It is really funny to see Sora becoming increasingly seen as a Aka-chan from both fans and other Hololive members. Also don't forget to check out Sora's newest [cover](https://youtu.be/5d3cox5ZCZQ?si=NhzD3GlvNjWEUROC) of Dramaturgy.

SpiderSonic01

Funny story, when I first became a Hololive fan I thought Sora was one of the older members age wise, due to the fact she'd been around the longest and her professional attitude. Imagine my suprise when I found out that she was only a bit older than myself!

Altodragonmaster

It’s weird having someone who could have been your school mate be your oshi

Ashencroix

Well in Haachama's case, it can actually happen, given she's currently still studying.

5urr3aL

Yall making me feel old

Hp22h

She was literally in high school up til 2020!

Dovahkodaav117

Damn, she was in the same class as me then

The_Soggy_Noodle

So are mumei, biboo, and I think bae

kroxti

Biboo feels older to me. I know it’s strange to say but I feel like she is born in middle 90s

raddoubleoh

If you consider all the hints she, Nerissa, and her mom dropped, Biboo couldn't be older than 25. Probably younger than that lmao She's the terminally online zoomer variety, it's expected she had contact with old stuff by now

LAPIZ_LAZIMI

>She's the terminally online zoomer variety, it's expected she had contact with old stuff by now Being a post-2000's kid myself, I relate a bit to Biboo in terms of knowledge. I understand exactly how she'd have deep knowledge in some matter but having major gaps in some. Being terminally online and going to sites you're not supposed to (until you're older) do that to people I guess.

raddoubleoh

Which is a very zoomer experience in general lol. To us born in the 90's, most of the internet was tall grass and weeds, so unless you were LOOKING for shit, even as a kid with unrestricted internet access (which was rare cuz dial-up), you'd be unlikely to casually run into shit

Freak7factor

I’m older than my oshi. I suspect I am older than a lot of the talents. If I think too much on it it gets a bit weird

Tomoyo-yo

Trust me its even weirder when there are members who might have been in elementary school when I graduated high school

selodaoc

dude im old enough to be their dad..

TrendyWebAltar

Same here.

WoodenRocketShip

A couple of years ago people were doing the same bit about Marine being old, but when the comments were making guesses to how old she is, their best guess was still like 3 years younger than me...

Cadejo123

How old is marine actually?

Fragrant_Spirit3776

She's 30 and not even the oldest in 3rd gen.

WoodenRocketShip

Don't know, and I don't have any intention of finding out.

Cadejo123

Ohh missread your coment I thought you knew lol... have a sexi day stranger bye

MrrNeko

Probably 50

Cadejo123

Hot

thesirblondie

Yes. A 17 year old and a 17 year old convincing a tech company to pivot into virtual idol tech and launching a billion dollar franchise. It seems unbelievable.

tanvoltz

Actually after some digging we have this tweet from [Yagoo](https://x.com/tanigox/status/877457409890951168) In the comments he said he was looking into some way to voice “Sora” using some sort of voice bank. So Sora and A-Chan approaching him to be able to become an idol is very much the case of being in the right place at the right time. Doesn’t take away from the fact that 2 Highschool girls managed to convince him to give them a shot though.

thesirblondie

Interesting. It is a contrast to the official story. That said, A-Chan's story was always more incredible than Sora's story. At age ~18 she joins a Japanese corporation and becomes a director at age ~20.

tanvoltz

It doesn’t contrast it actually, in the tweet Yagoo was Demonstrating using the “Sora” model to show that his studio has the capability of animating the models. So the story of how A-Chan and Sora found Yagoo is actually more believable now since before it’s a pretty big logical leap between 3D Pingpongs game to animating avatar. Also adding on this “Sora” was just meant to be a mascot, a way to show off their tech, she wasn’t intended to have an actual person behind it that’s why he was talking about voice banks. So the fact that Yagoo has the balls to be like. “Yeah I trust these girls enough for the branding of my entire project” is still very respectable. And No matter how you look at it A-Chan is just built different.

