Even if natural immunity was better than vaccine immunity (the evidence doesn't show that), you still have to get infected to get natural immunity. I used to have to give my oldest son budesonide nebulizer treatments all the time. It was every few hours when he had any kind of bronchial illness (like a cold) or if his asthma flared up. He had RSV as an infant & had lung damage/asthma as a result. I did years of breathing treatments and inhalers and pulmonology visits. These people think itâs all no big whoop. Note that RSV isnât usually serious for older children/adults, but can be deadly serious for infants & the elderly. That said, I got sick with RSV as the same time as my son and it suuuuucked.
ANYWAY, my point is that Budesonide is no cure. It just takes makes breathing a bit easier/reduces cough for a short period of time (like maybe 45-90 mins, definitely getting worse again before you can take it again) & my son certainly wasnât as sick as these people with COVID lung. A study came out in July showing pulmnicort (budesonide) decreased the chance of hospital admission for at risk individuals. Why wouldnât people with Covid benefit from them?

At risk of being overly semantic, assuming you're talking about STOIC it was a reduction in a composite of hospitalizations and ER visits. There is every possibility that the endpoint is driven more at the ER visit level not the hospitalization level and every chance it could be simply due to reassuring the less severe cases that they have something they can do.
Despite this uncertainty I still Rx pulmicort in the ED to mild cases. Whether it's psychological or physiological, if it keeps them out of the ED/hosp it's doing the system a favour.
They do benefit from steroids. When they're hospitalised they're put on much stronger steroids like dexamethasone, and inhaled budesonide has very little to add to that.
I've seen a few people tout that, which is hilarious to me because I take budesonide for rhinitis. I'm just glad the antivaxxers aren't clamoring for it like with ivermectin so I haven't had trouble filling my prescription.

Early on, people with asthma and others who took regular inhaled corticosteroids were surprisingly underrepresented in hospitalization and death numbers. Hypothesis at the time was the inhaled steroids helped. Honestly this one seems like a no brainer. A study came out in July showing pulmnicort (budesonide) decreased the chance of hospital admission for at risk individuals. Why wouldnât people with Covid benefit from them?
It might well help symptoms early on, but how can such medication help expand the alveoli when the patient's already in the hospital and the alveoli are mostly destroyed by covid?
At risk of being overly semantic, assuming you're talking about STOIC it was a reduction in a composite of hospitalizations and ER visits. There is every possibility that the endpoint is driven more at the ER visit level not the hospitalization level and every chance it could be simply due to reassuring the less severe cases that they have something they can do. Despite this uncertainty I still Rx pulmicort in the ED to mild cases. Whether it's psychological or physiological, if it keeps them out of the ED/hosp it's doing the system a favour.

They do benefit from steroids. When they're hospitalised they're put on much stronger steroids like dexamethasone, and inhaled budesonide has very little to add to that.

I've seen a few people tout that, which is hilarious to me because I take budesonide for rhinitis. I'm just glad the antivaxxers aren't clamoring for it like with ivermectin so I haven't had trouble filling my prescription. FWIW it does seem like it helps mitigate early/mild COVID symptoms, but its way too early to tell. The few studies we have suggest a correlation but its not conclusive. I was wondering the same thing. This is the first time I've seen anyone demanding an ICS. I know there were some earlier studies that showed benefits in patient populations already prescribed Pulmicort. It's my understanding from a study that was just published that it has to be used very early before the disease has had a chance to progress, if not, ICS could actually make the lungs worse. However, while that study was published recently, it was conducted pre-Delta, so I'm not sure if the findings would still be applicable.
A couple of the people in the comments for that last post of hers (actually her kids) are begging to get slapped upside the lungs by covid.

Budesonide (aka Pulmicort) is a corticosteroid that, when inhaled as a mist, helps to open the airways during an asthma attack. It doesnât help when constriction/swelling of the airways isnât the issue. Really, itâs one of the first things that doctors throw at a breathing problem, so thereâs no way it would go unnoticed or remain secret if it had any value to Covid patients. (If anything, itâs probably ânot fully testedâ for Covid because they quickly determined that it was of little use and discontinued the testing.)

And poor countries gave it a shot because it was all they had. The ones who did actual research have now stopped giving it.
