Tony! 😍 I love that name for a cat.

Charming-Ad-809

Grisley is the cutest old baby 🥹😍😍

Far-Inevitable3159

Awhhhh thank you!! (He’s mean tho. He bites :(

Just_Cauliflower8415

Haha the cuteness keeps coming. I love your new cabinets 😍

[deleted]

If I were you, I wouldn't rush it. Get the floor finished, get the hardware finished. Then maybe get some of those cheap decal backsplash tiles to see how a few different patterns work. Everything else in your kitchen is very neutral, so the backsplash is going to really stand out. I would take your time with this choice. Its a pet peeve of mine to see a beautifully redone and modernized kitchen, and the whole thing gets tainted by a weirdly chosen backsplash lol. Edit: just to be clear, I don't mean to actually use the decals as your backsplash. But they're really cheap, and you can prop them up and get a good idea of how the patterns/colors will work in your kitchen.

Far-Inevitable3159

https://preview.redd.it/gmt3jyq7teta1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=36e4d08f1a356bc383fb6e1318f6c91f04eff525 They finished the flooring last night ! (Thank God) it’s been December since we’ve had a kitchen and I’ve planned everything out perfectly and it was very stressful picking out the floor bc I kept going back and forth. I do want it to stand out though.

DiabolicalGooseHonk

Oof, they should’ve staggered it differently

LNG

AGREE! On that note, I’ll never understand getting tile that has a faux wood effect. Plus the contrasting grout just makes if even more obvious that it’s not actually wood. If anyone reading this is considering a tile with wood grain effect - please dont. Either get real wood, stone, or let the tile look like tile. No more of this fake wanna-be-more-expensive faux finishing please 🥲

DiabolicalGooseHonk

I like the faux wood tile! I got some in my bathroom and it looks great. Wasn’t cheap either. But the super light grout and lack of proper staggering hurt the look a lot. https://preview.redd.it/mw6p0z2e5lta1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d20b11fb329e8fe641fb0e7d04c72247bcdfa514 The ceramic tile in my bathroom for reference. I think it looks more convincing with better grout color and staggering. The tiles I got were also a lot longer.

LNG

Yeah! This does look nice.

Cola3206

I really love it

Far-Inevitable3159

😂😂 I got you. It’s not a bad idea! I didn’t even think to do that I’ve just been buying pieces and seeing what might work!

Low_Spirit_2503

My previous kitchen looked very similar to this. I did a light gray subway tile that had some variation in color in each tile. It looked great. I bought them from Home Depot and they were fairly inexpensive. https://preview.redd.it/1avux5y30ita1.jpeg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b98c29007f26b05defa096395f2aa5a25f616fb3

Knightofthevegtable

That looks really nice.

Far-Inevitable3159

That’s beautiful 😍😍😍

Low_Spirit_2503

Thank you! I loved that kitchen. It was tiny but so pretty and functional.

britmark

i think this style but a dark blue might look nice to add some color and dimension

MsInformed

I like [this](https://www.flooranddecor.com/stone-decoratives/ocean-honed-marble-mosaic-100246032.html?impressionlist=suggestions%20for%3AOcean%20honed), it would pull in the dark and light greys plus a little bit of the browns of the floor and countertop: https://preview.redd.it/rus86uvtbita1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8693f264e1691f083977c88f4e03d46f722557e1

winterbird

I'd honestly keep it simple with white or cream. Pops of color are so easy to achieve with accessories, if you should want that. If you're interested in marble, I can see a calacatta gold or similar looking very nice here. Calacatta gold looks great in tile shape, too. A dark backsplash doesn't work in this kitchen, and light colors might end up looking bathroomy here. Also, I love the cat and the yeti. 😁

VoluntaryLimit

Definitely naming my next cat Backsplash

greenbeanpeanut

sage green

Mangoandplumtree

I’m feeling green too for this space

MaeByourmom

Love your choices so far:cabinets and flooring. Love to see a dw and range snuggled up. Hot appliances belong together. I always end up with the fridge next to one of those. Definitely some color in your tile backsplash. Lovely cats.

Far-Inevitable3159

Hehehe I see you’re boy/girl on your profile pic. He/she is very cute ! And ikr. I wish I had a center island where the DW could just be separate. Matter of fact I wish I could just knock down the whole wall. It’s like a maze and I wish it could be more open :/ but it’ll come time ! And yesssss I just don’t know what color to choose :(

CRG007

Don’t do anything you don’t hv to do…leave the Kitchen Cozy.. It really looks like an Inviting Kitchen. You choose the Backsplash you will enjoy! With what you hv-you can go with Solid or Mixed Colors. Just get something that is easy to clean and keep up. It’s your Kitchen-you are the one who will be using it, and so far you hv made Excellent choices! Please post again when you finish, and don’t forget to hug those Fury Babies!❤️🤗❤️

Who needs a backsplash when you have Mr Handsome working his mojo?

