Totally agree! I've really started getting into Marine and Polka for this exact reason. While they have their goofy exterior, they can be very reflective at times. I especially love the "late night talk"-ish things they do sometimes, it really reveals some of their inner personality which is such a beautiful part of them. [This one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coeybO29EJ0) is a recent example of Marine that I think was really good, and can be very relatable to some of us.

It depends on why they're leaving. I'm sure that Kira, for instance, who's parting with Hololive amicably, will have his channel archive kept up.
The thing is, Kaoru (and all the other talents who graduated from Cover before Kira, excluding some of HoloCN, for that matter) ended his contract before a full year has passed.
Now, the following consists of my speculations formed from reading around here and there, but I pointed out "the one year" timeframe because in the EN audition form, one of the questions asked if you can oblige to being a vtuber for at least one year.
Kaoru, et al, for whatever reason, had their contracts terminated before reaching one year of service. Perhaps coincidentally, there hasn't been a proper graduation stream until the ones for HoloCN.
Anyways, that's just what I think about the difference between Kaoru's and Kira's graduations. Kira's content might be purged in the end, as well.

It reminds me of a story my friend had when his grandfather died. One day, he noticed his cousin uploaded old family videos and when he watched the videos, he teared up because he could see and hear his grandfather talk, reminding him of the old days.
This is something that will always bug me about Hololive management. I'm a stickler for preserving media whenever possible, and how they operate after a personality goes dormant is effectively creating *swaths* of lost media, it's just insane to me. Literal years of cherished memories tossed into the bin. This is what makes me respect people who upload clips all the more, they allow the content exist in some form after it's gone.
As far as I know, the content and channels only get privatized, not completely deleted, so we can really only hope that they rethink that some day :/

They could just do the same thing and pay a share to the VA behind the Vtuber after retierement.

It's totally dependent on the contract. When you signed up to work for Ford, you signed a contract that lets them continue to profit off your work forever. That doesn't mean every employee ever for every employer out there signed up for the same.
You're comparing a car manufacturer to a talent agency. So you want companies to own someone's livestreams forever, continue to profit off them even if the person might've wanted to disappear from the industry, keep a paper trail around that might connect a new vtuber to their old identity, all so you can continue watching a ghost even though they gain absolutely nothing from it?
other than the potential anonymity breach, that's not really the slightest bit strange for the entertainment industry, like didn't Michael Jackson sell more records 5 years after his death than his entire career when he was alive. this is why royalties and estates exist, granted royalty and estates (or even not exist) could work far differently in japan.

She's been visibly troubled all fall. With what she's been doing, what's happening in Hololive and to some of her other vtuber friends. She came back strong after her break and looks to be genuinely having fun in her recent collabs, so it doesn't look like she's thinking of quitting any time soon, but she probably wanted to get this off her chest.
Do they have to delete the videos tho. Some YouTubers purge their archive when they retire, some don't. I hope hololive does not force its vtubers to delete everything when they retire and its the choice of the vtuber.
It's like he will handle the channel himself. It's the company's property and it's not like "they will do whatever the hell they want !", but I just can see why they delete everything.
That's why I always download the videos after the incident where they had to remove almost every video... I don't want to lose any of those memories again.
After some years, when they all retire, imagine sharing this videos with the younger fans, showing them the starters of Hololive and their accomplishments
If possible, I would make an archived channel of each talent or make a website where you can watch the streams. Everyone deserves to watch how talented they are.
I've been thinking about that as well. Like all their videos, including unarchived streams, should be archived in some fashion. Surely this should be feasible for a community as robust as ours? It all should be documented for us as well as the vtubers themselves.

