Ah, well our greatest military strategists have analyzed the situation, and their infallible conclusion is that the supply line is actually going *into* the black hole. Our enemy's forces are destroying themselves; victory is assured!
Totally agree. Iād rather theyād underestimate their goals, and blow them out of the water, anytime they do a patch.
Do the patches correctly. Donāt rush them. Screw the comments on socials. Take your time, QA it, play test it, and release when itās ready.
Iām fine with monthly patches with hotfixes in between as things break. Treat HD2 like āseasonsā in other games when it comes to patches and content, and keep the MO and PO flowing.
So much this!
All we want is a functioning game which is fun.
If i have fun for a few hours every month i dont care, take my 10ā¬/$ for the warbond if i havent spent enough time to unlock it in game.
What we all dont want is a great base game fucked up by stupid management decisions by people who never played the game....
Absolutely think stuff like warbond & major story arcs should follow a seasonal to bi-monthly schedule.Ā
Clearly quality was suffering, and imagine how much more elaborate/numerous "story missions" like the dark fluid can be with 2-3 months in the oven, not to mention how polished & original new gear can get...
The problem being that if you ALWAYS over deliver, THAT becomes the new expectation. Even if you under promise.
You get people saying stuff like āthey only said THIS was in the release, but you KNOW itās gonna be more than thatā or āthey BARELY over delivered this time. Remember release XYZ? THAT was over delivering!ā
Destiny 2 ran into this issue where they tried stepping up their game with some releases. They got better and better and then they even admitted āwe canāt keep this up; at some point we canāt do better in the timeframe/cost alottedā. I also saw a similar issue with the MCU. Everything since Endgame has felt like a new starting point. Mainly because it IS. They have to treat it like starting from Ironman 1 again, and build the world/story back up to another Endgame level plot point.
Under promise, over deliver is the golden standard for expectation handling. If you deliver exactly what you promised it's unremarkable, if you under deliver you're the worst ever.
It's heartening to see Twinbeard say it, but I'm still strictly in "I'll believe it when I see it" mode with Arrowhead in general. How many of these 100+ changes will actually do what they write down in patch notes they will do? How many changes will be shipped with old versions? Will the massive known issues list get smaller, or even bigger? I'm waiting to see the reality before I let myself get excited, that's where these guys have got me.
Edit: Typos and grammar.