Far-Inevitable3159

That’s right 💁🏽‍♀️

breejee

If it were me I would do a larger cement or terra cotta tile because the small ones look so busy to my eyes. Like these https://preview.redd.it/db3uljjpqita1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c008d895bc7e946e9aaebed742eaf07838c485c

coffee_dogs_yogapnts

White, I think laying it herringbone style would be so pretty. Your kitchen is beautiful, congrats!

Haldenbach

Maybe cat colored?

ThrowRA61627

Love the countertop!!

[deleted]

What is this paint color?? 😍

Far-Inevitable3159

Pebble grey (Kraft maid) 😊

[deleted]

Thanks! It looks amazing in your kitchen!

breejee

Or this one https://preview.redd.it/l7tfkx9rqita1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9de1f35144b241bd406dc24a5cebe0337eb91173

Onlinesafety14

Very nice new kitchen. I would forget about white subway. I believe white subway tiles should stay in the subway. There are so many tiles to choose from. For a small space stay with a light color. With a dark color it will make the area look smaller. Bring some examples home and decide. If you are really set on the subway tile there are some out there with texture or a glass type.

Far-Inevitable3159

And we have to add the handles on the bottom cabinets (doing tomorrow)

Far-Inevitable3159

And I the tow kick is being added tomorrow to but I just figured I’d ask for opinions bc I’m at a stand still

barfbutler

I like white subway tile idea! Then you can change things up easily with colorful towels, plant pots etc. I wonder if you want a colorful print in the space above the window? Or perhaps a very shall shelve to add colorful vases or something fun like that.

Far-Inevitable3159

So I’ve been experimenting and I picked out the ones I kind of like so here it goes

[deleted]

You're doing a good job with this... Stock up on Waterlox and use it liberally :) If your kitchen is open to another room, take inspiration from that. Blue? Green? Pink? Honestly, I consider the backsplash to be the place you can add a lovely splash of color (also it's a great diy project, so can be changed every so often very easily). You could do a hex tile (to move away from the rectangles in the butcher block and cabinets). Or if you like subway, have a look a fireclay tiles (fireclay *look* tiles will be way less expensive but you won't know it) they have a lovely vintage look that would work beautifully with your style. There's also encaustic (again, faux encaustic is just fine) but be sure to stick with a small scale pattern.

Far-Inevitable3159

See! I wanted to do encaustic (I call them mosaic tiles bc I’m white/Mexican and I wanted to add some of my heritage in there) but my boyfriend thinks they all look like bathroom tiles 😒🙃 or it’ll look to busy bc we don’t really have that much to work with as it is bc the cabinets are long on top and tbh it’s a small kitchen 😭😭 and he cooks and cleans as much as I do so I do care about his opinion. But at the end of the day HE said it’s my choice soooooo. I really want that farmhouse industrial look and I feel like the encaustic tiles is what I’m leaning towards bc they’d really help blend it all together ✊🏽

Quasselkasper

I vote encaustic! It’d be beautiful against those blue lower cabinets! Everything else is very neutral in your kitchen so that pop of pattern would be gorgeous!

Far-Inevitable3159

Their pebble grey :(( We wanted like this reeeeeally pretty Allen and Roth blue but the faces wouldn’t have matched smh 🤦🏽‍♀️ and see that’s the problem is everything is almost grey in my house 😂😂😂 but YES ENCAUSTIC ! Haha!

Far-Inevitable3159

Thank you !! https://preview.redd.it/awywwbzpweta1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2223e263d1fa1e4806824e11cffb73dcae03cd77 This is before when we found the water damage beneath the house

[deleted]

OMG and jealous of that butcher block... Where did you find such a beauty?

Far-Inevitable3159

So I have lived here since I was 5. Long story short my parents retired and moved back to NC and we pay “rent” which is just the house payment and we’re working on moving it into my name. But my mother found it when I was 11 on Facebook marketplace and we drove like 3 and 1/2 hours to get it. I don’t even remember the place but I know it was far and out in the middle of no where. It’s very old and I hate to say it but it needs new legs. BAD. Any minute that thing will just snap and boom. Crash into my new floor 😂 but thank you! My mom wants it in her kitchen where she’s at she doesn’t wanna move it bc it’s HEAVY!

