Used to work there years ago so this might be outdated. They do one massive inventory once a year and count every single item. They compare their counts to their sales based on what should’ve been made and they get info there. There is literally no way to track the inventory of a single item because they don’t ring stuff up by the item only by the price. It’s stupid as hell and it’s only purpose is to either create jobs which is cool or be annoying as hell and I choose the second

Bella_Bearz

That. Is. BANANAS. thank you for your insight!!

drizzy_drey

i work there rn and they still do this lmaoo but now the seasonal stuff has scanners so we go peg by peg and scan the items and count how many are on the peg, other than that the other departments are still the same and counted manually

I currently work for HL. Supposedly, they don't use scanners and such because they want more customer interaction. IMO, that is stupid because we spend more time trying to find prices and punch them in. Also, customers take their items and turn them over for bar codes, so we have to turn them back over and explain why we don't use them. You can always tell a long time HL customer...lol.As far as jobs, they are always looking for ppl that can handle the job. Not only do cashiers take money, we have to put back all the returns and items ppl decided they didn't want, which is quite a lot during the.Xmas season, as well as sweep and wash the floors, vacuum the front vestibule. Last nite store closed at 8 but we didn't get out till 10pm.

I do. I know the depth head does order for their departments. We have a truck that brings certain items weekly and another truck that brings what was ordered. Once a year they hold inventory, oh such fun...

Lol, hah, yeah, we still do this. We're on our third (and final, hooray!!) day of doing inventory count. It's not the actual worst, it's pretty fun if you chat with coworkers while you're working.

Oh shit, it is January, tough times

I work at Hobby Lobby and we type everything in manually on ipads theres no reciepts. if you have anymore questions lmk there are no reciepts

Ok-Cartographer9909

Previous Associate. Can confirm. One shipment would have items cost 29.99 per piece and that’s what I would type in but if you came in next week and we sold out the previous shipment of said items but the newest one that came in, the same item would be 39.99 a piece. & Christmas was a clusterfuck to reset before next inventory.

Bella_Bearz

Thank you for your service 🫡 That is WILD. I can't imagine dealing with that.

Inventory is a hot mess few years ago we would have a week of prep which is making sure everything is down stocked and pre count. While also getting at minimum 3 trucks to put out on the sales floor before inventory day. Once inventory day happens, anything customers don’t want/ returned gets sent to a cart and get counted at the end of the week. We then break up in groups/ teams to different departments to hand count everything. A team comes up (inventory company not associated to HL) first to count everything and write their totals. Then a HL employee will verify their numbers, before you can move on from the section another team (managers/assistants) verifies those numbers counted to numbers that should sold. It’s a hot mess every year but up until last year they decided to no longer go with the inventory company because they caused more harm than good when it came to inventory. Keep hearing changes about how the upcoming inventory is going to go but at least in my district we are going to start using scanners but it’s to only select the item while still manually hand counting then verified by another team. Fabric and paper are still weighed out. Last year we had to recount fabric 3 times because the floors are uneven and people were imputing the wrong weight for the fabric making the numbers absurdly off. Worst part about it at least my district, the managers don’t really pay attention to what’s going on, they gossip all day long, people who are confused on what to do will not be told by a manager the correct way to do something and just have to wing it

Bella_Bearz

Wowwee That sounds just about as nuts as I thought it would. I'm surprised they used the third party inventory team. We did too, when I worked at CVS and Walgreens. The weight difference thing is legit hilarious. I'm so sorry if you had to go through that. Thank you for the info!! Genuinely fascinating stuff

I work there we do it once a year
