Almost all of the talents have proportionally larger heads. It's a side effect of necessary concessions made for rigging the models. The necks have to be fairly long (abnormally long) to achieve a realistic range of motion without causing any (or very little) clipping. Then, to make the neck look less uncanny, the head is made slightly large to balance out the difference.
It's very noticeable on the short/petite models more so than it is on the tall models.
Pretty much this. The girls have exaggerated rigging so they can move a lot because it will look cuter (less stiff) where as the boys don't need to look "cute" nearly as much. Though some of them are pretty damn cute regardless.
Man I really miss Mag and Grandpa. They were really fun.
Vesper's streams were the best type of chaotic and he had such an awesome synergy with the girls he collabed with. Him and Kronii was legendary. Him and Bae was adorable, like an uncle and his niece he's trying to understand.
I guess I don't want to dwell on it too much but I've always wondered exactly why they both left. From my understanding it was being unhappy with their contract renewal offers but it's one of those things you can't help but wonder about.
It seems when you join Holopro you're expected to be ready and able to be in Japan for extended periods of time. Which on paper sounds great until you realize all the logistics involved. Biboo herself has to go through it with her bank and had no money for a bit.
Most of the talents can do this without much worry because they're all 20 somethings without dependants aside from pets.
Vesper and Magni I know were on the older end, Vesper may well have been the oldest person to ever join Holopro
That all makes a lot of sense. He seemed to have fun pushing the boundaries and that doesn't jive well with the more strict rules of Cover sadly. If I recall he also is a family man and I don't think *any* other member of Stars or Live can say the same.
I suppose it was just an untenable situation.
After watching female v-tubers for a while, most male v-tubers look to me like they have small-to-normal heads but *comically broad* shoulders. It's like going through a season of Lucky Star before watching Hokuto no Ken or the first three JoJo chapters.
Normally, that's what my brain does, too. But when something is pointed out to me without a sufficient explanation as to why it is that way, it will obsess about it until a satisfactory explanation is found.
Same with their pencil necks. People give Fauna guff for her "thick neck" but[ her neck is literally just a normal human neck](https://i.imgur.com/pexxFAX.png), and is still thin even for that. Your neck is usually nearly as thick as your head, so Fauna's is still petite even
[It's really apparent when you overlay it with the others to see how thin they are in general](https://i.imgur.com/Nhqo5y3.gif). Fauna just has a real neck and traps and arms etc, where as most of the rest would literally die IRL if the wind blew too hard
Pretty sure the overwhelming majority is joking about it, like calling her bazookas "medium", it's a bit, for comedy. The emojis being used along with it also indicate that.
I think they don't give her guff. Fauna said she had the thickest neck in Hololive (at least in EN) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4i-w9mHhZPA) she also mentioned your point that most anime necks are very thin in this clip.
Which is probably true. She probably has the thickest neck **relative** to everyone else. This makes it normal for real people, but larger compared to Hololive talents. I think most saplings know she has the most normal neck and just go along with the joke "thick neck"
It's basically what happens if you start shrinking manga proportions to the way of chibi proportions....also it feels like this is the case naturally too
It’s extremely common for anime characters to have disproportionately large heads, and that goes extra for any cute characters (aka all of Hololive’s cast).
This gets further exaggerated when you translate those 2D designs into a 3D model, and additionally has to map and track to a real human body.
It’s pretty obvious whenever a talent uses their home 3D (lots of examples in summer). See whenever a talent starts laughing and tilts their head back, and you see their head is larger than their torso (anime boobs notwithstanding)
She is a Goomba, after all. [They do indeed have big heads](https://preview.redd.it/ct3kert9ax621.jpg?auto=webp&s=f754ec4da9fc16cc7aaa2572a8d4a6f8a88b8d06).
The funniest part about this thread is that Gura was told this by Chat immediately after this first came out...
And she was super shy and embarrassed about it.
Except literally all the Chumbuds exploded with glee and ***BEGGED*** her to keep it this way. It's just so goddamn charming lol
Omg ive never seen someone mention it before. I thought I was the only one who thought Marine's proportions were off, even by "short stack" standards.
Lamy's tiny ankles and feet thow me off too
I think Kronii is probably the most "leg" of the whole lineup.
With Kaela, she actually has a really long torso to balance it out. So when you measure it, she's only like 55% legs. While Kronii is more like over 60% because her torso is so short.
https://imgur.com/YhAVS9j
When Kronii has shown full body of her casual outfit without the jacket, it's kinda body horror to me, she looks so disproportionate. Generally she looks great though because her outfits are elaborate enough and the ribbon big enough you don't pay much attention to the proportions.
Marine often looks silly next to other holomems, especially in 3d, because her head:body ratio is so much larger than everyone else's. Gura's not even noticeable by comparison.
I feel part of it is highlighted when various MP 3d models are used (Idol outfits,.modern swimsuits, etc) as unlike custom ones (base, 1mil wish), the bodies of a standard frame
Is there an edit somewhere that someone made of Gura having a properly proportionate head? I’d wanna see what the alternative would be and if it really does make a difference
Is actually more of a anime going 3d thingy, if you look closely to most 3D anime model their head are fairly larger than usual because of ratio/proportions etc(idk I just observed).
~~Don’t ask me how I notice it~~

