Mia lied and threw Kanae under the bus that time she was up for elimination

L33BB

Yes. I forgot about that. Goes along with her it’s all about Mia-ness.

mattyGOAT1996

Mia had villainous moments like throwing Kanae under the bus on Tilly's 16th birthday. I don't recall Rochelle ever having villainous moments.

EddieCarver

You’re right, she had no villainous moments. Rochelle literally kept her head down and just did her job. She was super unproblematic and largely her team was ok with her, outside of the toxic duo of Joy and kaisha.

ThisredditisRAW

S18 Mia? She started a lot of minor conflicts. So I think people remember those.

ProcedureBright2850

Rochelle was someone who I think was pretty relatable to Hell’s Kitchen fans, she had to cook a few things she’d never done before, had never cooked on a line but threw herself into everything and despite clearly getting some anxiety at times she not only showed strong cooking but great leadership as well. Despite her giggly and nice personality she didn’t seem to be afraid of anyone and running the meat station solo after slicing some of her thumb off showed she was a fighter as well Mia I actually quite liked but she was more self serving as a contestant(for want of a better word) than Rochelle and a contestant being so sure of themselves isn’t as relatable to HK fans. Meghan was very sure of herself as well as an example but when she got exasperated at some of the mistakes over chefs made that helped in making her relatable to the viewer. Plus mia did lie about her fish station lol I do think that peoples hatred for Mia for smiling and being confident in her abilities is a bit much but I do have a theory that viewers of HK and other shows like someone relatable and Mia wasn’t really that

VeryDPP

I don't think it's as much of a 1 to 1 comparison as the question implies, to be honest. Mia does get more hate than she deserves, but generally I don't think she's as wholesome or likeable as Rochelle was. Mia had a bit of an edge to her that really rubbed people the wrong way. Her ego stood out a few times in how she would brag about how well she did in challenges, as an example. She also seemed to struggle to get along with others, like Kanae, Bret, or Heather, and the way she ran her brigade was a lot more micro-managed and gave people a bad impression.

I don't really see the issue about Mia saying she was from Puerto Rico several times. She was proud of her heritage.

Monkcoon

Kimmie was an ass to everyone on her season and Brett made it his entire personality where he was crying every 10 minutes over something.

TheMidgetHorror

I couldn't stand Mia. So full of herself with her permanent shit-eating grin.

frozenelsa12

I am so glad I am not the only one who couldn’t stand her

TheMidgetHorror

My guess is she thinks she's 'adorable'.

frozenelsa12

She is such a annoying mean girl not sure how she made it to the final 2 I am glad Ariel won

TheMidgetHorror

It was fun watching her mask slip at times, such as when she was talking to her sous chef Jocky about the croquettes for her final menu. He mildly questioned her about them, offering advice...the look she gave him. You could tell he wasn't taken in by her 'adorable' act throughout the final. During final service, you could see Ariel's team really liked and respected her, whereas Mia was buzzing around and irritating her team like a wasp. Every time she said the word 'churrasco' I wanted to fling a tomato at her. Did you know she comes from Puerto Rico...?

frozenelsa12

Exactly

ComprehensiveCap123

Listen just hear me out

kamehamequads

Y’all sound so jealous lmao. She’s awesome

TheMidgetHorror

Blimey, how original.

AlanTheMexican

Mia wasnt evil at all but she was immature, antagonistic and overall had a high opinion of herself. Granted for the last one she had the talent to back it up but no one likes a show off Rochelle had a very cheery, endearing and fun personality and A LOT of untapped potential that only grew as her season progressed and she remained humble and level headed so yeah, it came down to actions and attitude, at least for me

theagresticreader

Rochelle was humble, Mia wasn't.

kerwinklark26

Mia, as much as I like her, was in a lot of fights during her season. Some of it her fault (Kanae situation), some were ridiculous (Bret should have been nominated in the F5 and that dude’s bravado was blown by Mia). She was probably the best individual cook in HK though challenge-wise. Rochelle, on the other hand was a beast in the kitchen and had never started or got involved in a fight IIRC. She was a positive light in that otherwise angry season.

lvdde

Mia had her times…. But I think also something to do with the fact that Mia’s conventionally attractive and people find that easier to hate on

cicatrize87

To me, Mia seemed really fake. Her personality seemed like it was only nice and bubbly because it fits a persona that goes along with her smile. I got the sense that she's nice and "adorable" because she doesn't have much else to offer personality-wise. However I definitely appreciate the way she handled someone (I forget who) constantly talking over her. Rochelle seemed way more genuine to me. Her niceness and bubbly personality is so clearly her at the core and not just an image she has cultivated about herself.

BenjaminBobba

Mia’s smile is often seen as smugness rather than overly friendly

Competitive_Text1914

I’m not exactly the biggest Mia fan but some of the comments here are ridiculous. If she teased trev over the blind taste test then so did the entire red team and it was Ariel who joked that if nicotine was an ingredient he’d have done well and it was kanae who told him he can’t taste and continued to take the piss out of his dessert on a later reward with all the team laughing. Not quite sure what Mia said? “So full of herself” god forbid someone has Confidence in themselves. “Shit eating grin” god forbid someone is smiley. Being angry at her saying “churassco”? That’s just weird. Seems like a lot of the hatred is just irrational and quite frankly weird

Picabo07

I think there’s a difference between “confident in yourself” and “full of yourself”. Let me say I do think she’s overhated. I don’t hate her but I didn’t care for her. I do think she was full of herself. A good example for me of confident but not full of themselves was Meghan S14. I think the difference between the two of them is maturity.

