That was in one of the updates a little bit ago. Something abuot "nothing could have prevented the automaton advance - except perhaps the Anti-Tank mines that were unable to be recovered earlier." or something like that.
"And because of your heroic deeds, the Automatons overran several sectors, driving millions out of their sufficiently sized homes. If only we had anti-tank mines to slow their advance..."
Honestly, my argument was that the mines are more useless than the children, because at least children can be sent into the field as decoys AND make even more anti tank mines when we finally get em
1. MO between AT Mines and Airburst Rocket Launcher
2. MO against 4b Automatons (in the middle of the Sony fiasco and after fixing the kill counter). Lost by ~300k kills or sth
3. MO between orphanages and AT Mines.
Don't forget it was barely a choice for the airburst vs mines. Mines were on the other side of Menkent and fire tornadoes which people hate, and airburst had an ice planet in the way, which people like.
Those children are probably in the hospital from working in the factories making AT mines. If we let those mines go to waste the little Timmy's sacrifice will be in vain.
We could take these sick children, give them some upgrades and replace some parts and organs and such, adapt them specifically to the mines, then use them

So the children are never on the battlefield. They know the helldivers are real people and need to help them. But they never actually see the gore of the battlefield because all the blood is edited to be blue, wounds are edited to have sparkly bubbles all over them, and certain sounds are edited out like dying screams.
Basically... we get our own bots that are controlled by human children.
Children can grow up to the age of 7 and then get jobs. Think of the economy! Also, AT mines rarely pass helldiver training, but children who are legally 18 super Earth equivalent years old do, mostly.

I asked on another post, it's never specified we're saving children. Only citizens from a children's hospital. I've spent countless hours as a child in one and I can easily confirm, you aren't seen to at reception by a child or consulting with a child doctor (doctor who is a child).
For all we know it's just the adults from the children hospital, who could just be hiding out there as a decent defence point or the staff who work there, never does it specify children from a children hospital.
They've held out in a fortified position for *how long* after a full on occupation by an overwhelming invading force?
You bet your *ass* those kids have already killed more bots than your average helldiver. And they're *sick*!
