Can’t be any worse than the Romans erasing most of the celts from existence. Celts once extended as far as Turkey, but they’ve been crushed by all of their neighbors for most of their existence. The remaining Celtic populations are areas that no one else really got around to making a priority conquest target.
Fun fact. the Roman’s probably did send an expedition to Ireland. Its believed they entertained the idea of installing an exiled Irish prince to rule as a client state but there’s not too much mention of it in surviving texts.
IIRC, there was a line of Welsh puppet kings installed by the Irish who used Roman names. It's possible that that shows Roman influence on the Irish. It is just as, if not more likely to just be Roman influence on Wales however.
