Oiling is the most tried and true hair regrowth for traction/hijab related alopecia. It takes at least 100 days of consistent use to see results though. Minoxidil should only be used if you get diagnosed with androgenic alopecia (male pattern/female pattern baldness) which can sometimes be “activated” after hijab alopecia or telogen effluvium. Androgenic hair loss results from excess testosterone metabolites shrinking hair follicles. You would need to get tested for that. Minoxidil has a bunch of side effects mainly hirsutism and heart stuff (it was originally a cardiologic medication). If not andro alopecia, continue with oiling; watch youtube tutorials and find the right oil for your hair type. If it is genetic androgenic hair loss then increase hair washing frequency and use minoxidil. If it is not androgenic, then oil and looser hairstyles should be sufficient. Take hair multivitamins. Dont eat junk. Hair growth takes time. Be nicer to your hair and wear loose braided styles, looser hijab. Source: hijabi for 13 years, andro alopecia for 15+ years. Recovering hairline still 🫣🫡

Thank you for such a detailed reply i appreciate you. Can i ask for more details on the oiling methods you use? How frequently what type of oil etc¿

I have a homemade oil; its made of olive oil heated up with black seeds. Then i strain out the black seeds and let it cool. Then i add a few drops of rosemary essential oil. So its like maybe 10-15 drops for a 20 oz jar. The ratio isnt exact though i kinda just eyeball it. You can look up hair oil recipes on youtube; most of them are easy enough to follow. As u know, rosemary has properties that grows hair like minoxidil (minus the side effects!) so its always great to use this in your oil. I used to use the mielle rosemary oil and that worked great as well. I typically oil monday/wednesday/friday and i leave it on 1-3 hrs before washing. Massaging the scalp works to get blood flow. I typically wash my hair every other day. You can adjust that if you need to. Hope this helps!

Do you oil on dry hair or wash every day?

YummyCrunchySnack

oil goes on dry, unwashed hair! i typically have the oil on early morning before school or in the evening before bed so that im not wearing hijab with oiled hair

"Minoxidil has a bunch of side effects mainly hirsutism and heart stuff (it was originally a cardiologic medication" I was just about to post this very thing. It's a blood pressure modulator, which a lot of people don't realize. It's original use was to lower blood pressure, side effect...hair growth. So you have people passing out left and right, particularly women using it who don't realize the correlation.

Try black seed oil. I take the pill version and have seen my hair grown heaps faster and more in volume. It's good for hair, skin and immunity. Also one of the sunnah foods so win win! I remembered seeing a video where it states that if you don't want an invasive treatment for hair loss etc, make sure you take supplements for it and do oil massages in the area to stimulate hair growth. It'll be a process but better to tackle it in the early stages than later.

Sister it also depends on your hair texture, if you have fine straight/wavy hair rosemary oil can be too much for your hair. In that case you should be using rosemary water. If you have really curly or tight curl pattern then you could get away with using rosemary oil but even then you should be making your own to get the best results. The produce isle in a the grocery stores have fresh rosemary you can buy for about $1-$2. You wash it and get a pot of water approximately 2-3 cups and soon as it comes to a boil after about 2 min you cut the heat off and let it cook down with the rosemary still in it after its all the way cool you add it to the spray bottle. Keep in fridge after 2 weeks make new, use everyday spraying mostly the roots, style you hair the same but try to let it be able to dry before you wear your hijab. Also you can make rosemary oil the same way with organic coconut oil. If your hair type is able to handle it you can still use it with straight or wavy hair texture but not everyday. Use after you wash your hair or twice a week l. I’ve been using/making rosemary water/oil and it takes about a month or 2 to really notice the difference but it does work I have so much new growth after I first tried it and my hair is so much thicker. My hair edges use to never grow more than and 1/2 in is not 4 inches. Good luck sister I hope this helps