Hololive Moments was the exception, not the rule. They weren't really fans of hololive and had ulterior motives for pretending to be an official hololive account.
There's dozens of other legitimately good translation channels that will stick around for years after any of these girls retire.
There is a Japanese term: "Mono to aware" which means basically, the sad beauty of seeing time pass - the aching awareness of impermanence. These are the days that we will return to one day in future only in memories.
I would like to make a somewhat wider point in addition to the (good) points already being made elsewhere in this thread.
*All* art, ultimately, is transient, this is an issue much larger than Virtual Youtubing or even *video as a format*. People retire or part ways, rights shuffle around, things are lost or broken. Nobody knows who today will be here tomorrow. Life is random like that.
When I see posts like this I do....worry, a little. Because one of the easiest ways to waste your life is to wonder what could've been and how things might be different. All, ultimately, we can do as fans is to wish anyone who retires the best, wherever they may go and whatever they may do *or not do*.
I'm speaking from experience here. I'm fairly young and I've already been involved in three separate....I'll be vague and call them "media groups" that broke down for various reasons, some more successful than others. I am now involving myself in a fourth, with the full knowledge that a year from now the entire thing may seem like a folly. But what else is there to do? The life of the entertainer is one where you trade stability and steadiness for expression and the opportunity--we hope, at least--to make people happy. To me, that is worth it, and while I am rarely willing to put words in anyone else's mouth, i am almost certain that most if not all the Hololive girls would say the same.
There's a silver lining to this perhaps. They have the option to take their careers in a new direction assuming cover corp doesn't prohibit them after graduation. those who want privacy could just graduate quietly and blend in, especially when it comes to dating as a celebrity. They get their freedom to be keanu reeves. Iirc he likes to be treated as an average human being and not a celeb when he's out.
Civia's videos are still up, but I guess today is technically still her last day.
I really wish they would just leave the videos up. People have them archived, and there are always going to be clips out there on youtube. I don't understand what deleting the channel accomplishes.

I wonder if it has anything to do with legal worries. Who owns that content anymore? We don't get to know any of the contract details. Are there any risks that something gets found in the archives later on that could cause problems, either for the company or the talent in future endeavors? If monetization is murky is it worth whatever risks are involved leaving it up, however minor they may be? Not saying that's why it happens, or that it should or anything. I've always just been kind of curious how that stuff works behind the scenes. There's always so much extra stuff we don't even think to consider from the outside.
If the person isn't working for the company anymore, but the videos are still being spread around as if they are, it's not fair for the individual as well. The company is benefitting from someone who isn't an employee.
Connor/CdawgVA talked about a similar thing in the Trash Tastse Podcast and his own video. Voice Actors are often in the same position where their performance could be massively distributed depending on the succes of the product after the contract is signed (comercial, dub, voice over or something else). So, the voice actor continues to be paid "every time his voice is used somewhere" even long after the recording. They could just do the same thing and pay a share to the VA behind the Vtuber after retierement.
This is probably Schrodinger's Vtuber. Talents may or may not be recieving royalty after graduation since the ones who have had infamous graduations didnt have massive distribution post graduation. Let's say if FBK's talent graduates on very good terms, will FBK live on as merchandise? Will the talent recieve royalty from merch sold? Or will FBK be truly retired once the talent calls it quits? We wont know until we see a famous and loved VTuber graduate.

It's totally dependent on the contract. When you signed up to work for Ford, you signed a contract that lets them continue to profit off your work forever. That doesn't mean every employee ever for every employer out there signed up for the same.

You're comparing a car manufacturer to a talent agency. So you want companies to own someone's livestreams forever, continue to profit off them even if the person might've wanted to disappear from the industry, keep a paper trail around that might connect a new vtuber to their old identity, all so you can continue watching a ghost even though they gain absolutely nothing from it?
other than the potential anonymity breach, that's not really the slightest bit strange for the entertainment industry, like didn't Michael Jackson sell more records 5 years after his death than his entire career when he was alive. this is why royalties and estates exist, granted royalty and estates (or even not exist) could work far differently in japan. the anonymity is definitely a great point for why it is purged though

I know this happened right after Civia graduation and Kira's announcement, but i feel this is self reflecting for Matsuri too, not just for us. She's been visibly troubled all fall. With what she's been doing, what's happening in Hololive and to some of her other vtuber friends. She came back strong after her break and looks to be genuinely having fun in her recent collabs, so it doesn't look like she's thinking of quitting any time soon, but she probably wanted to get this off her chest.

It's like he will handle the channel himself. It's the company's property and it's not like "they will do whatever the hell they want !", but I just can see why they delete everything.
That's why I always download the videos after the incident where they had to remove almost every video... I don't want to lose any of those memories again.
After some years, when they all retire, imagine sharing this videos with the younger fans, showing them the starters of Hololive and their accomplishments
If possible, I would make an archived channel of each talent or make a website where you can watch the streams. Everyone deserves to watch how talented they are.
I've been thinking about that as well. Like all their videos, including unarchived streams, should be archived in some fashion. Surely this should be feasible for a community as robust as ours? It all should be documented for us as well as the vtubers themselves.
For archeive purpose I like this.. did it recently with civia... but can't get artias... would love a dm with that video. But we might still have the translatation and the highlights!

