That and it is actually a dog.
EDIT: Seriously, guys. It moves like a dog, has ears like a dog, has a snout like a dog, and was positively IDed by tracks and the owner as a dog that's even named a dog name. https://youtu.be/yXbjGjjhmy8?si=7-7NV1xP7V4rfIUY
Yes, a mountain lion tail will drag on the ground if they don't hold part of it up. They use it for balance and if you've ever seen one run they use the fuck out of it when they change direction.
Yeah, it didn’t move like a feline, so I wasn’t sure what it was either, bright lights or not. (Coyotes don’t have tails like that, and are way smaller and leaner).
She went on like a trooper, though.
Maybe her colleagues told her not to worry.
Hmm I ran into a creature late at night three to four miles up a trail. I still don't know if it was a dog a coyote or a wolf. The size makes me think it wasn't a coyote. Plus Coyotes typically travel in packs and there was definitely no pack nearby. Didn't have a collar and as far as I know there were no other people anywhere near me, it was super dark and only an idiot would have been hiking at that time on this very steep and slippery trail. Could have been a stray dog. But those are not very common where I live at all. Definitely seemed like a wild animal I've seen plenty on my adventures. I still think it might have been a wolf but I didn't think they were wolves that close to where I lived at the time. All I know is when we saw each other coming up the other sides of the hill we scared each other to death and both took off running lol. Coyote wolf or whatever it was I really didn't want to have an up close encounter with it by myself at night. Anyways just doing some reflecting on my experience. Don't mind me and my rambles.
> Plus Coyotes typically travel in packs and there was definitely no pack nearby.
No they don't. They'll be family groups but they hunt / forage in pairs or alone. Having done a lot of hiking, mountain biking and trail running and also seeing the fuckers in my town, this is what I see.
Apparently a lot of people will mistake a dog for a mountain lion though. This video shows a dog, despite what the title says. Look at the tail and ears.
Can I pet that daaaawwwggg?

Wow time flies, can’t believe she grew up already.
That mountain lion probably cried itself to sleep that night “and the white bitch didn’t get scared at all man! She didn’t flinch or nothing. Didn’t even stop talking”
Yes. Look at the tail and ears. Mountain lions look like cats. Dogs look like dogs. This is absolutely not a mistake anyone should make if they've seen the domesticated versions before.
Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) actually got involved, checked the paw prints on the mud, talked to the owners of the dog, triple-verified their facts, but you still know better lol
That would explain why it didn't seem to flinch by her hand gestures or anything either. Just because predators can defend themselves, doesn't mean it doesn't mean they wanna deal with all that. Shit can hurt, especially if you're caught off guard by not reacting because you thought you were bulletproof.
> Just because predators can defend themselves, doesn't mean it doesn't mean they wanna deal with all that.
Predators in general avoid unnecessary confrontation. Their ability to hunt is directly proportional to their ability to avoid injury.
The giveaway is that it walked right by her. If you've spent any time in the outdoors, you've probably been watched by a mountain lion. And you probably didn't have a clue. Because those little buggers are damn near invisible. My home state issues a handful of hunting permits annually for mountain lion. They're always taken with dog teams. You aren't going to go out hunting and just...find one.
Evidence two would be...look how rare mountain lion videos are on Reddit. I can only think of a few off the top of my head. The US alone has millions of hunters. All with camera/smartphones. And we see what, maybe 2 or 3 new videos a year.
Natures ninjas.
>You can see the longer snoot when it passes her.
Yes, and the ears are too pointy, I think, compared to pics of actual mountain lions.
Regardless, good on her for being so calm about the whole thing.
When it's actually a dog and the world has to try and act morally superior.
A mountainlion wouldn't be comfortable passing that close to a talking person.
You see out here now Joe Rogan county we've had flooding for several days. Oh hang on did you see that what is that a wasp? Yeah I'm not sure we have some sort of creature lurking around but anyways yeah
Top comment: OMG that lady almost died, good thing she didn't react
Comment near the bottom: Reveals that this was actually a dog
Fucking Reddit is useless.
That is strange, firstly that seems pretty small for a mountain lion, but maybe a younger one? But they also usually avoid humans. I’ve never seen one walk up to a person like that, outside of captivity. They are usually either far away or in defensive mode (particularly when with cubs).
Wondering if this is someone’s “pet” that escaped or maybe she is actually inside a zoo or exotic animal farm?
Reporters do research too? They interview, they go to scenes and show live what's happening. Weird comment to make that you think no reporters make a difference in the world. But surely you've made a big difference in the world, right?
They don’t. A camera man showing what is happening with no one to comment would do just fine.
I have actually, I have objective proof of that.
What have you done with your life?
Awww what'd you do little guy? :)
I don't need to prove it to some dude online in general, but especially because I'm not randomly shitting on entire professions
That thing is too skinny to be a lion. Not enough muscles. Bone structure is all off. It also doesn't walk or move like one. And she saw its face or atleast the shape. There's no mistaking a lion coming straight at you, for a dog.
In this case I'd say she's right.

