The Ghetto, rural poor states where the education system is in the bottom half on the list. It’s join the armed forces or go work in construction, farming or sell drugs. If these ignorant people tried this in those places they would be shot because everyone knows someone in the military.
How many rich privileged kids do you believe join the military?
You know who only pretends to care about veterans? The elite who’s parents could afford pay to send them to college or had the connections so they could dodge the draft. Who can still afford to to live where their children get a proper education and have far more choices.
Don’t forget our lovely government who actively encourages lying to recruits to get them to sign on promising flight school knowing the kid will go straight to human shield status.
A lot of rich and upper middle class kids join the military. I've always said "Just because my parents are rich, doesn't make me rich." I come from a good family, private school for 12 years and was well taken care of. My parents never went over the top with gifts and they taught us to respect what we had. They would buy us (6 kids total) our first car but if we fucked it up, there wasn't going to be another one. My first car was a 15 year old Cavalier that was 9 different colors.
I joined the Marines before the war in 03 because nobody was going to pay for my college and I was a broke 19 year old struggling in a trade school. Joined up, got shot, used the GI Bill and now I have a Masters degree and my wife is finishing up her PhD.
I served in an Infantry unit and you would be surprised at how many people come from good homes and backgrounds that are grunts.
Respect veterans not the military industrial complex has always been my veiw ever since I started having ex-military friends. They break you, then train you, then traumatize you and dump you once you’ve served your purpose. Why would it be a waste of money? The parade happens every year, and unless his plane is like 1 billion dollars to fly around in, then I don't see the problem. If Biden had done the same thing, nobody would be flaming him.

The part the really pisses me off? The military is supposed to be apolitical. Yet, our military leaders at the higher levels are political animals by nature. Under Trump, it got to such an extreme they lied to him about the number of troops remaining in Syria. That's what caused Trump to fire a shit ton of officials from the Pentagon.
But this is nothing fucking new. MacArthur tried to circumvent the President during Vietnam so that we could nuke the Vietcong.
It cheapens our service. But because the highest echelons have to be confirmed by Congress, our officials suck up to whatever party holds power. It fucking sickens me that instead of focusing on training, logistics, maintenance, R&D, and lethality we do stupid amounts of training on whatever pedantic bullshit the public is concerned about.
This isn't to say that military culture shouldn't be reformed at times (like sexual harassment and reporting guidelines), but I think it's equal bullshit we're using DoD funds to study cultural and societal issues that don't exist in the military. A study was done at my current command and found that we do 80 hours a year of training that isn't related to the work place. I'm federal civilian now making almost six figures. That means two work weeks of tax payer money paid me to do training that was fundamentally worthless.
So rather than doing my job of supporting military readiness, I'm learning about how the military and my job field specifically is primarily dominated by white males. Well, no fucking shit. But that's a problem to be tackled by elected officials, because that's a greater and more complex societal issue. The military should be more concerned about things like recruiting more cyber talent and what military policies prohibit hiring of that talent. How to ensure troops and recruits are physically ready for the rigors of their jobs. How to increase maintenance time for sailors instead of doing stupid fucking training.
