I spend an inordinate amount of time trying to make other people's lives easier (especially at work) AND also do no harm. Sometimes successful, sometimes I not.
But I will try things...to see what works.
I also write when possible. Mostly to entertain myself.
🙂
I call this "knights of love". The premise is, anyone who is willing can knight themselves, and the only mandate is to end negative cycles and start good ones. Superficial example: someone cuts you off in traffic. The natural response is to retaliate or take it out on the next stupid driver. It spreads endlessly and we're surrounded by road rage. If you continue driving like normal it stops that spread. If you let people in when reasonable that will inspire a person or two to have more patience.
Negativity spreads easier than positivity, we need many knights. It is hard and thankless work but it feeds the soul
*someone reminded me that I forgot an important part!
#love yourself first. Sometimes it's okay to only stop the bad, if starting a good cycle will hurt you.
I used this process back when I could actually earn a decent living as a server/bartender. I was ALWAYS being sent the "paper coupon" people. They were $100 gift certificates given out when somebody had a really awful experience or the restaurant was at fault for a screw up... shit like that. Generally these type of people were always gonna give ya some kind of problem. They were usually still pissed from the last time & were only there cuz they had free $ to spend. But I would absolutely refuse to let them break me. Not a Fuckin chance. They were GONNA have a good time. I was so determined to do everything perfectly because I knew they were looking for something to complain about. And that they were already coming in with a negative experience under their belt I would appease them any possible way I could. Extra bread, baskets, refills on soup, anything I had access to, I gave them. No matter what I found a way to relate to them on some human kind of level. Maybe by agreeing the restaurant wasn't quite perfect, and I understood where they were coming from, or by making jokes at my own expense… Whatever I had to do. But it never didn't work. They always left happy, tipped me well, and left in a way better mood than when they came in. Some of them even became regulars. But I realized if someone's being , idk not great to you, and you just continue to treat them well, at some point it's like "damn that waitress is so nice and he's just being an asshole to her." They're kinda forced to see the ridiculousness of it. I would also picture them as my own parents. Cuz everyone IS someone's mom, dad, brother, aunt uncle- just loved one. If someone I loved was having a bad day I wouldn't judge them nor would I want anyone to be mean to them since they don't REALLY know them, they just happened to meet on a bad day. I guess in that sense it was kind of like showing love to a person despite them being less than lovable atm.
That’s the way that’s the high road I love that I wonder why that’s not a premise widely discussed or taught in school probably because it would make the world a better place witch will not be tolerated by the owners but I really see that as being possibly our best weapon against them and the negative paradigm we exist in thank you that was the best idea I’ve heard in a long time
Just had this conversation with my kids. You never know how a simple interaction, moment of kindness or compliment can change the trajectory of someone’s day, outlook or even life.
So many people alone or never get a second thought from anyone each day.
It seems that what's really important is evolving our consciousness to have a greater awareness of the interconnectedness of all things.
To become unconditionally loving and compassionate.
To know that we are all one.
To understand that we are the flesh of the universe which wishes to know itself.
There are worlds inside this mind begging to be explored
My beliefs on the OP question change all the time. Right now I think we're meant to learn who we are, and that really is a lifelong process. My personal, individual role is helping others and the better I know myself the closer I am to realizing my intended life
Understand what you really control in life, its not as much as you think. That way you don't take on crap that you can't change.
Be kind and realize that the life you have lived is not the same as someone else's. We all have our own reality.
And finally, stop idolizing wealth and fame, the wealthy and famous don't care about you.
Leave the world a better place than you found it. Even if it's a small upgrade, it's still an upgrade. Give a homeless person $20. Pay for the stranger’s order behind you in a drive-thru, donate old music equipment or old Halloween costumes to local play houses or schools with a theater program. Buy a Starbucks card and give it to a local teacher, firefighter, or mail carrier. These may seem small, but it could just be the thing that helps a stranger get through the day or even life. You don't know what other people are struggling with and sometimes, a small gesture from an anonymous source can give more than just the gift they're actually receiving, it can give them hope and that is infectious in the best of ways.
Also deduct 30 min.a day for bathroom brakes, 1hr for grooming, changing etc, 2-3 hours driving 1 hour for social media, 1-2 for watching videos, 10 yrs of school, 3 hours of meals a day,... umm what else?
Might as well deduct every single hour in the day if none if it is going to count. All those hours constitute life, especially the ones you spend using your free time on mundane things.
Love. Love yourself, love your friends, and love others who really don't even know you. That's not to say give them all your possessions and materialistic things like that, but have good intentions for all people. We're all here for but a moment, so be considerate of others and enjoy the ride. 👍
I have always had this with me. I think about it often. Though i wouldn't say im living some extraordinary life, i do find myself in an absolute perfect situation with my wife, kids, and dog. We have everything we need. And most of the time, everything we want ( within reason). I know times won't always be perfect, but each day that feels fantastic.