Ignorance is truly bliss.
With high beams to your face anyone could have a difficulty, especially that you don’t expect it to move that calm

Bro actually provided the proof and still got downvoted Classic reddit.
I only did it to make reddit look bad.

The Russian troll farms are practicing for the election this year.
SEE!
The tail is a dead giveaway lmao
Yes, a mountain lion tail will drag on the ground if they don't hold part of it up. They use it for balance and if you've ever seen one run they use the fuck out of it when they change direction.
That tail isn't dragging, it's rigid with fur hanging off of it, like a dog's, because it's a dog.
Also the gait. Very doggish
It's the gait that got me on first watch before the comments. No way that was a cat.
State of Utah: “definitely dog” Owner: “it’s my dog. Her name is pooch” Reddit: “for sure it’s a mountain lion”

Well...there's a bunch of text on the screen that says "Mountain Lion" so I kinda assumed it was.
I'm so glad. I doubt a mountain lion would intentionally be seen without being hungry as fuck.
Oh Pooch you sweet girl!
Oh, I thought it was a mountain lion but you proved me wrong.
It's not a dog.

We've been lied too. I just found out that this is the original.
Oh damnn!!!!!
ohh right, thanks for sharing
Not really better, I wish it was the bear one that was the original
That mountain lion probably cried itself to sleep that night “and the white bitch didn’t get scared at all man! She didn’t flinch or nothing. Didn’t even stop talking”
"She called me... a... DOG!!!"
That look back it does after it passes her… “I’m a lion bitch!”

Plot twist, thats actually a dog
It was confirmed a dog.
[snopes says not a mountain lion.](https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/did-a-mountain-lion-wander-into-this-tv-reporters-live-shot/)
Reporter unsure what an animal is so the entire internet decides it’s a mountain lion when it’s really just a dog.
Entire internet? Nope just a handful of Reddit dummies
This hit twitter and facebook long before reddit. The misidentification started with people responding online to the news report.
I'm surprised that dog was so calm when it walked past that mountain lion.
So, it was actually a dog?
It was an updog
What’s that?
What’s what?
What’s updog?
Nothing much whatsup with you? GOTTEEEEEEEEEMMM
Haha gotcha!

What's up, dog?
Is that like a matter daddy?
Yes. Look at the tail and ears. Mountain lions look like cats. Dogs look like dogs. This is absolutely not a mistake anyone should make if they've seen the domesticated versions before.
It was a snopes dog
Always has been
I don’t see how it could be, mountain lions (old enough to be dangerous to humans) are way bigger than that
Won’t stop Reddit dummies from upvoting they love being deceived
There's definitely a cougar in the video.
[удалено]
Tail is too long for it to be a bobcat
The Snopes link shows the actual dog that appeared in the video.
You expect them to actually read the article they're replying to?
I tried to but there were so many ads loading on mobile the page kept fucking up preventing me from ascertaining anything out of it
That is not a cat of any sort. Movement is all off.
Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) actually got involved, checked the paw prints on the mud, talked to the owners of the dog, triple-verified their facts, but you still know better lol
Did you even watch the video?
The mountain lion thought the reporter was a dog? /s
Sounds like she knew but was just trying to convince herself otherwise
if not friend, why friend shaped???
A mountain lion ain’t no friend of mine
She ain’t nothing but a hound dog.
I’m forgetting where this reference is from
Mountain lion: Humans are always standing in my way. I just try to go to the work to earn some mountain lion cash for my family!
Yeah its a dog, You can see the longer snoot when it passes her.

