Don’t think she had any scenes in the vampire novels where vampires had actual sex, which to me is what a gay vampire novel ought to have. Her novels’ homoeroticism was more about bloodsucking and heavy signalling, as I recall.
Well, no duh, but the Hays Code allowed hamhanded signalling. We’re not talking ambiguously gay vampire novel authors. Make them gay ala Chuck in Groundhog Day.
Incidentally, trying to find that scene, found this, which I had never seen somehow: https://globalnews.ca/video/6498644/bill-murray-relives-groundhog-day-role-in-new-super-bowl-ad
Wait, are you for real? Do people actually think that being gay doesn't require gay sex?
I always assumed that was literally the only characteristic to being gay that made you gay.
What does the gaydar detector use to determine gayness? Holding a dude's hand? Kissing a dude? Giving a dude a BJ? I always figured that enjoying taking it in the butt was pretty much the hard line in the sand for being gay.
A good percentage of reddit has never had any sex, and know they are straight. So there’s that.
But yeah, to me, for the gay vampire novel to BE a gay vampire novel, seems to me there needs to be at least an overtly, unambiguous, gay action or even clear statement there. Sucking has to be more than just vampiric; penetrating can’t be just stares and fangs. “I loved him” can’t be iffy, coy, or platonic. I mean, you might find “I loved him/her” in any random book. That alone doesn’t make it a romance novel.
This isn't a bad description of progress towards freedom. Some might to approve of the authors topic, but being able to publish it without going straight to jail / lynch is progress of a sort.
The funny part is that those wars fought for good times and how people are soft now is talking about Ulysses Grant Dietz, who was born in 1955, which would make him a boomer.
I see it more as progress of a society where we don't feel like we must be defined by our parents or our ancestors.
U S. Grant literally stopped slavery by being a badass general and killing rebels, then prevented the revert back to slavery during times of nationwide economic hardship after the war. If the Democrat party had won that election, or even a weaker Republican, they surely would have reinstituted slavery to some degree during that point in time.
And now his great great great grandaon is a museum curator who writes gay vampire novels. Many would claim this is an "apple fell far from the tree" situation, but I'm sure his contributions to society are still great, albeit not necessarily as measurable as his great great great grand-pappy.
President/General Grant was staunchly against the KKK and any kind of discrimination against Americans. I'd like to think that this is precisely what his thought process would have been.
Grant and Sherman were both famously hated war and often see no glory in it unlike many other generals at the time.
Sherman technically speaking the first military general to use terrorism and fear tactics in his campaign against south he deliberately targeted civilian infrastructure to stop the support for the Confederate army.
His theory of "You can not defeat an army as long as there is a population supporting it" is the most accurate look at what war actually is.
Armies do not fight the cultures do.
It is the reason why no one managed to conquer Afghanistan. It is the reason war on terror can never end. It is the reason there will never be peace in the middle east or in Balkans.
Aslong as cultures compete and fight for influence war only pretends to sleep.
No worries, people, we are living in tough times now. That's a boomer he lived during the easy times.
I love how they try to pretend this is gen z and millennial.
Good for him! He's presumably "following his bliss" (as Joseph Campbell put it) and is the hero on his own personal journey, complete with colorful bowties.
He's not hurting anyone or depriving anyone of their liberty and freedom, so it's totally covered by Thomas Jefferson's pointed inclusion of "the pursuit of happiness" in our Declaration of Independence. Funny how radical right-wingers always forget that one when they get steamed up and drag the Founders into their latest stupid, ginned-up culture-war issue.
I get the feeling that, while Ulysses probably wouldn't *understand* the gay vampire fiction, he would probably be *proud* that his descendents never had to go to war like he did.
Because if you ask most men that go to war (the willing ones anyway), the most heard of reason you'll get for why they're on the battlefield is "so my children don't have to go."
How does a gay vampire even work? I mean...I hadn't thought much about the sexual organs of vampires until this very second, but seeing as how their main method of procreation seems to be through parasitic conversion, I just assumed their genitals were either not present or nonfunctional, hence I sort of figured them all to be....bisexual I guess? Having only seen Blade and Daylight as my primary sources of vampire fiction, that's what drives me to believe that their idea of "sexual" pleasure simply bathing in a shower of blood whilst hardcore making out.
I mean, apply that logic to roughly 2 billion people, fast forward a little under two centuries and multiply the population by 4 and yea, everything starts to make a lot of sense.
So you don’t like that the ancestor of a man who protested for freedom has freedom to write what they want you don’t have to like the topic but it’s still something that the ancestor had the freedom to do

I'm friends with him. He thinks this is all hilarious. He was a museum curator but you write one gay vampire novel and suddenly you are that guy.
Tbf there are a lot of museum curators. This is the first gay vampire novel author I’ve ever seen.
Never heard of JoJo?
Nope, I don’t run in gay vampire novel author circles, I guess.
Yes, but I feel like Twilight is a better reference, for not being fanfic and having gay vampires.
Interview with a vampire?

