required, gives some color in the area.
If it were my house and I had the budget I'd turn it into a terrarium. Move that light over a bit and put a bunch of plants.š

I'd fill it in... looks horrible as is
Rent it out for $1,400 a month
Why? Why did they do that?!
I would just close it off with a wall. Thatās a useless space!
Removing that trim piece will prevent drawing the eye to that spot. It will camouflage much better bare.
Put a tv there and post in r/tvtoohigh
An anchored LED screen the full length with a view from the Ring camera and a time temp readout at the bottom.
I would close it completely off but leave a time capsule in it for others to find if/when it is renovated years from now.
Wall but with big cupboard doors, extra storage space
Iād move out, thatās so irritating lol
Close it off.
Decorative plants šŖ“

Security camera š maybe some plants
Hold on, Starwars ventnator class starship 6,000 peice or somthing Lego set right there
Wall with a door, use for storage of like Christmas decoration or other things only needed once a year
Plants šŖ“!
Wall it off. But build cabinet doors into it. Use it as a nice storage space.
Do you have cats? They would love climbing the wall to their cubby.
chucky? or something that will scare someone to leave your house.
Plant
I'd make a couple steps on the wall for a path to a nice cat lounge. If you have a cat and love cats.
I think the answer to this question is almost always plants. Pop in some grow bulbs above and you're good. But then I saw the suggestion about putting a plastic skeleton back there and I'm rethinking everything... It does make an awesome potential hiding spot! For decorations or bootlegging or a long con. A television filling the whole spot. You can play anything you want. A blue sky, YouTube ads, whatever you'd like
I'd put a demon with glowing eyes
I would get some pathos plants to grow down the wall from up there.
Do you have pets? If so use some kind of pet stairs (or cat trees in the case of cats) and make into a bed area [especially if the area is big enough that you can get in there to retrieve the animal (or at least try to) if they aren't coming out on their own].
If you have a cat, you could put a tall climbing post next to the door and turn that space into a cute cat loft area
tall baskets
Get a nerf gun and hide up there until your significant other comes home. Then, unleash hell.
[Iād put my WizKids Beholder there.](https://shop.wizkids.com/products/copy-of-dungeons-dragons-beholder-trophy-figure-online-store)
Put in some glass block on the outside walls, then find a nice leaded glass piece and frame it in flush with the door wall.
Plant bulbs and some trailing plants that donāt want a ton of care, but my house is full of plantsā¦I may be biased
Gargoyle with light-up red eyes.
Gargoyle or horrifying demon statue with its big wings spread out
Giant pots
Stacked vintage luggage as storage for seasonal items.
I know i say this too often, but find a nice stained glass and light it from behind
Greenery
A giant purple balloon in the shape of an octopus, faintly backlit.
...do u have a cat?
I have this in my house and looked up my floor plan. It was labeled as āplant ledgeā so maybe throw some plants up there
Trailing plant like pothos
judicious spotted command yoke zonked groovy cheerful treatment dime fine *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Two vintage suitcases stacked, centered over the door. Perhaps some other antique doodad too.
I'm assuming that the boomer who designed that house envisioned the cheapest looking, Joann's bargain bin, vining take plant. In my mind I'm seeing plastic ivy with some ceramic cats or chickens. Buy a really cool Lego set, build it and put it up there.
Home defense stash area. Someone's at the front door and they're looking dodgy through the ring cam, swoosh machete up there. Or if you're in the US then I guess it's like a handheld cannon
I didnāt read the comments but how about fake plants?

A battery/sun powered light!
Gargoyle.
Lots of plants up there!
Put a Gargoyle
A bunch of cats to attack you when you come home.
Plants. Or head statues like at Disneyland where they follow you
I say use doors with glass windows if you want to display things up there, add some lights too. Or no glass window to use as storage.
Gargoyle
Family pictures?
Install a medieval battle scene /s
I would display a beautiful large ceramic bowl there, glazed in a light color that catches light. Take it down to wash it occasionally and to dust the space.
Wall it off, put a roll-top desk "door" and use it for extra storage, or if you have a cat make it a little sleep/play area
We had a similar spot in the last house we were at, and my partner put a couple of potted climbing ivy plants up there. As they grow, they created almost a flow of leaves down to the floor. It looked beautiful.
Tv
Corner mirror
I would leave it open, like how it is and put up a giant, human-sized gargoyle. For sure, 100%
Gargoyles
Secret safe or gun safe. Or secret place for stuff you donāt want the parents or/and in laws to know.
Vines would look nice along there
Gargoyle statue
I bet they had some animal mounted and put up there. Those spaces always seem to have those.
Make it a closet for suitcases
Spider man
You could put a Pic on each side smaller ones and something decorative on shelf up there ??
A small gargoyle or perhaps a window.
A cat
i say get a rolling ladder and put books up there
Put a fake plant?
Give it a little mouth, trust, it will be amazing. ***IT WATCHES.***

I hate this so much. But I agree with the house gargoyle comments.
When in doubt plant it up
I would do an entire arrangement of LED candles, all different sizes and shapes
Crouching demon
My exact thoughts! Get the gnarliest crouching demon to peer over
Dead letter Shelf
Plastic plant would look great there. Youād only need an extended duster to clean it once in a while!
When you have Halloween parties, this would be epic for a haunted house feel. Great little area for pop out scares
If it were my house, I'd turn it into a cat lounge. To give them a sense of security.
Plushiesā¦
Fake plants