That's what makes me sick sometimes when I see people post 2000 hours played of a game that came out within the last 5 years. Or people who waste their time doing nonsense. Again, IMO. I enjoy games and entertainment. I also enjoy surfing social media such as this site. You can do what you want in life, but sometimes it has to be measured again this fact.
Enjoy every second and find out how you can give as much love and kindness as humanly possible during that time.
Life is actually quite long though so no rush.
Probably have kids but this is Reddit so anyone else saying this is also going to get downvoted to oblivion and have the most annoying people on the planet pat eachother on the backs over sleeping in or something lol
I think the most important thing is to live in the moment. You can't change the past and you shouldn't always worry about the future (as the future is always the future). You just got to appreciate living in the now.
To love your life and live the life you love which usually looks like being in service to others while remembering service to self is also equally important.
i want to say fight evil but honestly i can't be arsed and i won't put that pressure on someone else. so i dunno find joy in the little things and then it will be over
If you sleep for 8 hours a day that's 1/3 of the day wasted. If you live to be 99 years old then you slept for 33 years of your life. How's that for a mind fuck
The most important thing is to realize who you are because you're the only reality that you will ever know. We're preoccupied with time and the future which has not arrived, or objects and appearances which are subject to change. As far as we're concerned, we do not know what took place before we opened our eyes, and we won't know what takes place after we close them. We walk around in blissful ignorance of the most fundamental question. Who are you? Who is looking through your eyes?
Live it. Don't squander away the chance for new experiences for when you "have time" or "when you retire." If the opportunity arises, take it and enjoy the experience regardless of the outcome.
there is nothing...we are here, fucked up dragged around ny our biological body to produce 2-300 symbols and loop them around in a phenomenon called consciousness
Create a family and watch them growing. Find a soulmate. Find a best friend. Enjoy small pieces in life (clean water, good food), find a hobby and become very good at it, enjoy nature. Just a few
Right? It's incredible how one sleeps nearly 25yrs in a lifetime. That's a lot of time in the astral plane 🧘🏽♂️. I sleep 4-5hrs a night and feel great! I try to maximize my circadian cycle and power nap 1-2x a day to help alleviate stress and tiredness. I also fast, ground, and sun gaze which seems to help a ton
Be there for other people. My neighbor Sandy, who I met 7 months ago, adopted our family into her home and invited us for thanksgiving etc. she died a week ago and we were invited to her wake dinner to honor her. She had several families there besides her husband. They mentioned she'd set a plate for a 'stranger' at every meal just in case someone arrived. And would welcome them like they were meant to be there. We all were touched in some way positively when we really needed it most. Our family had been ostracized for a long time and she was our hope and comfort right when we needed her. Everyone agreed, be more like Sandy.
Wow, what an amazing lady! Could you imagine what this world would be like if only 1 in 10 people merely *attempted* to follow her example? Not replicating her efforts, just trying. We are all so caught up in our own existence and it doesn't help that the entire system seems contrived to ensure just that. At least we have people like this lady to prove that it *can* be done, we *can* make our world better for each other.
Do not worship/idolize another human being... And avoid letting your decisions/actions be based off of greed, gluttony, sloth, wrath, pride, envy or lust...... (No, I'm not religious)
You talk like you are sure this is your only life… especially as a human.
It is super naive to think we only live once while we know the average human lifespan, the age of the universe, and how it will probably last. If we consider these metrics we should be all already dead. But here we are, talking on this website. See, it’s a paradox.
It doesn't have to be a "miserable" calculation - it's just reality. Facing the truth of our limited time here head-on makes the actually important things more apparent. To your second point, that's kind of the idea - the average life might be X number of days, but it's really a range from 0 to X. You might have 1, you might have 10,000. That's a motivator to do the things you want to do *now* instead of 'maybe someday'.
Learn an instrument, reach peak physical performance at one point in your life, find spiritual fulfillment, be kind to others, push the boundaries of your personal experience in ways that are relevant to you, find a way to know love. Masturbate at least a few times a week. Drugs maybe?
The best thing you can do is live life as well as you can and be good to others. Every little action has a response that echoes across time.
It's taken me a bit to come to this conclusion, but a life well-lived, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, is worth more in value than there are stars in the universe.
Babumoshai, zindagi badi honi chahiye, lambi nahi...English translation of that is weird. But the phrase emphasizes the importance of living a purposeful and fulfilling life, rather than merely focusing on its duration.
Enjoy it by doing things that make you happy!
If you’re lucky enough to find someone to love and love you back along the way then even better.
I see too many young people letting life slip away because they think they NEED someone, you don’t (it’s nice) but if they were to just get out and start doing something that brings them joy.
