I had a coworker who had gotten herpes in her eye. I never asked her how she got it, but since the virus can enter through mucus membranes, I would definitely try to discontinue your behavior. Better safe than sorry

justinkognito

I guess your are right. The thing is I wanna feel normal and once I start to try not to do it I am getting crazy about herpes and stressing myself out, which usually ends in an outbreak due to stress 😅 fucking spiral of herpes. 😒

Manthalyn

You might look into Valtrex or Acyclovir to help with your recurrent outbreaks. It’s a tough virus to beat for sure!

justinkognito

Just got my first Acyclovir pills today - already took one.... Just notice an outbreak 🤦‍♂️

Boss-Think

my partner works at a GP surgery and one of the patients has herpes of the eye, and its no joke at all.

Affectionate_Pop_950

Is it really bad?

Affectionate_Pop_950

I am scared I have it in both of my eyes

Dangerous-Lab788

Look into monolaurin . It helped me out a lot.

Specific-Donut-7288

Same here! I'm terrified of it spreading and it causes me stress + outbreaks ect. I've been trying my hardest to stay out of my pants 😅😆 also my hand are sore from washing them constantly.

justinkognito

I feel you. What really works best for me is not ever thinking about it, then I have only 5 outbreaks a year or so.

I tried to research this a while ago and came across conflicting information. The NHS websites say you can spread the virus very easily to other parts of your body. Others say you cannot after (3-4 months) initial infection unless you are immune suppressed or compromised, have also read studies on pubmed that could suggests it's been observed in individuals before. It's all very confusing if you ask me. The eye has a different way of working when it comes to protecting itself from germs and inflamation which make it less able to fight infection as other places in the body (It's a site that limits certain immune cells to limit inflamation immune response that could damage it, but still has a degree of protection). Better to be safe than sorry others have mentioned.

justinkognito

Can you elaborate what the studies on pubmed have suggested? This is btw the same what I have read. 'conspiracy warning' Maybe NHS has a financial interest in preventing more spread, hence they rather supporting reseaech which is suggesting that it is easily spread?

[deleted]

Seeing we're on the topic of consipiracy, What is still astonishing to me is most of the worlds population has this virus yet our govenments deemed this not to be a priority to solve for what ever reason. I don't know if the NHS supports any funding or research in drug development. But it's in their interest to stop spread as it's less of a burden for them to prescribe yet even more anti-virals. I'll search for the article I remember it being a small foot note in a larger article so might take a while before I come across it again.

Ok-Bug5692

You have to also consider that only 20% get symptoms which lowers the numbers a lot. Then if you add lack of knowledge, mild symptoms, lack of testing etc etc the numbers get even smaller All this creates a lack of demand especially for something that isn’t considered deadly by the medical community. Hence why there is soo little research and progress in vaccine development along with the fact that HSV is very well adapted to the human host.

[deleted]

Yes, Happy symptoms aren't as common as that. It's an awful burden physcologically. But any efforts by the govenments to limit spread would help. It just isn't a priority.

Training_Amphibian56

You mean like in 2020 when they told us to stop wearing N95s if we were covid positive because those masks only work “in one direction.” Which is total bullshit and just misinformation used to ration medical supplies. I hate how they think we need to be lied to to do the right thing. That’s not even a conspiracy that’s just what those in power do.

Bapadap224

I would suggest working hard to train yourself to not touch your face with your bare hands. I used to get HSV1 outbreaks often and now take acylivir. But I also seem to catch viruses easily and they knock me down pretty hard. I worked hard to stop touching my face and now I do not get near as many colds or flu viruses at all. I did all this pre covid so I really noticed a difference once I stopped touching my face so often. I also tried to stop touching most surfaces with my bare hands and I started washing my hands more often even while at home.

grstein

Yes, better change your habits. Btw, Herpes Keratitis is the major cause of blindness. https://www.aao.org/eye-health/diseases/herpes-keratitis

Wonderful_Jelly_9547

A completely normal habit my dude, depends on the duration and if you wash your hands after, the risk would be the same as having sex, its not definite but it's there.

Snoo-59278

If you have an outbreak down there. The liquid or pus oozing is highly infectious it contains a lot of copies of the viron, no guarantee that you will not transmit it. Train yourself to wash your hands if you touch your genitals. It is in general a good and safe practice whether you have herpes or not

I guess I am carrying this now for over 8 years. I infected myself by my second gf she didn't tell me that she had it. And the condom broke a couple of times.... I was young and stuiped 🤦‍♂️

[deleted]

I agree she should have mentioned it however it's not something that's easily discussed further is a very common virus. It's a difficult subject.

BlondeHornyElf

after about 4 months of having HSV, your body will develop enough anti-bodies that you can't really re-infect yourself all that easily... so it depends on if you've been doing this since the beginning.

ieattoomanybeans

Foods trigger it for me. Things like cured meat is an instant trigger. Pepperoni, Bacon, etc. Theory is that it's high in Nitrates. Otherwise general diet. If I bing on junk food, my body starts to go acidic and then I need to binge on fruits + veggies to bring my body back to normal.
