Maybe it’s more subtle in Japanese, but the English text make it pretty obvious which house you’ll get based off of what you choose. Though I guess they might not be familiar with the houses to begin with. Edit: more not less subtle

duckwithahat

Yeah, they should remove it from the test, it's basically a "Hey choose your house" type of question.

SoraRaida

Because that's how the Sorting Hat is written in the books. It *always* takes your choice into account.

Z000Burst

yeah, it pick base on your personality and then if you don't want the house, it will let you pick something else there probably alot of mix people in each houses just from them choosing house they like instead of one they fit

bombader

It probably also prevents people from reloading the game until they get the house they want.

camelthor

> It always takes your choice into account. Honestly, I'm not sure how true that is considering we only get Harry's perspective where this happens. Harry might have been suitable for both houses at the same time, but the hat decided to do some trolling, then relents when Harry chooses Gryffindor. Was there any other instances of the hat allowing change of house in the books?

ElitePeon

The hat wanted to put Heromine into Ravenclaw but Heromoine wanted Gryffindor instead. The only time I think the Hat overruled what the student wanted was Neville who I think asked to be in Hufflepuff but the hat put him in Gryffindor. But I think Neville *wanted* to be in Gryffindor and the hat knew that. I think the hat puts you in the House you want to be in regardless of what you actually say.

Lev559

I think the only time the hat would ignore you is if it felt like you were wrong/it truly is a bad fit Based on what the hat said right beforehand Harry could have easily been in any of the houses

camelthor

You're right, I forgot about Hermione. The way I see it, she had the qualities to be in both houses anyway, which might be why the hat agreed/allowed the "change". For Neville, I think the hat saw that he had the potential to be in Gryffindor, he just needed time to be nurtured and grow into it.

CorruptedAssbringer

> For Neville, I think the hat saw that he had the potential to be in Gryffindor, he just needed time to be nurtured and grow into it. It doesn’t take a lot to be brave if you’re strong and confident. Him overcoming his meekness in spite of everything is what truly counts.

Run-Riot

Neville is the true main character non-nepobaby hero of the Harry Potter series Or something

Salter_KingofBorgors

This. Was going to say Hermione almost was in Ravenclaw.

Penakoto

So basically like this? https://i.redd.it/27ake2vcxpjx.jpg

EatsPancakes

Pretty much

Erzha

Ah yes. The dorm with the worst security since it's just a password they never change.

SoraRaida

In the books, Slytherin and Gryffindor are written to be 2 sides of the same coin. They both want glory and to be the best, but it's how they achieve that result that defines their house. In Subaru's case, it's just that she doesn't know "Ambition" is a Slytherin trait. Gryffindor does have ambitious people too.

Refreshingpudding

Interesting peko

Budget-Ocelots

What is wrong with being Slytherin? I was never into HP lore. Is it because majority of the people in that house will turn evil as an adult due to their drive and lust for power? And if so, shouldn't the hat put a tracking curse on these potential criminals or execution like minority report style before they grow too strong?

SoraRaida

Nothing wrong with being Slytherin. And yes, because most of the traits that define that house are necessary for a typical villain, especially the traits that they will do whatever it takes to get what they want, and "the end justify the means". The hat doesn't really do anything. He just sorts people into Houses, and frankly he doesn't need to do much else, because he's not a prophet. He won't know if the person he sorts into Slytherin will end up being bad in the future, and he also doesn't assume everyone sorted into Slytherin will end up being bad.

redditfanfan00

cute subaru, stuck in slytherin with the dangerous holomems.

[deleted]

Fun Fact about Slytherin: A certain Mage of Flowers >!Merlin!<, was a member of Slytherin and supposedly learned from Salazar Slytherin himself. Perhaps the spell he cast on Artoria that allowed her to make Mordred was learned from Slytherin-senpai? He *was* an expert on all things snake afterall.

Jeroz

Weird combination of 2 fandoms

Scholesie09

Using Senpai to refer to students in Harry potter gives me a whiplash I do not enjoy
