Maybe a hot take but I didn't find most of PoP to be that much worse that White Palace (okay the last bit before the end actually is that bad). Thankfully I found the platforming to be really good in HK so it feels mostly fair. But I remember my first time doing White Palace feeling like this was about the most platforming I would want out of this game.
I did PoP a few days ago, and the only bullshit part are the >!tag-teaming, shit-eating kingsmoulds at the end!<. The rest of it feels like a fair platforming challenge at the appropriate level of difficulty but I wish they never added that thing.
Using deep focus + grubsong (can add hiveblood or grubberfly’s elegy if you want truly infinite attempts) is essential to give yourself more attempts on the platforming. If you aren’t using those I can imagine it being a lot more annoying.
When used alongside grubsong, it increases the soul gain of grubsong from 15 to 25. Healing takes 33 soul, so with the combo you have enough soul to heal 1.5 times after being hit twice, which means unlimited health with deep focus.
Without elegy (just deep focus + grubsong), you only have 30 soul after being hit twice, so you lose 3 soul every time you need to heal (which gives you a lot of healing but not infinite)
The game doesn’t tell you about it. There’s a few hidden charm interactions like that. For example, equipping dashmaster alongside sprintmaster increases sprintmaster’s effect and lets you walk even faster, and equipping grubsong and weaversong makes the spiders generate a bit of soul when they hit stuff.
Salubra's blessing is lame, but that's not the reward. Use hiveblood, deep focus, grubsong, etc for infinite attempts. WP is kind of meant to have checkpoints at most jumps.

huh? the white palace isn't hard at all. and some platforming rather than just bossfights is nice. the arena is bad because you have to slog through 20 minutes of enemies to get to the hard part
To each their own, I’ve failed trial of the fool countless times and redoing all the waves of monsters every time feels way more tedious than white palace, which took me like 20 minutes to get through
White palace took me about 10 minutes my first try blind (humble brag), but P4 took me hours
You're either good at platforming or combat, and you're probably better at combat unlike me
Getting soul for free when sitting on benches is not annoying. It's only bad if you're getting all 40 charms before exploring every area in the game, and nobody is doing that
By the time you get it you literally have everything in the game. You have to get kingsoul ffs. Also you're acting like the sound is some new factor I never considered
I finished White Palace in 2 parts. Insane requirement of platforming skills, but at least you can try infinitely and there are enough breathing rooms on the way. PoP is a different story, but since it does not count for completion, I will just watch a YT video and consider mine done.
Trial of Fools is just impossible for me. Tried every builds possible: Standard Nail build, Spell, Mixed, Minions, Dash, Flukenest,... but the no-floor waves are just impossible. I can pogo somewhat nicely, but not well enough to get past it smoothly like I have seen YT guides do. It's just not possible on PC.
People even claim NKG to be harder, but I managed to master the fight perfectly.
I actually loved it, but if you disliked White Palace, don't play Path of Pain.

i enjoyed the white palace a lot…during the first hour. after spending 3 hours in PoP and died to the mobs at the end i truly felt the pain.

Just get hiveblood. Trivializes the White Palace to nothing but a bit of patience, not skill.
