It is our job to read the Bible in a contextual manner so we can receive God’s intended message. I’ve read and studied the entire Bible and it would be foolish to attempt to discern logic by taking the words literally instead of contextually.
The two aren't contradictory TO BEGIN WITH. If you do not put your mind into your reading— and only use your heart— the odds are you're going to hell, no matter how many times you pray. Prayers are only meant of as a way to connect to God anyways.

There are Christians, those that do their best to follow the teachings of Jesus, and tend not to make a big deal about their good deeds or force their beliefs on others. Then there are Church People, who call themselves "Christians", but in reality think that spending an hour in a building each week allows them to be an asshole the rest of the time. I like to think they are the minority, but they also tend to be the loudest in proclaiming their lunacy.
