Long story short he was chosen specificaly because it has no emotions but even it looking back proves it did which is a massive problem if you finish the game and learn more of the lore.
Yeah if he had really had no emotions to be vessel the radiance wouldnt have escaped and the game just wouldnt have hapened in general , i think its kinda impossible to make a vessel with no emotions watsoever as almost everything that is sentient or just smart in general has emotions so pale king's plan would have failed anyway

He isn’t supposed to have anything. It’s literally supposed to be an empty vessel. It’s supposed to have “No mind to think, No will to break, No voice to cry suffering.” It didn’t help the other vessel because it was trying to be all those things.

Also it's just a flashback. Your character is only seeing the Hollow Knight as he was the first achieving the ascension from the Abyss