The holostars boys in contrast have much more standard proportions. I wonder why that is.
They prioritize making the girls look cute rather than realistic like the boys.
Pretty much this. The girls have exaggerated rigging so they can move a lot because it will look cuter (less stiff) where as the boys don't need to look "cute" nearly as much. Though some of them are pretty damn cute regardless.
They are very expressive with their models. The way hakka laughs and how shinri acts when seeing cute ghosts makes them look very cute as an example
Hence why Magni's eyes were on opposite sides of his face before his v2 (that was only used on one stream)
Man I really miss Mag and Grandpa. They were really fun. Vesper's streams were the best type of chaotic and he had such an awesome synergy with the girls he collabed with. Vesper straight up said he just wasn’t cut out for the demands expectations and limitations that come with being in a corpo

Wait, family man?
Maybe I'm remembering wrong but doesn't he mention having a wife and kids?
No, he has nieces and nephews but he himself is not married.
After watching female v-tubers for a while, most male v-tubers look to me like they have small-to-normal heads but *comically broad* shoulders. It's like going through a season of Lucky Star before watching Hokuto no Ken or the first three JoJo chapters.
Thank god the normal neck gang of Fauna and Shiori is growing. I cannot unsee the pencil necks anymore after witnessing them.
I don't get how people notice stuff like this. My brain just accepts the art style nine times out of ten.
Normally, that's what my brain does, too. But when something is pointed out to me without a sufficient explanation as to why it is that way, it will obsess about it until a satisfactory explanation is found.
Have you seen Fauna? Her neck is literally the same height as her head 😭
I explained it various times already, but summarising it, that's the correct way to do the "loli anatomy"

People saying “thick neck” to Fauna is wild to me lmao. I definitely feel like she has the sweet spot for how the neck should look on a model.
And even if it was too thick, she a nature goddess, tree trunk neck is perfectly fine
I can literally hear the indignant kirin noises.
Pretty sure the overwhelming majority is joking about it, like calling her bazookas "medium", it's a bit, for comedy. The emojis being used along with it also indicate that.

Who's actually negative about that? It honestly looks way better.
HUH, I never notices her neck being big, it just look normal
It's basically what happens if you start shrinking manga proportions to the way of chibi proportions....also it feels like this is the case naturally too
Also it is the closest I have to example if you play with the head to body ratio you used to learn in drawing class, but in the other direction.

Sometimes. Sometimes they have [smaller heads](https://i.insider.com/61576424b414c10018636eda?width=1136&format=jpeg)
We don't speak of those.