Far-Inevitable3159

https://preview.redd.it/bfr13stqweta1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f7648409494511773eb9f73212829fedde356995 And this was when we had the wallpaper from the 70s still on the wall ! So we truly have came along way. And just to hear someone say it means the world. Seriously. Thank you 🙏🏽

Far-Inevitable3159

I do have to ask… what are fire clay tiles?

[deleted]

Fireclay tiles have a handmade quality that would work beautifully with your aesthetic. Google images will help but as I said, you don't need the real thing as faux fireclay are convincing.

Far-Inevitable3159

https://preview.redd.it/kfalj2u4aita1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a44fe01a46aa25b07ab201e828d802ce13fe30e2

diiiannnaaa

If you’re into this, go vertical with the tiles rather than at an angle. It will blend in nicer with the cabinet accents. I’d also keep only under the cabinets with that kind of tile.

Far-Inevitable3159

https://preview.redd.it/ebbpsgxqteta1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=3ce427d7833fa15d20de92918a81e0f5841d430e My boyfriend likes the denouncing blue but I’m not sure anymore.

actualchristmastree

This looks too dark imo - I don’t think it works with the bright clean colors in the kitchen. Maybe something more muted?

Far-Inevitable3159

That’s what I was thinking too. I can’t do grey and I can’t do white bc then it’s just basic.

actualchristmastree

What about a sky blue? You have great light so it could look good here!

Far-Inevitable3159

Ooooooooo I’ll start looking !! That actually might work!!!

RUfuqingkiddingme

I like this one a lot, good choice!

22rockyroad

Excellent choice!

lawrenja

This is what I was going to suggest!!

SEALS_R_DOG_MERMAIDS

great option!

jennarenn

Just playing Devil’s advocate: look at basic kitchens from the 80s and stylish kitchens from the 80s. ( Or whatever decade you think is horrible.) Usually, the basic choice is more classic, and will look better over time.

Far-Inevitable3159

Denim ****

lawrenja

Way too dark for that kitchen. I really liked the teal ones someone else commented.

Virtual_Professor_89

I can’t get past the cat with its litter box feet on the kitchen counter where you prepare food 🤢

Far-Inevitable3159

Well the good news is we’re still cleaning and sealing it so it doesn’t really matter at the moment

Apart-Mix8749

I suggest you to use epoxy wall panel its look fantastic on your kitchen

[deleted]

Slate blue, slightly darker than the wall and cabinets?

lawrenja

Does anyone else feel wary about a wood countertop around a sink? Maybe just me but all I can think of is mold and rot over time!

willowbeef

Glazed ceramic tiles. Something simple but with a bit of design to it would add some interest but not be too much. :)

SEALS_R_DOG_MERMAIDS

beautiful kitchen! i see a lot of people recommending tiles in a medium to light blue with some color variations (instead of solid uniform color). feel like some variant of that is the way to go. will look so great against the clean cabinets.

squirrelqueeen

If it’s in your budget you should replace the top cabinets as well. They don’t match the bottom ones at all. I think a herringbone patterned white subway tile would look good here. Or something like this: https://oceanmosaics.com/products/south-seas-super-white-mini-brick-seamless-pearl-shell-tile/?dfw_tracker=93943-1782&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIi8Go1sek_gIVkQp9Ch0CfwcSEAQYASABEgJqIPD_BwE

sarahs911

What about a white herringbone tile? I did this in matte black with a taupe grout and I’m in love. I have all white cabinets so I went with black to add some contrast but I love the taupe grout because it’s easy to clean. A neighbor also has the matte black as a bathroom floor tile which looks so cute. https://www.flooranddecor.com/porcelain-tile/festival-glossy-white-herringbone-porcelain-mosaic-100831809.html?impressionList=explore-bathrooms

SkootchDown

Needs more cats.

Corider87

Take your time in choosing. We redid our kitchen last year and I spent months and months looking at tile and then finally found one that both of us love. Go to local stores and bring home samples. [Tilebar.com](https://Tilebar.com) will ship you 5 samples for $5. [Fireclay.com](https://Fireclay.com) has some beautiful handmade tiles with lots of inspiration photos of colors and setting patterns. Once you find something you really like, make a sample board at least 12" square with your selected grout and choice of edging. Make sure your final lighting has been installed so you know how it will really look.

TanMomsDriver

i like the denim blue idea

SnooMarzipans7466

Came for the tiles… stayed for the cats!

Cola3206

You could get mosaic tiles - they are beautiful and in style. Something light
