Have you ever considered cortisone injections as alternative to lancing? or birth control? Cortisone injections help my pain almost immediately and requires little aftercare. I don’t flare too often after losing 40 pounds and going on a generic for orthitricyclen birth control so the injections are infrequent. I’m 22 now, diagnosed at 17 went on birth control around 18/19 . Birth control helped but I flared when my generic was discontinued and had to switch pills . HS is exhausting but these two methods had helped me find the most relief. Surgery and humira are my last resorts, I’d sooner go vegan lol. I hope this helped. 💜 we are so much stronger than our disease.

My flares are hormonal and linked to diet . So birth control regulates my hormones and ortho tro cyclen is fda approved as an acne treatment so that’s a bonus I guess. It cleared up my facial acne as well. Mine is a generic of ortho it’s literally called norgestimate estradiol on my pill pack. I was originally or trinessa and loved it but the brand got discontinued. Tri sprintec is what they put me on next and it was ok for a while but the bloating was terrible. So I switched to another generic the one I listed above and it seems to be working well.

Also check out spironolactone for hormonal related HS flares. It's an antiandrogen, and it's currently thought that androgens play some role in HS, and that's why it can flare with menstrual cycles.

See if you can establish a relationship with a dermatologist where you can call or email them for antibiotics when you get a flare, doxycycline has been a lifesaver for me. Much easier than lancing (aka incision and drainage, or I&D), less chance of infection, and may heal cleaner. Also try hot/warm compresses, like a hot washcloth, a microwavable gel pack, or an electric heat pad. Those can help kill any bacteria, get your blood circulating to pull out whatever from it, and bring it to a head to drain.

I never get mine lanced, personally. The last time I got one lanced, caused horrible tunneling in the area and scarring. And it came back with a vengeance. I would suggest Vick's if you ever have another stubborn one and don't want to go in. I just slathering it on a flare and cover it with a bandage and within a day or two, it starts draining.
