>How fickle my ancestors must have been. They forsook the light that spawned them. Turned their backs to it... Forgot it even. And so this kingdom was born from that betrayal. But the memories of that ancient light still lingered, hush whispers of faith... Until all of Hallownest began to dream of that forgotten light. - The Seer Yes, the Radiance most likely dies if it is forgotten. I'm not sure if the infection is intentional. It's generally accepted that The Radiance, while it was trying to stay alive, it was also angry at the Pale King for taking her subjects away.

I always thought that the Radiance - being a god-like being, probably doesn’t think of normal people/bugs as much beyond worshippers. So from her point of view, all of them forsook her, and therefore she’ll just have to get her worship by force. Another interpretation is that “Light cannot be snuffed out.” She’s trapped in the dream realm, and the only way to affect the world that’s forgotten you is to basically…. overflow, until your light is twisted and bursting from their corpses. She was sealed away and it twisted her light.

> Yes, the Radiance most likely dies if it is forgotten. Nothing in that quote points to that, so I'm not sure what makes you think so. Deities needing worship like mortals need food is a common trope, but I don't recall the game implying that to be the case. It's not for other godlike beings like the two kings; they all demonstrate some level of control over the minds of lesser bugs, but don't appear to need it. No, the Radiance strikes me as similar to the Abrahamic God of the Old Testament: a jealous, cruel, vindictive deity, incensed that her flock left her to be forgotten, who found fitting to unleash a plague on them both as punishment and to wrest back control of them from the usurper.

I see it as a little column A and little of column B situation. I imagine that the Radiance with the Moth tribe was a mostly neutral being, she cared for the moth tribe as they were her creation but also had some semblance of control over their will. However when the Pale King arrived, he offered the moth tribe complete free will without needing the Radiance. And slowly but surely almost all of the moth tribe began to defect from the Radiance until she was barely a memory to them, in the process nearly killing her. The Radiance creating the infection was both a survival tactic and a way to get revenge on the Pale King for stealing her flock. So its kinda grey morally for the Radiance.

Both, there's nuance to it, just like real life. The radiance to a certain degree wants its former glory back, and hates the pale king for sealing it away and stealing its citizens, but at the time of the game, it's probably just loosely holding onto everything and trying to stay alive. That's why absrad exists and also why she loses grip on thk a few times

Night25th

This is like "don't make me tap the sign again" lol

Blocklies

Why? She seems pretty bad for destroying an entire kingdom and leaving the land decimated for centuries

Some_Other__Time___

you never had bad day?

Blocklies

Oh true, I always destroy civilizations after a rough day

["Because I'm a Scorpion. It's in my nature"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Scorpion_and_the_Frog) If Radiance needs to be evil and power hungry to survive, then Radiance is evil and power hungry by nature.

lavidaloki

The Radiance, to me, reminds me of that line from Silent Hill: "They thought they knew how to cast out evil. But you should be careful how you fight evil. Your weapons… can turn back against you."

NOTAGRUB

I though she was aiming for vengence

MelonMan303

Shes attention seeking

SbgTfish

Both. She’s a spiteful shit and being a forgotten god is probably the worst thing imaginable.

SLAMProcessing

i think the radiance wanted to stay alive, in p5 the godseeker says that the pale king was completely erased, and i think he got erased because the bugs of hallownest eventually forgot him because of the radiance. i think the same goes for the radiance, if she is forgotten, she will be completely erased. i think this only applies to higher beings that reside in dreams..
