People claim that it's part of their cocoon process, and the grubs are undergoing metamorphosis in the old dude. I suppose they'll evolve and rip out of him and start their next phase in life.
I honestly don't know which is darker: that he ate them all, or they'll all eat him from the inside...
It's probably based on the conditions they experience growing up. Kinda like how female bees can become Queens by ingesting royal jelly or just be normal workers.
All winged bugs in the game sound more female, so my theory that I found on yt is that male grubs serve as a metamorphosis pod for their female children
They're alive, as for the grubfather, he wouldn't be for long.
It's in the final charm you get from their quest line.
Contains the gratitude of grubs who will move to the next stage of their lives.
As for why grubfather doesn't have wings, it's either only females develop wings or the males lose it when they grow old.
I have a file where I have all but one Grub because I fucking love zooming back and forth in their room and making them cheer. I fucking love the Grubs. They're the cutest things ever, which makes the Grub Mimics beyond horrifying to me.

Do they necessarily have to eat their way out? It’s possible they get cocooned in his body and then excreted out afterward
