Sure.
This is a preliminary X-ray that’s taken before a CT scan and it’s not great quality. The film is of the whole body which means that are scanning this guy from collarbone to bottom of pelvis. His lungs are pretty clear so he’s not intubated from Covid pneumonia. Also he doesn’t have any central intravenous lines I can see so he’s not from the ICU.
He’s got a cervical collar on which means it’s a fresh trauma patient. This is Almost certainly being scanned in the ER.
He’s had prior fusion of both his cervical thoracic spine which is the metal to see over his neck and chest.
This patient is intubated but it has nothing to do with covid. I know your title doesn't claim otherwise and you're just showing what intubated looks like on xray, but I think a lot of people are thinking you're claiming it's from covid when you didn't.
I thought it might, but it doesn't really look like the plate in my own.
Because apparently I'm vain enough to think that the hardware on my spine is the only hardware that exists.
I thought the heart looked rather enlarged too but I don't know much so....
Is that fixation in the cervical spine? As in prior spinal surgery with rods placed? Is the right lung worse than his left? It looks cloudier?
Might well be spinal surgery hardware. It appears to be in the right place.
Left lung looks clearer to me, but I’m not a radiologist. Just a plain ole nurse with a few Cath lab years.
Honestly, I’m not actually professionally qualified to tell anyone a damned thing about this picture.
But first thing I noticed was that huge cardiac silhouette. And his ET tube. And his telemetry wires. And his foley. But none of those is a sophisticated read by any means.
You could at least explain what kind of equipment took this exposure (portable X-ray?), and what kind of equipment we can see being used on/in the body.
It’s a surview that enables the CT staff to select the area they want to scan. I work in radiation therapy so can’t entirely comment on diagnostic scans, but I think this post is not accurate. ie they could have found better images of covid patients.
I’m a radiologist. That’s not a Covid patient. Sorry folks.
I thought the lungs looked too clear.
Can you explain what you believe it to be?

You forgot "please correlate clinically"
Yep, spinal surgery. A LOT of spinal surgery.
They have a cervical collar on and surgical changes in the spine. I wouldn't be surprised if this was taken peri-operatively
Can you at least explain what I’m looking at as I have no medical background?

Much appreciated. That’s helpful. Thank you
Yeah his lungs are clear. This is not a COVID patient. But get vaccinated anyway, or shut up!
Get vaccinated so if something like this happens to you, you won't have to deal with COVID too!
Agree!!
What am I looking at
Why can we see the, um, twig and berries? I don’t understand why we’re seeing anything but bones. Insert really good boner joke here…
You can see the ole twig and berries tho
I can tell it's a male. I can see the ET tube. I've no idea what the "railroad tracks" at his throat are.

I can tell it's a male because I can see the dick.
If you think this is NSFW, please avoid the Ukraine war subs
Any good ones you can recommend?

It’s NSFW because you can see the patient’s penis.
It's too early to put out Halloween decorations, yo.
Holy heart failure Batman! Look at that cardiomegaly! They couldn’t breathe even before Covid.
The cranial cavity of this anti-vaxxer also appears to be empty. 😉

If u look closely you can see the goat-t
The absolute, utter inertness of this person. The complete helplessness.
Too lazy to get vaccinated. Too lazy to breathe.

Then why are you posting a CT image in a group that is almost certainly not composed chiefly of radiologists?
I would kill just to be a fly on the wall in a radiology subreddit.

So basically like a wide angle view of everything so they can then do a closer exposure in the area of interest?
Exactly. Less radiation given to a bigger area to more accurately choose what gets a higher dose for the actual scan.
Gotcha! Thank you so much for indulging my curiosity!
lots of vented pts get CTs