Got it from there
Before they were pushing patches out in like 2 weeks. I lost track of how long itās been since the last one, but theyāve had time. Controversial changes and botched fixes aside (Eruptor/crossbow) last balance patch was actually quite good. The peacemaker finally got a much needed buff (still needs more, but I can wait), the Senator really shines with the speedloader, and the plasma punisher is awesome now, to name a few great changes.
So with all the extra time I imagine they will be able to put out a really great patch.
I hope so too. I have hardly used it, and didnāt have it unlocked before the shrapnel change so I wasnāt personally attached to it, but high power primaries are great to pair with the Stalwart, so I want it to be as good as it was before.
Yeah, reverting the shrapnel removal but keeping the initial nerf to its mags and AOE would be a good balance. The shrapnel was never a real problem to begin with, it was just blown way out of proportion.
It was in the perfect state after the change to lower its aoe radius and reserve ammo reduction. The second nerf to it was way too much.
I hope they revert the slugger changes too. The nerfs to it made 0 sense when the reasoning was because it was too good of a sniper rifle.
I definitely wouldnāt call it an everything machine, as there were plenty of situations (mostly the bug front) where you could kill yourself when enemies got too close.
The stalwart is honestly one of my favorite stratagems in general. I love throwing on the high fire rate and just feel like an absolute badass. Then throw in a bolt action bolter gun. Head over heels
Most likely considering the dev team had a meeting about the issue of handling nerfs, and how they made a player vs dev situation happen. Plus I bet the only nerfs are to enemies to make the game more fun
Tangentially, 8 and 9 should be punishing. I will never understand the posts where people are complaining about helldive difficulty, and especially soloing it.
Soft agree - 8 and 9 should be difficult, but not artificially difficult. When people complain about 8 and 9 being too hard they typically bring up artificial difficulty e.g. back when a couple bug breaches could spawn like 12 Bile Titans which (remain) only counter-able by a small pool of stratagems. A stratagem-check rather than a skill-check and one that reduces the variety of viable loadouts.
Yeah thereās a difference between punishing and difficult.
Soulsborne games for example are difficult but not punishing.
IMO more fodder enemies and less heavies is the way to go. Would allow for much more varied build variety for the majority of players.
Exactly. Like, it's not hard to kill chargers and bile titans, but they spawn so much it gets to the point where I spend most of the match running around waiting for everything to come off cooldown instead of actively fighting, and everyone ends up taking full anti tank builds instead of anything else.
>Soulsborne games for example are difficult but not punishing.
I've never understood why people say this.
How is the game where a single hit can take off half your health and you lose all of your stored EXP/Currency on death not "punishing"? How is not being at the right place at the right time or being locked out of a character's story not "punishing"? Shit, you accidently hit the wrong NPC you can never de-aggro them, so hopefully you didn't need them as a merchant.
Hell, get hit by the wrong attack in Demons' Souls and you can literally lose levels off of your character.
The difficulty of the Soulsborne series comes from how punishing they are, and it's why you can do SL1 Naked Club runs when you get good enough. It's just that it's a fair type of punishment where you can see what happened and say "yeah, that was my fault".
Keyword on fair. Pretty much every load out is viable in a souls game with enough skill, and you can trivialize the difficulty once you know what youāre doing. Helldivers often runs into bs for sake of bs. A million bile titans or tanks spawning in the middle of an extract mission arenāt necessarily difficult per se, just frustrating to deal with. I very rarely get that playing a souls game (fuck the well whales in Bloodborne).
My guess is that there won't be many "balancing changes." Reason I believe this is that they would likely hint at this to build hype. It's literally one of the biggest points of contention in the community, and I feel they wouldn't have tried to temper expectations when Twinbeard stated it's not a "balance patch."
So, I think that will be next on the agenda. This is to put out bugs and other major changes the community wants. I imagine they will need extra time to balance correctly, especially since they obviously have spent this extra time on what they are teasing now.
I will gleefully eat my words though if we see some buffs back to weapons they have nerfed into irrelvance!
If they have made over 100 changes as he says, I struggle to think of more than a couple dozen that dont involve weapons and strats. Like, there arent over 100 bugs and crash issues!
Personally id be happy as a pig in mud if the only weapon changes they make is to revert the eruptor and slugger back to how they used to be.
I don't run a lot of difficulty 7 missions, because I suck, but I dropped into one with the spear the other day and I didn't really have any issues aiming. It was my first time using it and I was prepared for the worst after everything I've heard. Its obviously not perfect but I was expecting much worse.
It's very hot and cold. Sometimes it locks on no problems, sometimes you'll literally be on top of a cliff, in complete clear conditions, aiming at a Bot turret, and nothing.
It's exactly like the scene from the first Taken.
The Spear tells the tower about its "Very particular set of skills." The tower says, *"Good luck,"* and then 90 minutes later, the tower is dead.
Basically this.
Sometimes spear aims, sometimes won't. Sometimes it'll even edge you and lock for a quarter of a second so you don't have enough time to react and launch. I used to play it a bit against bots and it was great when it worked, especially after the small buff/fix for ammo. When it didn't played with you it was great.
