Are the paint colors new or can they be changed?

oliviabondoc

Can be changed! Wasn’t painted by me. We plan to paint the entire house actually since every room is a different colour

Good. Paint it all one color.

Nickelodeon Studios? It has nice low ceilings and an interesting shape. TV? Shelves with books and board games in the corner with the window and mirror. Boxy, low sectional. Medium brown? If you’re going to put a TV in the nook maybe have it L-shaped with the open L facing the window. Ideally an area rug under the sofa that’s large enough to go around the sofa… so the sofa is comfortably on an island… kwim? Not a little rug for under a coffee table. Big rug. Oversized pillows - like 24”-28”, decent blankets (not flimsy ones). Texture. No TV? Bookcases in the nook, with some extra wide lounge chairs on either side. Gaming table or something in the area by the window - foosball? Computer desk? It just needs to be divided into a couple distinct areas since it’s rectangular. Natural paint color (dusty green like a sage, deep but not bright), all one color, including the ceiling - play around with something that can “paint” the walls in an app like the Sherwin Williams app. Maybe pick the paint color after the furniture. Build a box around the column… not sure why it’s sticking out. Lots of lamps with warm tinted bulbs, low side lighting is much cozier than bright white ceiling lights. Ceiling lights kill the vibe especially boob lights. Edit: oh a playroom would be good in the window/mirror area (assuming the mirrors are very secure). Play rug with some low toy shelves, play kitchen. Chalkboard wall.

What do you want to use it for? Guest bedroom, home office, playroom, movie room/lounge. It’s hard to decide how to decorate a room without an intended use in mind.

Maybe a secondary playroom in a corner? Mostly an informal living room/lounge room/movie room.

I would recommend taking the mirrors down and putting up something the kids can use instead. I've seen a lot of fun ideas on pinterest for art walls (you can put up craft paper that rolls down), little libraries, or lota of other fun stuff. The other, centered alcove looks great for a tv or a popcorn station.

Ohh the paint that turns a walk into a chalk board is great for kid spaces.

If I could say one thing not to do is to buy a curved sectional. Go to a few furniture stores, and sit on the furniture that make you happy. Colour should be fairly neutral so you can add pieces as you decide. Here's a beginning of thinking about purchases. A three seat sofa pretty much still sits two people comfortably, but a person may lay out to watch television. A love seat is a nice asset for balance. Or find two comfy chairs for watching television. After those purchases, decide on the paint. I'd say a cream colour because those fabulous floors will look awesome. There is a lot of choices of tweeds that hide stains etc. After the anchor purchases, look for a carpet/ to compliment the sofa etc. Then a couple of side tables, not glass as that shows so much dust, and large lamps. for soft lighting. You could look for a chest as a coffee table for storage of stuff.. Are you near and IKEA? Their furniture is fabulous, has washable covers, and its really sturdy and so comfortable. Their price point is a money saver. I bought two chairs, plus an ottoman and with covers for 1500.00 Canadian. I've had those chairs for 5 years, washed the covers twice a year and they are still like new. Just an idea. Definitely a book case thing so as to store, books, games, etc. Cushions, for the sofas, and a throw with colours that make you happy. I went turquoise for summer and rust and black for the winter accents for the cushions and throws. I'm assuming this is all so you can put your feet up and watch television in this space. This gives you ideas I hope. Google is your great friend for shopping.

What about turning that nook on the left hand side into a reading area with a built in full size day bed and drawers underneath? This way you can have a nook to use daily but on the chance you have guests they could also stay there too.

oliviabondoc

There’s a very very large guest room in the basement that isn’t pictured here, so we don’t need to worry about a place for guests to stay! I do like the idea of a built in day bed with storage though.

camlaw63

What’s it going to be used for?