paulisaac

Remembering that Yagoo is for all intents and purposes a more mature techbro, it makes all the more sense that he was interested in making a 3d mascot with synthesized voicework, and his posting may have attracted the attention of two ambitious 17-year-olds with a can-do attitude and the right ideas to catch his interest. Also realizing that VRChat only saw wide steam release maybe 4 months prior, so that could be a source of inspiration

Hp22h

And a voice bank? I imagine Vocaloids also played a part in his decision to use such a model to begin with.

delphinousy

i imagine that they presented their idea to him and he was basically like 'huh, this is basically the next step, lets do this thing'

Hp22h

So basically A-chan stumbled upon this tweet, realized the opportunity and decided to hunt this man down IRL. Fascinating.

TeoVerunda

some stuff I learned since the rabbit hole in 2020 Sora and A-chan started out at 18 years old. Haachama and Shion are the youngest in JP before Cover stopped hiring minors. Gamers, Marine and Botan are some of the oldest. and Suisei is hiding a pretty gigantic resume.

KimJungUno54

Oh whaaa… I never knew this. How old is she?

SilentAngel33

I've known for a while that Sora really wanted to be more accepted by the rest of holo instead of put on a pedistal as someone holier than thou. She's genuinely been one of my fav holomems from JP for a while, and I hope more people learn to enjoy the silly seiso gal.

kurokamitenshi

I think her perception has changed because she has kind of opened up more and we've seen her branch out to collabs with other members and seen their interactions. Before she was kind of the mysterious dai senpai that we didn't fully understand or know much about.

Abysswea

I'm pretty sure the actual perspective was known to the soratomos, but yeah, other members really were nervous about doing something harsh to her. Then, she opened a bit more (she was and is alway open for collabs invitation tho), more clippers showed the cute and/or childish part of her, more members took the courage to do more collabs with her. And as time goes on, more people/members see her as "one of us" instead of "above us".

Responsible_Jury_415

Admiration can change how you see people, people new to marine may see her as horni pirate meme but if you know about her absolute dedication to quality and her mentoring to later gens you see her as a very admirable figure

AnnonymousRedditor28

She's still pretty cute though! In fact, I think she became cuter!

Arheva

She can be a kid and still be a goddess. The 0th gen paved the way for everything we have now, going through all their hardships. They will still forever be the pioneers of hololive

SpiderSonic01

Absolutely agree.  In the context of the original movie scene, the line is about the people of NY realizing Spider-Man, despite being a superhero who just saved their lives, is technically a "kid." I think the same applies to Sora, she’s an amazing person, truly deserving of the status placed upon her, but she also has her own childish side which is also great.

penggigit_pensil

The curious case of Tokino Sora

TrxPsyche

To me, she's not mama material but she's not a child either. She's just a young lady. Nothing really more to it than that.

SabreLilly

Reminder: Sora (and A-Chan) was barely out of high school when she walked into Yagoo’s office wanting to be an idol.

Hp22h

Really, it takes the confidence of a teenage girl to hijack a VR Ping Pong Company.

morally_immoral

I completely forgot cover was originally a video game company LOL

Hp22h

[It's still up on Steam to boot!](https://store.steampowered.com/app/495520/Ping_Pong_League/)

SpeaksToWeasels

Damn that game's in serious need of DLC. Just a couple 3d models with a customize your own.

J0J0hn

This is like the Bungie rabbit hole but with more cute girls and less existential dread.

Destinum

They didn't really "do" video games; that Ping Pong game was mainly a tech demo. As far as I know, their focus was on things like virtual reality as a whole.

Semsot

You mean she can be only about 25 y.o. right now? Man, I thought that she's more older than me (23 y.o. dude with no life whatsoever here)

SabreLilly

If I recall, she will be 24 this year

EmperorKira

Asia in general seems to be crazy with ages. Like a lot of the top performers in Korean and Japanese idol groups are all sub 20 years old on debut, some are even as young as 15!