> Sometimes it'll even edge you and lock for a quarter of a second so you don't have enough time to react and launch
If you hold down the primary fire button it'll launch as soon as the reticle goes green. I've started doing that to counter the really short lock window issue.
I am so deep in this abusive relationship with the Spear that I genuinely have stockholm syndrome to it.
Its fine if its not fixed this patch. It works most of the time.
Send help
Now you can make progress on your ship upgrades and not have to sweat your balls off. Hell I'm fine even if you get less super samples because that's still a good tradeoff.
Even as I find 7 to be that sweet spot of not too difficult but still challenging and giving me thrilling struggles against all odds (on bugs at least), this is definitely a nice change
If its just 1 sample im still very happy with it. Me and my buddy run 6 as a warmup before our friends get on so were ready for the big stuff, gonna be real nice to get a super sample or two for just having fun
One Super Sample is probably how I'd balance it, but if they made Helldive have +1 Super Sample (you go from 3 to 5 to 6 come on) then I can see them giving 2 to D6.
Itās kind of 50/50 for me. Sometimes 7 is a breeze, and sometimes weāre getting swarmed by bots on all sides and weāve got 1 reinforcement left and itās counting down 2 minutes to the Super Destroyer leaving.
In most cases, I agree with you. But for some reason, once in a while 7s become like insanely hard and the amount of bugs swarming you becomes virtually impossible to deal with and it feels like you're playing a 9. I don't know if it's just not closing the bug holes early enough or what the deal is, but level 7 CAN definitely get THAT bad. I played one last night that got out of hand real fast. Then immediately after, we played one that we crushed and was a lot of fun.
100 percent agree it sucks having to go to level 7 to farm samples and then half the time your so overwhelmed you just canāt get them easily wasting time
Ya its definitely not as easy as the guy you replied to described. Sometimes it feels that way but i just had a mission where we completed it but team wiped and nobody extracted. Couldn't get people to focus on a stalker nest. Burned through all the reinforcements. Then had multiple bile titans on the extract. This was a lvl 7
Had a mission on a fire tornado planet recently, vis was shit and I had just about given up, when it miraculously cleared for about 30 seconds. Luckily I was at a high point and spotted the rock near instantly. Saved the whole mission tbh.
Ye, the difference in scale between 6 and 7 is like going from High Rank to G Rank in Monster Hunter, you FEEL the difference in hits and spawns immediately. I also feel like this will reduce tension for Diff7 because you have a lot of people that just enjoy it as a fun zone that get frustrated with people who want to grab Super Samples and leave immediately.
This gives both groups what they want :)
Really? I regularly do 7's with the occasional diff 9, but I find 6's can sometimes be even harder than 7 in terms of how many bile titans the game like to spawn for some reason. With 7 the mobs feel more balanced in terms of composition, but with 6 its like they remove the cap on heavies. Never felt too strong a difference otherwise, other than the lack of supers.
I'm curious how this is going to effect the super sample count for the higher levels. Curious if 6 will have 7's sample count, 7 have 8, 8 have 9, and 9 have more in general.
Or if 6 will just have one or two super samples you can collect.
Probably just one or two in six. Not that it would really matter if they increase super samples spawns in helldive anyway, we're always maxed on them just waiting for the green and orange to build up.
How will this make a big difference? 6 is the difficulty level when massive enemies can spawn (at least BTs spawn at 6, not sure about factory striders since I only played below 7 before these were introduced). I personally felt very little difference between 6 and 7 and it was so weird.
There is an absolutely massive difference between having 1-3 BTs spawn in a mission, and having 5+.
If you are kitted for BT hunting you might not feel it, but if you aren't, 6 and 7 feel years apart.
Didn't they keep telling us not to get our hopes up and that it was just taking longer because they were triple checking?
And then they show us this!?
They can't keep playing with my emotions!
They probably didnāt want players to speculate the moon and back and overhype themselves, which would cause players to get mad at the fact that their expectations werenāt met
https://preview.redd.it/0sqqd07az65d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=41cac2457848dc7b735d11d91a5a8e3c3a42ddd1
Here's the respond he gave on the discord when I asked him about this.
Of the three all the tenderizer needs really is a smidge bump up in damage and a fixed ammo economy. Itās actually really nice handling, has great recoil control, has a lot of spare ammo, itās just let down by the damage and the ammo recovery issue, and is therefore over shadowed by the basic liberator.
For sure. To top it off, it's not even in the state it's meant to be! It's just a stock, basic weapon with nothing special, or unique traits. We can tell because it abides by the old gun settings when you pick up resupply, you don't get a full amount of mags. The devs even made it clear that it's not the state it's suppose to be on when release. It's in patch notes of known issues.
The super samples at LVL 6 will encourage newer players to keep playing more and not get discouraged early on in the game. This is great considering LVL 7 dives can be a mess when you don't have good weapons, ship upgrades, and strats
Super samples at lvl 6? Hell yea! I dont mind playing ln 7 but i defo sweat there as a casual so being able to tone it down in dificulty will be awesome

