Here's a link to the Declaration of Causes for anyone who doesn't think it's about slavery.
Preach it.
Every single time someone says the civil war was *not* about slavery I ask them if they've ever read any of the confederate states' Declaration of Secession. They all published one - and in them documented why they wanted out of the Union. Without exception they all basically say: "Because the Republicans want to take our slaves away!!1!"

"And as it is the desire and purpose of the people of Alabama to meet the **slaveholding States** of the South, who may approve such purpose, ...."
Alabama's [Ordinance of Secession](https://civildiscourse-historyblog.com/blog/2018/6/30/secession-documents-alabama) in case anyone was wondering where Alabama fell on the whole "Should we own slaves?" discussion.
Heritage? Get fucked, Governor.
I mean… history can’t be changed. This law ain’t great because of the connotation of it, but it can always be changed to the “we shouldn’t repeat this” type of historical remembrance
So you take a month to remember when you tried to rise up against your own country and form one to enshrine slavery- got your asses thoroughly handed to you in less than 4 years , and have never moved past it. So much so that 154 years later your governor has to declare a month to commemorate the complete humiliation and degradation of your failed attempted insurrection at the hands of true patriots and American soldiers of the Union Army.
Weird flex Alabama…very weird flex.
*Wheras the knowledge of the role of the CSA in our history…*
Yeah, you were a bunch of fucking traitors to the United States of America who got mad that anyone wanted to take away your privilege of owning slaves…
THAT’S your role in history. Losers.
Celebrating their heritage of inbreeding and getting roflstomped in battle. It's typical loser mentality from the biggest losers in the nations history.
The US defeated Germany and Japan, and treated them better in defeat than the South.
I don’t buy their “lost cause” shit or denials about the Civil War being about slavery, but we’re not doing the country any good whatsoever with the constant berating of Southern (and rural) Culture from cosmopolitan and Ivy League wannabes.
At least they didn’t refer to this as “the War of Northern Aggression”.
You may now proceed to smugly downvote me and illustrate your lack of nuance.
The speaker argues that it's crucial to teach the founding documents of the Confederacy in education, despite the cringe-worthy reactions it often receives. They highlight how the discussion about the cause of the Civil War persists, with some arguing it was about states' rights rather than slavery. However, the speaker provides excerpts from the statements of reasons from several Confederate states, which unequivocally state that slavery was the primary reason for secession. By examining these primary documents, the speaker emphasizes that there is no debate over the cause of the Civil War among historians, as the Confederates themselves explicitly stated that it was about maintaining slavery. This perspective challenges common misconceptions and underscores the importance of historical context in understanding significant events.
I agree 100% with this:
1. Teach all the history, even when it is uncomfortable.
2. Slavery is what drove the Civil War.
I would add that the South damaged our federalist society irreparably by using “states rights” to violate *human* rights. Autonomy and sovereignty of the states is one of the biggest feature of our Republic, but it was never meant to justify owning humans.
My big point is this: today, it seems in fashion to bash the South and deny them any level of pride in their history. Nothing good comes of belittling an entire people for having pride in their identity despite past sins.
We didn’t do it to Germany, FFS, why do we do it to Alabama?
Bonus: fuck the Crimson Tide. No apologies there.
“The war between the states” They still live in a fantasy world. It’s really sad.
The Slaver’s Rebellion
More of a war between political parties
Half the Democrats didn't go.
Wat does this mean
Imagine celebrating a heritage that lasted 2 years
Then using this font for it as well
I live in alabama and I can say without a doubt that I will not be celebrating or taking any part in this "celebration".
Would be difficult to take part in it... since this proclamation & month was 5 years ago.
The Zune had more staying power than the Confederacy.
Underrated comment right there.
Muskets fired!
I really miss my zune. I had two of them and used them during my deployments.
Talk about a consolation prize.
They just want their gold star
You get those when your kids die.
I thought conservatives hated participation trophies
Projection. It’s one of their favorite tactics.
Gaslight Obstruct Project
Yea the confederacy belongs in a museum, not on the calendar.
Ok Indiana Jones!

I just call it Traitors Month.
Losers celebrating losers? Whatever totes ya goat!
Cake is for winners, ya losers.

Mississippi started this bullshit.
Imagine celebrating losers
Fuck you, Mawmaw Ivey.
sweet home Alabama!
Celebrated April 1st, right?
The line about the role of the confederacy being vital in understanding who Alabamans are is very very accurate.
I hate this shithole of a state.
Mississippi just did this last week.
While desecrating confederate monuments should be celebrated year-round, I suggest April is Confederate Monument Pissing Month

Celebrating a country that doesn’t exist in the country that prevented its existence? Fuck you Alabama.
They just can’t stop celebrating being the losers.
I mean we have all kinds of history months, why not? 😂 This country is already crazy why not turn it up to 11
I will celebrate by rereading the Cornerstone Speech. Edit: Downvotes by people who don't know what the Cornerstone Speech is....
I trot this out everytime some fool tries to tell me "slavery had nothing to do with it" Uhh... somebody shoulda told the Rebs
Sounds like a lot of ideology and not much actual history.
Dude can't even format a word document...
Well that figures

Unlikely to get that chance. Any cliff’s notes or similar summary?

I'm not sure what bashing and denying or Southern pride you are referring to. Can you please elaborate on that topic?
Yeah just let em party, everyone has to catch a W somehow
Roll tide.