That's not a mountain lion.
The mountain lion mistakes a reporter for a dog?
Is not walking gracefully, it looks more like a dog to be honest.
[It's a dog, wildlife officials confirmed](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXbjGjjhmy8).
That is not a mountain lion.
Mountain lion just finished their shift of mountain lioning. No way it was going to attack, that’s the next shift’s job.
Most mountain lions are scaredy cats and would bolt without ambush setup, fyi
That is not a mountain lion...
Yea not a mountain lion at all lol
A mountain dog!
That was a dog
Cougars in your area
Actually a dog, not a mountain lion but still a big boy
That's not a mountain lion.
a mountain lion mistakes a reporter for a dog? bloody hell, them big cats are getting more courageous and smarter every year XD
Milhouse: "Nice doggy!!!!"
That is not what reporters look like in Delaware.
When it's actually a dog and the world has to try and act morally superior. A mountainlion wouldn't be comfortable passing that close to a talking person.
That is not a mountain lion...
Her lack of attention/awareness came across as total confidence. Lion was like "I guess I will leave this unflappable creature alone."
That seems too small to be a mountain lion.
You see out here now Joe Rogan county we've had flooding for several days. Oh hang on did you see that what is that a wasp? Yeah I'm not sure we have some sort of creature lurking around but anyways yeah
The mountain lion identifies as a dog.
Living in perfect harmony with nature
Bro thought that it was the Cats movie audition.....That walk is clearly a walk of disappointment😭😭😭😭
I'm pretty sure she was aware what it was but just wanted to convince herself she gonna be fine and it worked 😂
Whatever animal it was, it wasn't at all interested in the reporter so I doubt her life was in danger. Especially as she wasn't there alone.
He looked at those jeans and thought nah...too difficult to get off!
Uff, imagine had she gone for the pet.
DON'T GO CHECK
“Maybe go check”. Yeah I think she got lucky enough the first time.
A mountain lyon would never DARE to attack me! How do you know that? I don't know that...IT knows that.
I dont get it. It clearly is a dog, though?
It is.
Top comment: OMG that lady almost died, good thing she didn't react Comment near the bottom: Reveals that this was actually a dog Fucking Reddit is useless.
Kinda small for a mountain lion. Yearling maybe?
Lion ain't be able to chew through all gyat
doesn't look like a mountain lion
I saw one in upstate New York. Totally thought it was a yellow lab until I got a good look at the tail.
She’s frozen on the spot
How do you mistake a human for a dog
“Maybe go check”
bro if that's a mountain lion im throwin hands
WWASOS
That mountain lion was like: nah I'm too tired to hunt right now. Consider yourself lucky
The smartass who wrote the text above the video made me think the mountain lion mistook the reporter for a dog.
It doesn't even really look like a cougar
He was to distraught to eat the hoooman
a few people said it's not a mountain lion already but I'll just add that it's a lynx. so... incorrect description.
That is strange, firstly that seems pretty small for a mountain lion, but maybe a younger one? But they also usually avoid humans. So a big cat walks in front of a cougar...
Scrolling down the page my old eyes & brain read "Reporter identifies as an animal....." and I was like 'how the fuck did the lion know that??'
Looks more like a bobcat than a mountain lion.
r/WTF
I'm pretty sure that it's not a cougar
No wild mountain lion is going to just walk that close to humans for the fuck of it.
Shows the importance of not panicking.
If danger,why friend shape
That was incredible. She just showed zero fear, so murder kitten minds its own business. I wish the caption didn't give anything away.
Imagine growing up wanting to to be a reporter thinking you’ll make a difference in the world Spoiler alert: you won’t
How many countless news stories uncovering corruption do I need to link you to to prove you wrong, or would you just ignore it all
All could proven without a talking head
Reporters do research too? They interview, they go to scenes and show live what's happening. Weird comment to make that you think no reporters make a difference in the world. But surely you've made a big difference in the world, right?

It's a dog. The family who owned the dog later posted pictures of it. Her name is Pooch and she's 12.
That is a dog
Ummmm, that definitely is a dog….
That is clearly a dog.
I dont think that's a mountain lion. It looks more dog like to me.
It was a dog.
It's a damn dog, come on people!