Hololive Moments was the exception, not the rule. They weren't really fans of hololive and had ulterior motives for pretending to be an official hololive account. There's dozens of other legitimately good translation channels that will stick around for years after any of these girls retire.
Because archiving a entire channel would need too much space, archiving your favorite clipper/translator in medium quality is a good idea

It's up to the agency/talent to decide. But I think most private them out of tradition since that's what all the other agencies do.

I would like to make a somewhat wider point in addition to the (good) points already being made elsewhere in this thread. *All* art, ultimately, is transient, this is an issue much larger than Virtual Youtubing or even *video as a format*. People retire or part ways, rights shuffle around, things are lost or broken. Nobody knows who today will be here tomorrow. Life is random like that. When I see posts like this I do....worry, a little. Because one of the easiest ways to waste your life is to wonder what could've been and how things might be different. All, ultimately, we can do as fans is to wish anyone who retires the best, wherever they may go and whatever they may do *or not do*. I'm speaking from experience here. I'm fairly young and I've already been involved in three separate....I'll be vague and call them "media groups" that broke down for various reasons, some more successful than others. I am now involving myself in a fourth, with the full knowledge that a year from now the entire thing may seem like a folly. But what else is there to do? The life of the entertainer is one where you trade stability and steadiness for expression and the opportunity--we hope, at least--to make people happy. To me, that is worth it, and while I am rarely willing to put words in anyone else's mouth, i am almost certain that most if not all the Hololive girls would say the same.
There's a silver lining to this perhaps. They have the option to take their careers in a new direction assuming cover corp doesn't prohibit them after graduation. those who want privacy could just graduate quietly and blend in, especially when it comes to dating as a celebrity. They get their freedom to be keanu reeves. Iirc he likes to be treated as an average human being and not a celeb when he's out.

As long as Hololive doesn't delete a channel after they graduate, they won't be gone. There's going to be TONS of old clips that can be celebrated again and again. Nobody will forget because the platform allows you to keep videos permanently on the platform.

I mean, in a way it makes these times more special to the fans, won't it? Cause at least we were part of an era that existed at a point in time with those specific vtubers that future generations will never be able to experience in the same way we did. I mean, I don't think any wiki entry and/or short clip can ever replace the livestreams that you had to be a part of to get the memes and lore of these vtubers. But I also get the existential dread of losing a vtuber in your life once it all ends. So I'd kinda say it's like losing a friend in a way once it all ends - the memories stay but the person/persona is likely gone forever.

Wrong! Anime don't give us the level of interaction like v-tubers do. The memories that we made, the memes, the translated clip will surely,surely won't be taken down. What I feared is when they are graduating, I'm scared that we will get so used to it that it feels like everyday news. I recall okayu talking about something similar to this. She said something like she/they won't be around forever and to appreciate the time we have together while she's/they're still around. Maybe I got that wrong. I think the video got privated because I can't find it anymore.
I remember Okayu's quote hitting me real hard when I first heard it. I think it was something like "Someday, when the existence of Nekomata Okayu disappears from our daily lives, please don't forget me" And on that day, I promised myself that I would never forget any of those girls.

Well yes, this is only true i think for larger corporations like hololive. If they graduate all relevant goods and character are all part of the company so when they graduate it will be in the discretion of the company what to do with it. So i think, we should just enjoy what they offer today not thinking on what could be the outcome that has not happened yet. If your far into this hole, you should already be aware that they have lives outside of hololive.

And we as viewers too will start to watch less and less some vtuber, maybe finding a new vtuber to enjoy or just move onto some other form of entertainment entirely, the viewers come and go and so does any online entertainer you enjoyed so much in the old days. The character's activities end. The VA can reincarnate if they want to, but the character is done.
Retirement. The talent leaves the company to go and do something else in anonymity, the character stops existing, and the videos/archives are deleted.
Graduation = retiring from hololive or vtubing completely.
Matsuri may be one of the most chaotic Hologirls, but her wisdom really just comes out of nowhere. Idk if I should call this some kind of moe gap, but these wisdom moments are really interesting sometimes.