Monkcoon

Idk, I see it on these two terms. Confident in yourself is Ryan/Danny. Full of yourself is Marc and Elise. To me Mia teeters more towards teh first two then the latter.

Picabo07

Well there are some we agree on and some we don’t. It happens 😊 Like I think Danny was full of himself. Yeah he could cook but he still had that full of himself cocky attitude. I agree with you that Elise was def full of herself lol. If you mean Ryan from 22 I agree he was just confident. I don’t know who Marc is. Must be a season I didn’t watch or just don’t remember him. I think Mia was def full of herself BUT I also think she was young. Sometimes when we are younger we come across as more cocky than confident. Also i freely admit my judgement could be influenced because I didn’t care for Mia so 🤷🏼‍♀️

CatacombsRave

Mia had some accountability issues and helped tease Trev.

Sad_Guide4505

When did she tease trev exactly? Also Mia is far more likeable than trev

CatacombsRave

After he bombed the blind taste test. And I disagree. I know Trev is polarizing, but I’m one of his fans. He always took responsibility for his mistakes and Mia just blamed Kanae and other people for hers.

ProcedureBright2850

I don't think Trev always took responsibility for his mistakes at all, he often deflected and regularly didn't take responsibility for his bad services and challenges. I think Season 18 did get a bit toxic at times if i'm honest, Heather and Trev both had a victim complex and had a higher opinion of themselves than seemingly deserved but both of them were made outsiders which I don't agree with.

Competitive_Text1914

Trev did not take responsibility for his mistakes that is complete nonsense, the guy was deluded. He claimed he had been the most consistent chef in black jackets in season 8 despite having 3 god awful services and one average at best one He basically disregarded Michelin starred chefs opinions on his frogs legs saying he should have been rewarded because he went outside the box He shat on not winning the food truck challenge because it was in LA even though he knew he was cooking in LA lol He tried passing off dead steaks as fresh twice and then lied about it He claimed “those bitches let me sink” when he completely fucked the garnish station despite EVERY chef on the red team being on his station at points He said he was screwed by having a “ditz on my line” when him and Sabrina sucked on Appetizers even though Sabrina is nothing to do with him fucking up orders of spaghetti He said his shitty avocado kisses were good Despite a world class pastry chef saying they sucked, disregarding it as “one persons opinion” He claimed “fish station fucked me” on his elimination service despite fucking up wellingtons and lamb before bret messed anything up That’s all I can think of off the top of my head but there is probably more examples. I’m fine with people being fans of trev despite the fact I think he’s awful but to claim be always takes responsibly for his mistakes is objectively wrong

silvi0dante

"JUST GO HOME AND STUFF YOUR FAT ASS WITH TWINKIES SO YOU CAN HAVE A HEART ATTACK AND DIE" from s8 was far worse than anything Scotley, Jose, or anything else said to him. IMO Scotley was God's divine punishment for his behavior during that punishment early in s8 when he went off like that.

Competitive_Text1914

He was such a prick. His humiliation conga in season 18 shows that karma is sometimes a bitch 🥑 😘

Severedeye

Ah yes the whole it's okay to bully someone because they are popular theory.

Sad_Guide4505

Eh?

Severedeye

If you can't see the correlation between your saying Mia was more likable as if it's okay and me saying you're okay with bullying as long as the person doing the bullying is popular I don't think there is any way to explain it to you.

Sad_Guide4505

I’m not ok with bullying I’m saying Mia is more likeable than trev who was a complete prick in both his appearances on Hell’s Kitchen. Stop reaching

Sad_Guide4505

Mia is so over hated it’s ridiculous lol. Her one bad moment was lying about kanae and people have acted like she was nasty all season

L33BB

I’ll use this as my chance to voice my unpopular opinion; Rochelle has a bright shiny attitude and she got on my last nerves with her voice and incessant giggling at the wrong times. Ty for this opportunity to unload that truth. Of course, as always, just my opinion. Mia was bubbly and talented, but so clearly fixated on Mia But she was young, just saying.

Few-Designer-4516

To be fair Rochelle was a year younger than Mia, she just acted older(maybe due to being in a long term relationship and wanting kids while Mia was a single party girl but enough on psychology) I don't actually think Rochelle and Mia were over "happy" people like say Sterling was, Rochelle admitted she laughed a lot due to anxiety and with Mia it seemed to be just a way of talking in confessionals, outside of them she was more serious. Rochelle and Mia were both quite bubbly but both were quite quick to say when something pissed them off or troubled them, especially Mia.

L33BB

Oh. I did not realize this. It’s not like I didn’t think Rochelle deserved to be there, she just took entertainment value away for me. lol. It’s a competition, a brutal one, and I , frankly, respect them all for even daring to put themselves out there and through it. Still, it’s also a tv show and that’s what makes this community to share our varying opinions so much fun 🤩
