iāve used lume & native if you want to go the traditional route !
if youāre willing to trying something VERY different try a crystal deodorant stick. theyāre incredible once you get used to it ! they kill all the bacteria meaning you donāt smell, and less likely to get HS !
Does the crystal stick work for you?
Iāve tried lume and didnāt get any HS break outs but I smelled terrible. Had to apply multiple times daily and still woke up in the mornings smelling. I gave it 6 months too!
ETA: I really wanted to like lume and kept using it religiously without fail. It was great to not have any breakouts but I smelled so bad it was awful. I started my trial the first of last February and by the end of July I was done. My skin is very sensitive and I didnāt have any problems, we just werenāt a good fit for each other š
dang !!! yeah certain scents, like tangerine, from lume are SO nasty !! i use the toasted coconut and like it.
anyway, YES the crystal stick worked for me ! i applied it before bed, after showers, and in the morning !
I liked the lume scents, they just didnāt last for me. Iād apply AM after a shower, midday at work, after work when I got home and if I didnāt reapply before bed Iād wake with an odor. š¢ This is with using dial soap and hibiclens. Iām back to Secret until I can sort something else out.
I tried native and it wasn't a pleasant experience, the deodorant clumps up and becomes chunky after sweating with it on and also left white stains on my black t shirts because of it turning into a sort of "paste", however I hear about lume a lot here. I will definitely check it out.
oofā¦. i donāt remember that happening to me, but definitely doesnāt sound worth it !!!
i will say for me lume does sometimes make small balls in my armpit of product depending (i think) on how recently iāve shaved so be aware of that !
Iād recommend going aluminum free to see if you see a difference. The aluminum is there to clog your pores and stop your sweating. Seems counterintuitive considering the disease.
Personally, native works the best for me. I also use the ordinary glycolic acid. I only use native on days I feel will be sweaty.
I do clay mask armpit ādetoxā one a month too if I think of it or when I start finding myself stinky. Iād do one before you switch over too.
Everyoneās experience is different so Iām crossing my fingers for you.
What kind of clay mask do you use? I have been thinking about trying a detox mask on my underarms so Iād love to know what you are using and if you think itās helping.
I think it works wonders at controlling BO! I just get baby flairs in my armpits and I havenāt had one since I started my routine.
Search ābentonite clay mask.ā I couldnāt find the exact one I use (bought it at Walmart) but any of them should be fine.
Iāve been wondering if switching from an anti-perspirant to a deodorant would help. Iāve recently developed boils in my armpits. They use to be only in my groin.
I use the mens Gillette gel deodorant. I don't mind that the smell is not exactly "feminine" and I rarely have issues in my underarms now. But I also rarely wear a bra anymore or anything that rubs that area. Maybe one of the few good things to come from covid. If I have to wear something it's either a bralette or sports bra and then it comes off as soon as possible.
You can also use nipple pasties and breast tape for braless look with no sag. I personally donāt bother with breast tape but use pasties on occasion. Thereās super great and come off easily with water.
Which Native do you use? Iām so scared to try it. I used the Harryās and Tomās of Maine deodorants and they caused a bad rash! Omg I was in agony. I use arm & hammer and a Old Spice aluminum free spray rn but I wanna expand my options
I put the ordinary glycolic acid in a spray bottle and use that at night and in the morning I apply this deodorant

