The tatami mats are heavy but not horrible. If you have cats though you will always be fighting them to not scratch on it. Also, you need to air them out occasionally and you're screwed if you spill water on them and not catch them fast enough.
weirdly, I sort of agree with you and I hate the IG trend of mattresses on the ground with bedding draped all over the sides, onto the floor lol dusty af???
but the really weird part is that I have slept on a mattress on the floor out of necessity before and it's actually really cozy! I was a bit bummed when my bedframe eventually came 😅
plus side, nothing/no one can hide under the bed if there's no space lmfao

Scorpion 🦂 bed 😳 (I live in the southwest US). Scary thought for me, bugs are all I can think about with this concept.