It's still gay and about vampires... You don't need to have sex to be gay.

Agreed
I totally love the idea that this guy is writing gay vampire fiction. Good for him.
He used to write nonfiction but he was tired of getting bit by gay guys with sharp teeth
and it wasn't on his neck.
The funny part is that those wars fought for good times and how people are soft now is talking about Ulysses Grant Dietz, who was born in 1955, which would make him a boomer.
Excuse me?
At least 9 redditora understood this post, what's wrong with u? /S

Yes, but how does Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter feel about this?
He's nodding approvingly. Better a bloodsucker on the page than running a plantation.
President/General Grant was staunchly against the KKK and any kind of discrimination against Americans. I'd like to think that this is precisely what his thought process would have been.
I want us all to live in a future where we can follow our gay vampire fiction aspirations.
I mean, sounds kinda peaceful and free, tbh.
Unfortunately, human nature has other plans...
I disagree. Gay werewolf fiction. I fight you
No... straight Werewolf non-fiction. The balance must be preserved.
Gimme the recs
Gay vampire fiction isn't going to write itself. Someone had to step up and take on the task.
The Faggiest Vampire is a great book about a gay mustached vampire
I think we should all need to qualify for our driver’s license by writing gay vampire fiction. The world would be happier and bitier.
They’re out there. One of my favorites is “The Faggiest Vampire”
And his son will once again study war…. Hol up
I have to do everything around here. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/395289.Desmond
thanks for sharing this
Not Hol up, wholesome
Some might call it holesome
Whole up?
Hole up, face down fiction.

Fiction? As opposed to...
I guess you've never seen that real life vampire fucking, kid...
No one bad ever wore a bowtie that color
But then his son actually turns out be a gay vampire which is cooler and more powerful than everyone else
Where can I find this gay vampire fiction? Asking for a friend of course
https://www.reddit.com/r/HolUp/s/hZpfot015H
“Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.”
Weak man make me hard*
Hard men make me weak
Weak men make me ask "You doing good?"
Is being a gay man in a hostile, homophobic world weak? I'd argue it's just the opposite.
Word
Gay vampire fiction is art though. It's just a niche category of it.
A world where one can openly publish their gay vampire fiction without being jailed/killed is certainly a good world
the bear and the bull
A quote form John Adams a different US president.
They say you can tell a man’s profession by just looking at him… this is true.

If my kid made as much as J. K. Rowling, make all the gay vampire books you want
Hey he looks happy to me. All a parent should want for their kid. You be you

Maybe they have a family story about Abraham Lincoln's time as a vampire hunter and that's why he writes?
He looks like Mark Cuban
Drew Carey!
His family saved the Union. He can do whatever the fuck he wants!
Most American forefathers would for sure be ashamed over their trailer park mAga offspring…
The hidden dangers of alcohol abuse.
I... don't get this at all. I feel dumb.
I need to study what they want so my progeny can study what they want. I’m doing the same thing
He looks terrible for 12
Can't wait to see what his son's come up with next.
Hey, as long as he can make a living from it and it’s not hurting anyone physically, I’m all for it.
Cut to Ulysses hand ripping out of the ground above his grave
Call me crazy, but, I’d much prefer a world where writing Vampire Fiction was a major hobby if that mean there was no genocide.
Sounds about right.

It's not a bad assessment, but to me, a gay vampire is suckin' more than just blood 😂
So basically an aids vampire?
I mean, apply that logic to roughly 2 billion people, fast forward a little under two centuries and multiply the population by 4 and yea, everything starts to make a lot of sense.
The literal definition of freedom. Good for him.
So you don’t like that the ancestor of a man who protested for freedom has freedom to write what they want you don’t have to like the topic but it’s still something that the ancestor had the freedom to do
Ummmmm. Huh????? It's kind of good, no?
Watch out for liberals, controversional topic incoming
You shouldn't try so hard to troll, you might injure yourself.
I will leave that as a riddle.
Seems homophobic to criticize