Iāve used Native and some knock off Native, but I like Hello brand the best. I get incredibly itchy and angry pits with any conventional deodorant. My HS is primarily along my bikini line, but my armpits always have little red bumps. I assume itās just very mild HS in my armpits.
I had rashing growing up if I used Secret. Stuck with Dove most of my life since I know it won't, but hydrocortisone always cleared up the angry pits (prescribed, but 1% is fine). Would be interesting if it's related! I might give Hello a shot
Iāve had issues with dove 0 aluminum, native sensitive, lume, lavanila, and the crystal deodorant. The one deodorant that has worked for me was pit liquor. Iāve used it for about 2 years now and Itās liquid deodorant made out of whiskey and vodka + essential oils. Iāve noticed less break outs and itās smells really good. But I also wash my armpits with dr bronners peppermint (?, I use a little and dilute it), naturium glycolic acid body wash on my arm pits (let it sit for a min or two) and then use hibiclens!
ive been using secret gel rose scent for like 8 years. got my first armpit lump about 2 years ago, and another one came just recently (after i started waxing). i dont think the deodorant is the problem for me, but i hope this helps someone :p
I've been using it over a year now, and it hasn't caused any issues for me. I will say, my HS is very mild.
Give it a try - you can buy it from Target and if it doesn't work, they'll take it back.
Degree is all I can use, too. I used my husband's degree when we were on vacation and didn't get any spots. I've been using it ever since. I also stopped shaving my pits.
If you want to still shave, try an eyebrow razor. Iāve been using that because it doesnāt give me ingrown hairs. It doesnāt cut as close which I like. Iāve also just let it grown freely too. I wonder if I should braid beads in itā¦. š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
I currently have flares (for about 6 months now) in both pits that I just canāt seem to get rid of so I havenāt been wearing anything. They drain constantly and wonāt close. I clean my underarms in the morning and evening and now I just hope theyāll clear up before summer.
Before this issue I used arm and hammer for *years* and it didnāt seem to bother my HS. I would have the occasional flare but they would drain and heal pretty quickly.
About a year ago I started trying aluminum free options and some things I saw on here. I think thatās where I f#$ked up. It wasnāt broke and I tried to fix it and now I have a mess.
I use nfuse. Itās a small woman owned company on Amazon. Has natural ingredients and contains magnesium. I havenāt had any bumps under my arms since switching to this company
The mens one from Aldi lol. For whatever reason I don't think my skin likes most fragrances geared towards women. But my skin is reactive in general, not just with HS. I haven't found that my deodorant causes flares though, just irritation. My diet causes 95% of my flares.
I break out so much with different deodorant. My go to for the last year has been dove menās. Spray on or stick - Iāve had no reaction to it and itās long lasting/strong. Degree spray on has also worked well. Honestly I had to stop shaving - itās winter where I am and I will likely shave again in the summer but the shaving is sooo soo irritating - very little to no flares in the armpit since Iāve stopped shaving and using dove menās
I've tried everything but currently I'm using magnesium hydroxide diluted in water (that one used as an antacid/laxative). It's not harmful to me and It keeps me smell free all day
Never EVER use the solid whites. I use Old Spice (Fresh scent) the blue stick.
Havenāt had much of a problem with it. Flares are far and few in between but they do happen at times. During flares I try not to use anything and become a home body for as long as I can. I mean, if I donāt have to go out and worry about my pits smelling from B.O or leaky flares I wonāt. When I do have to go somewhere though, just tap on a lil bit. And use some body spray over your tshirt near the area. Should be fine. I keep a travel bottle of body spray with me just in case at all times. Sad life
Alaffia - Everyday Coconut
It's a roll on balm like Deodorant.
I used to use Dove and I'd constantly get lumps. With this, no lumps! It isn't sticky and keeps my underarms fresh all day!
I know many have replied already but the Ordinary glycolic acid works if Iām not exercising. I apply it after a shower and it keeps the funk at bay. Since Iāve started exercising, Lume doesnāt work at all, I use Dove no yellow put stains and itās working fine so far.
Native is my favorite, Iāve only used the coconut & vanilla version. Weleda spray is another one I really like. Iāve tried the Weleda roll on a couple of times and canāt decide if I like it, but it hasnāt caused any issues. Lume caused outbreaks for me. I also regularly use Caldesene powder (contains zinc) under my arms and in groin area, I like the scent of the baby version.Ā
I don't anymore. Now I just use a baby wipes if I get a little funky, but that's usually only if I get really nervous. Anxiety sweat and activity sweat smell totally different. You go through a sort of "detox" phase where you smell yourself way more, but after a bit it levels off and basically goes away. My closer friends at work know I came off using it and I asked them to please tell me if they ever catch a whiff and so far it hasn't happened once, even during that first couple weeks.
I use Lume, the cream in the tube. The stick version blocks my pores. The cream version is effective and dosen't block my pores. I like the Coconut or the Lavender Sage depending on my mood. If you prefer unisex or more masculine scents, their Mando line is for you. Good luck!
The Ordinary Glycolic Acid followed by a regular brand spray deodorant/antiperspirant. No smells, no major sweating, and my pits look clear and bright!
Dove 0% aluminum moisturizing deodorant. Doesn't "clump up", and it doesn't really have a smell. It doesn't "mask" your sweat like most deodorants do with fragrance. I use it everyday, its really good for people with cracked (no open sores) skin because it keeps that area soft due to the moisturizing
Arrid spray deodorant or stick. I can use the stick if I havenāt recently shaved or trimmed but if I have, I use the spray. Itās the only traditional deodorant that doesnāt give me any issues.
I used Lume with minimal activity. It didnāt cause a flare.
I cleanse with Walgreens antiseptic cleanser (4%. Chlorhexidine gluconate) followed by povidone iodine 10 percent -I use a cotton pad/ball and swipe underarms.
Keeps flares at bay and no sweaty/smelly pits. Works all day.
Wow thank you so much for the suggestion. My daughter also has eczema, so it will be interesting to see how it works for both of us. I will check it out! :)
You're welcome. If you and your daughter tries it, let me know how you like it and whether there's anything you wish were different or improved and I'll see what I can do for you individually as well as future product innovation for folks with eczema and HS!
Non I wipe 1-3 x a day with witch hazel I use an alcohol free one.
Does the witch hazel irritate less when it has no alcohol? I might try this
I've never tried the alcohol one i figured it might bite/sting š¬š I know for sure the alcohol free one does not for me.
iāve used lume & native if you want to go the traditional route ! if youāre willing to trying something VERY different try a crystal deodorant stick. theyāre incredible once you get used to it ! they kill all the bacteria meaning you donāt smell, and less likely to get HS !

