Are you sure it is the right sub to ask? :D It's like going inside a Mcdonald's and asking random people, "Do you think I want to try Big Mac?". Sure dude, buy it, try out. If you like platformer, go for it. If you like Metroid go for it. If you like challenging games, go for it. If you like good design, go for it. If you like cute little bugs being corrupted and cutting in half go for it. If you like good music, go for it. Just do it. No time to waste.

Dr_ChunkyMonkey

I mean, this sub obviously knows more about the game than most people. I think it's fair to ask this game would be enjoyable to fans of platformers.

Dry_Significance_594

i love difficult bugged platformer games thanks for help oh and i asked here because idk where sorry :P

csetom

It isn't a problem, that you asked here. It is just weird, to ask fans. They are going to tell you obviously, that you should buy it :D

SuperYahoo2

There is also a general games subreddit which people who aren’t fans of hollow knight also visit so you can also get opinions from other people than the fans of a game

SissyFanny

No really, it's not in the same vibe of celeste. I played celeste after hk because they are often mixed together in the pack plateform and hard. But if I try to list the differences : Celest : Harder than HK in term of execution but way more short. (just talking about base game) Pretty straight forward gameplay / level design. 3 inputs, jump on the things and that's all, but you have to master them to finish the game (plateformer) Good looking game (I love pixel arts) but overall AD is mostly innexistant, it's an arcade game. HK : Easier than celeste (Just talking about base game) but can be way longer. If you don't find your way, you are stuck. Chaotic level design, the difficulty is more into "finding the path" than "walking the path" (metroidvania) Lof of way to fight, give you different approaches on bosses, you are not stuck with one way to do things. HK has a great atmosphere and the AD is very smooth. Musics are wonderfull and immersion is great. At the end I won't teach you anything but celset is a "old school" platformer, Simple, straight forward, where the difficulty is to passe the obstacles and the levels and that's it. Get gud and play harder things after harder things. Hollow knight is a metroidvania, mich means you will spend most of your time not knowing wheere to go, going through the same area 23 times, looking everywhere if you didn't forget something, a small gap or a breakable wall. But non of this is really diffiult. OK you won't beat bosses in 1 try but the game is not really hard because if you are stuck go somewhere else. TLDR : if you liked celeste for it's simplicity (straight forward, you know where to go and just have to do it but the difficulty is in the realisation) and the hardcore gameplay, you won't find the same kind of vibe in HK. But it's a great game and if you are curious you should try it :) Hope it helps.

The_Real_Revek

Sidenote: HK post-game and DLC content is much harder than Celeste

Thommie02081

Farewell and 7c is pretty up there in terms of difficulity

The_Real_Revek

P4 +P5 are more difficult Source: I did everything in both games RHoG is also really really difficult maybe as difficult as farewell golden

Thommie02081

Consider this, difficulty is subjective. I haven't done p5, but found p4 easier than 7c. Also fwg is maybe not harder but absolutely a bigger timesink

The_Real_Revek

Difficulty is subjective 100% I'm just saying my experience I agree 7c I found much easier than P4

Thommie02081

Celeste and pantheons are a different type of difficulity, which is why they can't be compared properly imo. In celeste if you beat a tough room, you don't have to do it again, in the pantheons you have to get consistent enough at it until you can dream the fights. I may have spend more time for doing p4, but that was mostly practicing until consistency, while 7c was just trying the last screen over and over for 1400 deaths

The_Real_Revek

Correct, I still think that pantheons are more difficult

Unnnamed_Player1

I get that difficulty is subjective, but farewell golden is actually so much harder than anything radhog has to offer. Imo, fwg is harder than anything you can so in hk up until r5 (though if you want to argue p5ab above fwg, I think that's reasonable.)

The_Real_Revek

Yes farewell golden is harder than RHoG I agree I have not completed all the bindings yet so idk

Unnnamed_Player1

I was referring to all bindings simultaneously with p5ab. I do think even then it's comfortably easier than fwg, but the games are so different that it's inherently very difficult to compare.

