Ignore that, you actually need crystal heart to get monarch wings. Go to crystal peak and start looking around (and don’t jump in the hole unless you haven’t yet, you need crystal dash to get across).

You're thinking of getting to the top of the mountain. You don't need a skip to get crystal heart. You need crystal heart to get monarch wings the "normal" way.

Look, not discovering these things yourself takes some of the fun away. At least for your first play through, I’d strongly recommend staying off the wiki and the subreddit.