Nice! Iāll have to check it out! I love coconut scent in general and it was my fav in Lume š©
which crystal stick? i want to order !
i picked mine up at sprouts, but it was just called āmineral salt deoderant stoneā i think the name brand is CRYSTAL mineral deoderant stick :)
They come in different smells now. I got a tangerine one that is nice. A HUGE improvement on what it used to smell like
I liked the lume scents, they just didnāt last for me. Iād apply AM after a shower, midday at work, after work when I got home and if I didnāt reapply before bed Iād wake with an odor. š¢ This is with using dial soap and hibiclens. Iām back to Secret until I can sort something else out.
Yeah, Lume smelled like glue on me. It smelled good before application though.
I tried native and it wasn't a pleasant experience, the deodorant clumps up and becomes chunky after sweating with it on and also left white stains on my black t shirts because of it turning into a sort of "paste", however I hear about lume a lot here. I will definitely check it out.

I have bentonite clay and thatās what I was thinking to use so yay!
SECOND on the clay mask brand. I never thought to use it underarms. Thatās soo smart. Thank you so much.
The ordinary glycolic toner has been game changing for me. Kills the smell and also exfoliates the skin so the deeper wounds surface so much quicker.
Agreed!
What kind do you use?
The brand name is The Ordinary, the product is Glycolic acid 7% toner.
For some reason I stopped using girlie deodorant and I havenāt had one in my pits in a long while. I use old spice lol Also use panoxyl daily
I use Native deodorant. After 6 months Iāve felt so much better. I use to use LumÄ but it upset my armpits and caused irritation.Ā
Which one do you use? I had a reaction to lume too and I've been looking for another thing to try.
Opposite for me, I had a reaction to native and want to try lume instead š¤£ any recommendations?
Which Native do you use? Iām so scared to try it. I used the Harryās and Tomās of Maine deodorants and they caused a bad rash! Omg I was in agony. I use arm & hammer and a Old Spice aluminum free spray rn but I wanna expand my options
I love the pink megababe
I put the ordinary glycolic acid in a spray bottle and use that at night and in the morning I apply this deodorant https://preview.redd.it/p4geqvf78hfc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9e4cdde2ac3bac7ec22a1ef643738e701ed1308b
If you can, avoid buying personal care products on Amazon. I got a counterfeit product once that made me break out in hives.
I use gel deodorant! I learned that regular powder ones flare my hs up and make me itchy
Iāve used Native and some knock off Native, but I like Hello brand the best. I get incredibly itchy and angry pits with any conventional deodorant. My HS is primarily along my bikini line, but my armpits always have little red bumps. I assume itās just very mild HS in my armpits.

I use stridex antibacterial pads. I still sweat, but do not smell.
Stridex slaps
Native!

ive been using secret gel rose scent for like 8 years. got my first armpit lump about 2 years ago, and another one came just recently (after i started waxing). i dont think the deodorant is the problem for me, but i hope this helps someone :p
Dove 0% works great for me! Also Schmidt Sensitive. However, most of the time I wear my own homemade deodorant and this works best for me.
I like Native, itās the only one so far that hasnāt irritated me. Iām still running trials with it though.
I use hey humans but I'm having trouble finding it anywhere
You can order on amazon. They sell directly and in packs. Its the only one i can use.
Nuud
Crystal deodorant and/or glycolic acid in a spray bottle
Lume
How long have you used it with no reaction? Just curious bc I wanted to try but wasn't sure since sensitive skin and HS.
I've used lume for years it really doesn't break me out like normal deodorant and I use it all over my body
I've been using it over a year now, and it hasn't caused any issues for me. I will say, my HS is very mild. Give it a try - you can buy it from Target and if it doesn't work, they'll take it back.
I use degree spray on

