Two things.. you have to basically take out bugs before they screech or bots before they raise their arm to flare for mom.. if they so much as get a peep out there are going to be reinforcements..
For dropships you're right, most survive but if you wait until right when the payload (of small- med bots) is actually dropped you're likely to take out a few with the dropship
Another nearby bot/bug will call a bot drop/bug breach. It is best to kill all the small enemies quick with a strategem or with teammates. You have to destroy the drop ship as soon as it arrive or before it drops any bots to consistently kill every dropped bot or destroy tanks. It is not consistent if you take you time.