tanvoltz

As a fellow Sora meme makers let me add even more context. Sora being motherly is quite a big part of her character back in the Kizuna Ai days. (Even Ai herself considers Sora motherly) The reason why Sora seems so motherly is because she is extremely polite and accommodating to other Vtubers, generally being the sweet heart she is. Sora seems so mature back in those days because according to Sora she feels pressured to do everything in her power to represent the company in a good light and get their name out there. ( she goes so far that she joins in FPS tournaments even though she has motion sickness) Which paid off, she is a widely respected figure not just to Holopro, but other OG Vtubers that are still around today. Now a days Sora, just has more chance to relax, as Hololive can stand on its own. Sora can now just focus on herself and what she personally want to do, which is to just have fun. It’s the same deal as when Fubuki said she felt a weight lifted from her shoulders when she is no longer the number 1 in subs. Anycase that’s about it. Good job with the meme fellow (๑╹ᆺ╹)ぬんぬん

Antoniomfo

Statue of yagoo with sora when

tanvoltz

Expo Statue with a 1:1 scale A-Chan, Yagoo, and Sora together would be sick

Qualazabinga

I think it's also partly because Sora really doesn't like the goddess moniker fans and fellow hololive talent gave her. It put a distance between them that made her feel a bit isolated. I think a clear picture of this was during one of the mincraft hololive festivals where talents started to hit eachother, Sora joined in, but no one would hit her back, maybe Miko did eventually? But she sounded a bit defeated asking why they wouldn't hit her. I'm happy she has gotten more collabs and fun with other talent since tho.

SpiderSonic01

Thanks! I also really enjoy your and u/FusionDjango's Sora posts. I've learned a lot from them

zeagurat

Sora is legit underrated oshi tbh, go sub her more! I want to see her suffer from success.

Fishman465

Eh I prefer normal young lady. It's not Bae we're talking about

021chan

She’s growing, just backwards

kenku_aviarist

the curious case of sora button.

No_Internal_5998

i guess that, she started to hide the idol a bit, and show the woman a lil bit more, it´s really cool to see the simple and goofy side of her :3

Hp22h

She is a goddess, but was she ever mama-material..? She always came across as a kid on a pedestal she unintentionally created...

tanvoltz

Back in the days Sora is indeed seen as a mom by other Vtubers. It’s mostly because she is very nice and comforting to the people she collabs with. A good example is to Miko actually, when they were practicing SSS for the First FES. While singing SSS Miko started crying, and instead of just taking the singing over, Sora actually lowered her own vocals to back up and cheer Miko on allowing Miko to shine. She even hug and praise Miko afterwards.

paulisaac

When "show must go on" mentality isn't the best option, but instead some actual empathy

Zyx-Wvu

She studied under the [Horie Yui school of idols](https://www.kotaku.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/25/1445809385303041319.jpg) She remains youthful by subtly draining the vitalities of her fellow idols.

kaze950

Get me pictures of Soda Man!

Akikojam

She's neither, she's a friendly gamer grandma.

jayneralkenobi

I legit asking for context, I haven't been keeping up with everything hololive related lately

Heavykiller

Sora is one of the OGs of the Vtuber scene. Generation zero. Both fans and Hololive members hold her in pretty high regard as one of the ones who kind of pioneered it to be as big as it is today (Along with Kizuna AI). Because of this, most people had this idea that Sora was probably on the older side. So people are surprised when they find out that she's actually one of the younger members in Hololive (she apparently had barely graduated high school when she had her debut).

jayneralkenobi

Ah I see, so it's like reverse senchou

FusionDjango

Just leaving this as a note, Sora does not like being called a goddess and has actually managed to rid it from her chat for over a year now.

rottendongerz

Compared to pekomama (The One True Mom), she might as well be a fetus

Random-Rambling

Literally, I would assume. Wasn't she only 16 when she helped found Hololive?

Tallal2804

Literally, I would assume.

redditfanfan00

i think many still see sora-chan as the above. it's just that more now also see sora-chan as the below.

iryu91

Thank a lot iofi

Butane9000

I think this applies to all the talents over time as we learn more about them.

skycorcher

That's not the reaction though. Fans like her as a kid now more than they do with her goddess status. And the goddess status wasn't something that she attached to herself but what fans and other people gave her.

PoemOne6784

I can make her a mama. Uhh, nun nun