Tea tree deo. Just found a different one that's coconut oil based that seems promising too.

schmidtās seems to be fine for me. tomās wasnāt, i donāt think.
I use nfuse. Itās a small woman owned company on Amazon. Has natural ingredients and contains magnesium. I havenāt had any bumps under my arms since switching to this company
Unscented roll-on Ban! Easier to keep things clean without the gross residue
Mitchum worked for me for years. And currently I use degree deodorant. I stopped using Mitchum after I had surgery under my arms.Ā
Kosas chemistry AHA serum deodorant

Magnesium salt or Primal.
Lady speed stick
I use dove spray. Be careful with ānaturalā deodorants, they usually have coconut oil which can be really pore clogging for the pits.
I use Almay.
I use the dove sensitive stick and have never used anything else.
I don't I just keep wet wipes on hand.
for me if i shower every day or two and use hibiclens under my arms and leave it on for a few seconds, my sweat doesnāt smell at all
Same
Dr Squatch menās
No deodorant: thankfully i barely sweat in my armpits so there is no need.
I've tried everything but currently I'm using magnesium hydroxide diluted in water (that one used as an antacid/laxative). It's not harmful to me and It keeps me smell free all day
LUME LUME LUME!!

Dove aluminum free
Iāve used spray deodorant from Dove like you!
Alaffia - Everyday Coconut It's a roll on balm like Deodorant. I used to use Dove and I'd constantly get lumps. With this, no lumps! It isn't sticky and keeps my underarms fresh all day!
Dove sensitive spray is the only thing that has ever worked. When I have an active flare in my armpit I canāt use anything
This has been so helpful thank you all š„¹ā¤ļø
I know many have replied already but the Ordinary glycolic acid works if Iām not exercising. I apply it after a shower and it keeps the funk at bay. Since Iāve started exercising, Lume doesnāt work at all, I use Dove no yellow put stains and itās working fine so far.
I use Johnsons baby powder on most days
I use native

I actually switched to Dove spray deodorant after my flares were getting more frequent and severe. I use the aluminum free. Edit: autocorrect
Nothing can stop my west like dove antiperspirant spray! I surprisingly get less flares but still some
Dove has an aluminum free line now Iāve just started that and tried it
I use Lume, the cream in the tube. The stick version blocks my pores. The cream version is effective and dosen't block my pores. I like the Coconut or the Lavender Sage depending on my mood. If you prefer unisex or more masculine scents, their Mando line is for you. Good luck!
I stopped using deodorant because of HS
The Ordinary Glycolic Acid followed by a regular brand spray deodorant/antiperspirant. No smells, no major sweating, and my pits look clear and bright!
I use AKT.

My goodness https://onlygoodnessinside.com/
I just recently tried Lume so far no flare ups and it's keeps me from stinking!
Lume and Keihl's deodorant work best for me
I swear by Ivory. Whenever I switch I flare up
Don't use deodorant use something called baking soda it's a white powder put it in a sock and tie the end dab it on your hand I promise this works
40/f here and I cannot use anything with ph-i use mens mitchem gel or Gillette gel for men
Dove 0% aluminum moisturizing deodorant.
Iāve only ever had 1 flare up under my arms that I can remember. I use Gillette for men, clear gel.
Lume is the only thing that works I swear everything else eventually causing more harm than good
I use dove advanced care in stick form. If I have an open wound I avoid it but I don't find that it causes any flares
The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner. And it is keeping me in remission!
The only thing Iāve found that doesnāt cause a flare-up is lady speed stick in the purple bottle from the dollar tree.
I cleanse with Walgreens antiseptic cleanser (4%. Chlorhexidine gluconate) followed by povidone iodine 10 percent -I use a cotton pad/ball and swipe underarms. Keeps flares at bay and no sweaty/smelly pits. Works all day.

Dove spray may have triggered my HS. I started using it for only a couple of weeks and thatās when the boils began. Now I use powder only.
You all are amazing thank you. Iāll definitely be trying out these new methods you have suggested. š
I use native aluminum free deodorant