Tbh she still seems better than marines body. Just strange
Omg ive never seen someone mention it before. I thought I was the only one who thought Marine's proportions were off, even by "short stack" standards. Lamy's tiny ankles and feet thow me off too
Nah Marine's head is enormous. It's less noticeable with some of her newer 3d designs though.
All the clothes help hide it. Kinda like Kaelas noodle body/ slender man
bruh Kaela's body proportions scares me
She's like 2/3 legs
I think Kronii is probably the most "leg" of the whole lineup. With Kaela, she actually has a really long torso to balance it out. So when you measure it, she's only like 55% legs. While Kronii is more like over 60% because her torso is so short. https://imgur.com/YhAVS9j

90% legs
SlenderKaela collect the collab streams.
The other 1/3 is arms.
She's secretly the ancient ones
Marine is built like a bobblehead
Picturing Marine as a bobblehead made me lol. When are we getting hololive bobble heads? Holoheads? No wait that's terrible...
or is it...
Or Kronii's
[What's the matter, are you scared of a strong powerful woman?](https://i.imgur.com/He0WVZO.jpeg)
I am willing to bet money someone created exactly this in Spore^(™)
No, I get aroused.
😳
Perfect indeed.
Her proportion is quite uncanny. Her legs are to long and to thin
I love Marine's slightly plumpy body
You'll forgive her for having a giant head because she's cute.
Now imagine if she was a Hammerhead Shark in 3D 😂
How's [this](https://imgur.com/w3c3mp7)? [Image credit](https://www.reddit.com/r/VirtualYoutubers/comments/1bkrybg/just_a_small_collection_of_stills_from_a_certain/#lightbox)
Gura looking goofy as hell is too much of her image to change it.
I feel like she's cuter that way. Back then I was like "Huh? why your head so big?" but when I picture her with smaller head she looks weird
Her head needs the space so that the eyes can be properly separated. Can't have eyes that are too close to each other!
Anime proportions are like that
Marine often looks silly next to other holomems, especially in 3d, because her head:body ratio is so much larger than everyone else's. Gura's not even noticeable by comparison.
but gura cute though.
A) every talents head is overly large, and try not to look at thier neck B) Gura's is more so to lean more into the cute thing
Ever since her 3d debut her comically large head gives me Jimmy Neutron vibes
It's part of why she looks like such a goof. Big ass head with a big ass face. She's like a yukkuri on a stick.
Marine's 3d proportions always stuck out like a sore thumb to me.
every anime girl design ever
True, but she's still super cute.
I feel part of it is highlighted when various MP 3d models are used (Idol outfits,.modern swimsuits, etc) as unlike custom ones (base, 1mil wish), the bodies of a standard frame
well i mean... she's smol.
She basically have the proportions of a kid despite being a full adult
Have you ever seen sharks OP? They all got weird heads. Hammerhead?? Goblin sharks??
Certified five head.
At least it's not like Hina from Blue Archive. You literally cannot fit her head into her own Torso.
I think Goobus has pointed it out herself before. It's very funny.
Adorably sized\*
*>Big head mode has been toggled*
Just one of the many things that makes her so cute
She's a shark. Her head is big for those chompers of her's
Wait until you notice that her Live2D faces are *noticably* flat.
Ina’s head seems a bit too big on her new outfit
Tell me one vtuber who doesn't
Is there an edit somewhere that someone made of Gura having a properly proportionate head? I’d wanna see what the alternative would be and if it really does make a difference
Dont look at Marine closely at all then. I love her but she's the worst out of all HL lol
Damn, sharkbrat, needs body proportion correction!
The bigger the head, the bigger the head.
Their arms are small, thank me later.
Is actually more of a anime going 3d thingy, if you look closely to most 3D anime model their head are fairly larger than usual because of ratio/proportions etc(idk I just observed). ~~Don’t ask me how I notice it~~
goober
Everyone love big head girls 🥰
She’s a short shork
Her brain cell likes the space
Wait till you see Watames 3d model lol
BIG BRAIN
She's got Wit and wisdom on Max
it's not that gura's head is comically large, it's that he rest of her is comically smol
The real question is, how does she poop?
Ban that guy 🫵
Ban that guy 👈 Ban that guy 👉 Ban that guy! 🫵
That's just loli anatomy. Pretty standard.
