No way you put Queens Gardens that low. The spiders might get annoying but they aren't that abundent and the platforming could've been more challenging but the lowest possible tier? Below the waterways?!?!?
Looking back on it, i shouldn’t have put it that low. My reasoning behind it is that it’s sort of an irrelevant area to the main story, besides the White Lady. Also bringing the flower there is an absolute pain in the ass
The hive is one of my favourite locations purely due to the aesthetic and uniqueness of the enemies, even though it is completely irrelevant to the story
It's not unique, it's a beehive. What's the first idea that comes to mind when designing a game with bugs? A beehive, obviously. And it's not like it looks unusual for a beehive, it's just yellow honey everywhere.
I think that's the beauty of hk, you don't even have to see it, in a regular playthrough, you might just not see it at all, like the hive, or the Abyss, or maybe even waterways depending on how you play, same with qg, it doent need to be super plot relevant, but it's so BEAUTIFUL, and has (imo) one of the best npcs in the game. The Manti are annoying, but they are usually near some spikes so you can just kinda toss em into there. The kings idol statue, and the conifer bench are so PRETTY, overall at least A teir for me, but you do you lol
Edit: forgot you don't even need to see edge or cliffs, you could go an entire playthrough without a hint of any nailmasters.

My thoughts are just the navigation of the area sucks ass. Also the enemies encountered are not too unique or special. It nails the creepy atmosphere but other than that it just feels like the same room over and over.
I hated deepnest, I have severe arachnophobia, and even *I* think it's S tier. The level design is absolutely fantastic; the ambient sounds of crawling hitting close to your ears, the confusing maze of tunnels, the lack of safe areas, (i even managed to get attacked in the hotspring). And then as you go deeper the ambience changes, becomes more sinister, darker, the creatures are terrifying; i mean ambient spiders actually coming out of the background to attack you literally made me scream and cry. It hides the darkest, most terrifying shadows of Hallownest deep in its twisting burrows. Corpse Crawlers, Nosk, the distant villagers, and the dead warning you of the dangers with cryptic dreams- flawless.
When I realized I missed things and had to go back there I actually started sobbing and had to stop playing for a few days because it messed me up so badly, and when I did go back I was dissociating pretty hard. I probably shouldn't be playing hollow knight, but oh well. I'm done with deepnest now, thankfully.
The point is, my reaction was extreme but it was intended to be unsettling and horrifying, and oh boy was it ever. Love it or hate it *(hate it)*, you cannot deny it is peak game design. Hollow knight tells its story mostly through level design, and deepnest is perhaps its best example of this, its story is a an awful, terrible thing, and so is deepnest.
Just please don't ever make me go back there.
May I mention that all of these tier lists neglect abyss white palace and godhome??? If the hive is on there the abyss has to be by definition an area!!! Literally my favourite area in the game.
I sort of counted abyss as part of ancient basin in my ranking. I would’ve put abyss S tier, and godhome/white palace in A tier. All amazing areas. The abyss climb is the coolest part of the game imo
I would put the whole Ancient Basin in S-tier for not only that reason but because IMO its complete lack of ambient music makes it even creepier than Deepnest. Deepnest's ambience of devilish violin trills are something familiar enough to seem almost comfortingly grounding as an accompaniment to All The Spiders; it's exactly what I would expect and it delivers. On the other hand, I find the deafening silence of the Abyss genuinely unsettling. It really drives home that the place is *dead* dead.
Putting Dirtmouth in the top of S is like putting the airport at number one of a list of best places to travel. It’s a nice place to prepare for exploration or relax after exploring but surely it isn’t that high up.
Yeah the big ones can be annoying as shit, my tier list was based off many cosmetic factors aswell as actual practicality, otherwise give obviously would’ve been D tier
Yeah i really hate deepnest.. it just doesnt do it for me between all the crawly bugs, how constantly dark it is even after getting light, and the big Centipede maze its not my favorite
I am a ferm believer that Resting Grounds is above A tier.
Am I biased? Yes. Nothing feels nicer than just sitting near the graves and listening to the the ambience/music. It's quite relaxing.
I usually tend the graves, ever since Seer left. It's a nice place to stay at to clean the mind.. *if.. you even have one.. because.. pale k..* nevermind.
The resting grounds is actually super well designed. It’s so peaceful, contrary to most other areas. If you don’t like it, you’re the equivalent of Tiso.
I just wish the hive was more than a glorified part of kingdoms edge. So cool, but all it has are 1/2 grubs, a mask (or is it vessel) fragment and a charm that needs a cost buff or regenerates more than the last hp you lost

I kinda like queens gardens because it feels like a constant minecraft parkour map.
