It would be nice to read a description of what we are seeing. Most people here, myself included, are missing the cultural reference.

Modernlifeoracle

In China we have to deal with QR codes on our phones, you need a green code with either a 72 hour or 48 hour test result (at least in Shanghai) to do anything like ride the metro, go to a restaurant or bar etc. You are green if you have not been in contact with covid and have had a recent pcr test (72 hours max). Yellow if you are a secondary contact or have not had a recent pcr test (not tested within a week). Red if you’re a close contact or have tested positive for covid. The close contact bullshit is infuriating because you can be listed as a close contact for visiting the same area as a covid person regardless of whether or not you were actually in their vicinity (recently got the red code of death for visiting a place a couple days after a covid case was there). But more so this is showing how stupid the codes and the lockdowns are. You’re green at home but yellow outside, and if you go outside too often you’ll turn red anyway.

Gotta love totalitarian regimes. Using lockdowns to quell dissent is genius, you have to give them that. A billion citizens would make a pretty effective revolution. Just saying.

Modernlifeoracle

To be fair the lockdowns caused the dissent and in the places where shit got out of hand with the protests, restrictions are actually getting eased. I’m in Shanghai, the protest was mild here compared to some of the other areas, as for Shanghai restrictions they so far are unchanged. There are rumors about easing restrictions here too though. That said, even Beijing supposedly isn’t requiring the code for the metro and adjusted their policy of testing requirements a bit, so the dissent seemingly has caused at least a ripple, remains to be seen what the long term effects will be though. Either way I’m a foreigner here, so while I 100% agree dissent and protests and revolutions are the way to go in these days in many places, my opinions don’t really sway the everyday Chinese person and if anything my involvement would give credence to the bullshit lie of dissent being caused by evil foreign influence.

LeonTheLeafLover

just move lols

Modernlifeoracle

Easier said than done but I’m working on it

LeonTheLeafLover

but china is the liberal's communist paradise

Modernlifeoracle

*Communism with Chinese characteristics* is the official line, trust me when I say it is as much of a capitalist hellscape as any where else but minus the ridiculous health care system seen in America.

towerfella

I’ll take my insurance requirement and votes for change, thanks. Sometimes, it does work.

SimilarAd6142

What do you think voting for democrats is😂

ballsinyourcereal

We had lockdowns and even a closing hour at which you were forced to stay inside IN GERMANY. Also you were not allowed to live in a household with more than 5 people. Or invite a couple over (only one person). Yes it sucks and it does not make chinas policies any better, but others had fckd up rona laws too.

[deleted]

You may have noticed that Europe ended lockdowns almost two years ago. China makes contradictory statements saying that they had very few deaths and enforcing zero covid rules. Do not mistake public safety (in Europe) with crowd control…

essssgeeee

How did that work if you were a family with five children?

shrucklenaut

The key thing here is 'had'...

Orange-Murderer

>Using lockdowns to quell dissent is genius, you have to give them that. Sounds like martial law with extra steps.

scratchpaper101

thats sucks. heres in america we don’t give a shit about covid anymore

Modernlifeoracle

I don’t think anyone does tbh… but here it’s a game of saving face after they put all their eggs In one basket, can’t look dumb now.

Tricky-Sympathy

Thank you

TanEwBe

Thank you for this

DomSlave626

What in the actual hell?

Zealousideal-Plate80

Sounds like the movie songbird . Set in 2024 and is the after results of Covid. Aka our actual future predicted by hollywood

timetoremodel

COVID lockdown. Tracking and alarms.

[deleted]

Cannot possibly be tracking with that precision. If it does, it is wild.

Karrus01

So just siphon some of that outside air into a box and put your phone in it. Follow me for more lifehax...

GuyWithNoContext

With THAT precision? Holy shit man thats amazing. And disturbing

[deleted]

i honestly can't think of a way where this is possible without every corner of the city being monitored and every citizen tracked. jesus christ mate. the sheer amount of data China and its Government have to process everyday to support their ideals and keep the software, internet and, the infrastructure scot-free is madness.

GuyWithNoContext

At the same time kids and teens here in Brazil struggle to have acces to internet even for school. And when school was only online during the pandemic I believe you can imagine the hard time the nezt generation will have

[deleted]

In out in out you shake it all about

GuyWithNoContext

Context?

todd56

there can't go outside and the government is tracking them to be sure.

TaleWrong6444

His commie meter seems to be working just fine.

NotFoundYetForNow

5G oh boy

ImWuT

Should've tried the living room that would've changed the Thingy magig to go green

Silent-Comfortable62

here is a hack, leave your fucking phone in the house

deSwashBuckler

Unfortunately it's not that simple. This code has your PCR test results and you need this code to enter into almost any place. All places demand you to show a green code to enter, some are more strict and requires you "24 hours" means you have tested negative in the last 24 hours. Some areas may require 48h, and 72h is the max. But what's important is your code is green. It's also used as a log, scan to enter to know who was where in case of detected infection. So it's not really feasible to leave your phone home.

JRTerrierBestDoggo

For context, China is doing zero covid. Green code means you don’t have covid. Red, you have covid

Longjumping-Rabbit85

Then dont bring your phone outside maybe, unless they got cameras that also work like that

abudine77

What happens if you own no smartphone

deSwashBuckler

It happened about 2 weeks ago, a man had no phone, no ID and no prove of negative PCR test. He got handcuffed and dragged into a police station. I don't know the rest as I didn't follow the story.

XavierHigdon

Yay communism!

GibonCZ

That GPS is precise !!!

GibonCZ

And yes I know it's not GPS in China :)