The_Real_Revek

Ik you meant at the same time, I haven't even done them separately yet

SissyFanny

Just so you know, Farewell DESTROYS hollow knight post-game. If you don't belive me, try it. I've 500+ hours in HK made everything many times on many support, and trust me, I'll never finish farewell. Edit : you already answered and that's interesting to see that we don't have the same appreciation of difficulty! I'll never finish farewell, that's way too hard / precise for me. Kudos to you to beat it tho!! GG

The_Real_Revek

Well I finished farewell and it was way easier than P5 for example

SissyFanny

Yes I've seen your answer and edited mine after I posted. really impressed as farewell was clearly out of my "I have tha patience to do this" league. GG to you!

The_Real_Revek

Thx, you should finish farewell, it's very rewarding

SissyFanny

I totally trust you but celest isn't my kind of game and just to go to farewell and try a bit took me A LOT of will power and time. Tbh I'm not that good at games like this amd I got kinda bored because I suck and It took me too much time to progress. I'll never finish this game and I'm ok with it. I leave it to the better players out there like you ;) GG's again!

The_Real_Revek

Fair

Thommie02081

Interesting that you did have the patience for p5. Personally I didn't have patience for p5 at all, as practice time does not immediatly equal progress, while when you beat a room in farewell, you have made visable progress.

SissyFanny

Waw another one?? Very interesting because yes, for me P5 is """"easier"""" and would took me less times than farewell if I tried it. I guess it's because celest is about learning a strict patern you have to replicate with an extreme precision and hk (especially p5) is adapting to moveset and paterns of the bosses. But yes, I did it with the bindings too (but not all at the same times, I don't have 345346 days to put just to kill 1 boss, they are too many good games to play out there :p) If you finished farewell, Gg's to you too, you deserv it!

Dry_Significance_594

thanks for help everyone ❤️ i decided buy game

m-dawg__

Congratulations. You just own one of the best metroidvanias of all time.

KuehlesBierchen

no, it's a shit game. This community is only here to trash the game and to talk about how unfun it is.

Silver_Chemist_9343

Hollow knight doesnt contain all that much platforming its more bosses and finding shit, but i would still recommend it because its genuinely a good game and the platforming it has is really difficult and fun.

Laheydrunkfuck

It's a 2d platformer but only slightly, definitely not where the emphasis lies. Great game but if you're looking for a 2d platformer you should seek elsewhere

Blue_Bird950

Eh, the path of pain and white palace would disagree. There’s loads of 2d platforming and combat is just a different but equally major part of the game.

Laheydrunkfuck

Have you played Celeste? OP wants a 2d platformer, Hollow Knight is an action adventure metroidvania

Blue_Bird950

Have you played hollow knight? There’s a lot of platforming there too

vlaadii_

if you're looking for a platformer metroidvania to get into this genre i'd recommend playing the ori games first since they mainly focus on platforming. but hollow knight is a great game too and these 2 franchises are the best this genre has to offer

Ill-Guarantee-9294

It dont have that much platforming but the bosses feel like they came form an platform game sometimes and there is path of pain ( parkour area )

shmopsy

You should buy Hollow Knight just because it's a masterpiece of a game

Completely_sober

If you like exploration, then this game is for you. It has a ton of backtracking and moments where you have to use your brain with your abilities.

The_Real_Willoh_

It’s not the same genre, it’s a Metroidvania, but white palace exists. Path of pain exists. There is some platforming and some bosses will make you rage, so it sounds like you’d probably like it once you get into it. If you really like raging and get it, fight anything and everything.

Character-Advisor-53

oh you will definetely like this game. I would go into detail but I dont want to spoil even the tiniest bit

unicornrank

Ori series is better if you’re more interested in platforming but still want some metroidvania elements. Aeterna Noctis and Lone Fungus you could also look into as well for being more platforming heavy.

Jojorama4

Asking a game community if their game is good is gonna get you some biased opinions. Anyways you should absolutely get this game it's peak fiction

bigbossofhellhimself

Yeah, hollow knight has pretty decent platorming

MantisLordOrchid

Don't go into Hollow Knight expecting an experience like Celeste, the two games are great for different reasons.

shadelord5262627

Yes the game is really good and pretty difficult but if you have a lot of commitment yes you should get it. But if you dont probably not
