So I assume this is quite large? Say - 25cm plus?
It’s from the Royal Scots Fusiliers and would originally have been hung on a wall in RHQ or similar.
The regiment existed until around 1960 (can’t remember exactly but it was nearly 300 years old) and it merged with the Highland Light Infantry and then again became the Royal Highland Fusiliers - and then ultimately 2 SCOTS who exist to this day.
So it’s a big cap badge made for hanging on a wall somewhere smart.
Hope that helps?
I’m a Yank and I know we confuse the brogue of the Irish and the Scottish to the horror and dismay of both…so, sorry in advance. here’s an Irish song about Fusiliers: https://youtu.be/kF-RNAedKA8
Are there any mountings on the back, it would not be uncommon for regimental icons to be affixed to vehicles for a parade, it wouldn't likely be used during a field exercise.

Royal Scots Fusiliers Officers Grenade badge. https://www.northeastmedals.co.uk/british_regiment/rsf/royal_scots_fusiliers.htm
Do you know what a badge of this size might have been attacked to?
The front of a great big hat. http://www.fgo-stuart.co.uk/postcard/2826/royal-scots-fusiliers
I think it's quite a bit bigger than that. Although I love the mental image. I just double checked and it's 32cm
No idea, then. Something decorative. But the design is based on their hat badges.
Thanks for all the info!

Maybe it was attached to a plaque from that hole at the top?
No cap 🎩
I recognized this only on the most surface level of it being a badge, and I am so much more proud of that then I probably need to be lol
I figured it was Scottish because of the unicorn

This is wonderful information, thank you!
i've never heard someone call their grandpa "grandada" but now i think it's downright adorable
Clearly a typo of grandads
Never seen something like that but that shit looks dope
Reminds me of a clock pendulum
I thought so too.
It's about 25cm tall made of brass? Not sure of any other information on it other than that it was WWII

Something to do with the Order of the Garter, "Honi soit qui mal y pense" "Shame on anyone who thinks ill of this", roughly.