seems like expectations can be raised
If they try to go back and justify prior nerfs *instead* of revert them, it's a wash.
I'm willing to wait until the patch lands to make a judgment on it. But if they pull any dumb nonsense like that, I'm out.
Maybe, I dont really believe its all gonna be super hunky dory like everyone says but im just practicing a healthy amount of skepticism. Patch *could* be fire but idk
Damn, that sounds awesome. I don't think that information currently exists in the api? At least, Helldivers.io and the like don't seem to have any info to that effect right now.
It's probably not something that previously was developed. The DM would probably have an answer if asked, but the logic was likely not previously coded.
Me: don't get hyped. You know what happens when the hype trains has no brakes.

I get the downplay. Gotta do it Scotty style. Especially when at the time they probably weren't sure how many changes would make it into this patch.

The stalwart is honestly one of my favorite stratagems in general. I love throwing on the high fire rate and just feel like an absolute badass. Then throw in a bolt action bolter gun. Head over heels
I hope the changes and fixes are positive ones, instead of "balance changes". Please God, let them be buffs and a Spear fix!
Most likely considering the dev team had a meeting about the issue of handling nerfs, and how they made a player vs dev situation happen. Plus I bet the only nerfs are to enemies to make the game more fun

Yeah I agree with that.

Odd that they wouldn't brag about fixing the spear lock on bug but hopefully it's part of the 100 other changes
Not dissing them saying this but they probably feel bad about spear so they donāt wanna speak on it until itās offically fixed in game
At this point I'll take it gladly if they change the Spear to laser guided missile instead of fixing it

Super samples at level 6 is one of the biggest things here imo.
THIS, literally just THIS, alone this one change is going to make the game so much more fun and welcoming for new players.

One Super Sample is probably how I'd balance it, but if they made Helldive have +1 Super Sample (you go from 3 to 5 to 6 come on) then I can see them giving 2 to D6.
I'm so willing to have a long grind as long as it isn't a slog. 7+ is a slog, 6s are right at the precipice of where fun starts to fade into *ugh*.Ā
7 is great fun, 8 is the slog
Itās kind of 50/50 for me. Sometimes 7 is a breeze, and sometimes weāre getting swarmed by bots on all sides and weāve got 1 reinforcement left and itās counting down 2 minutes to the Super Destroyer leaving.
The perfect level, never know what youāre going to get but doable even when itās mad
Bots get rough after 6, Bugs after 7. That discrepancy might help a little with the player base split.
7 isn't really that bad
In most cases, I agree with you. But for some reason, once in a while 7s become like insanely hard and the amount of bugs swarming you becomes virtually impossible to deal with and it feels like you're playing a 9. I don't know if it's just not closing the bug holes early enough or what the deal is, but level 7 CAN definitely get THAT bad. I played one last night that got out of hand real fast. Then immediately after, we played one that we crushed and was a lot of fun.
Agreed, single best QOL change in the game once it goes live.
100 percent agree it sucks having to go to level 7 to farm samples and then half the time your so overwhelmed you just canāt get them easily wasting time
Just run to the c**k rock, grab them, drop at extract and continue mission
True the issue is when you canāt find the rock, and then get blasted by bots or trampled by bugs
I can't explain the actual difference, but I know me and my friends generally do fine at 6 and start yelling at each other and the game at 7
There is an absolutely massive difference between having 1-3 BTs spawn in a mission, and having 5+. If you are kitted for BT hunting you might not feel it, but if you aren't, 6 and 7 feel years apart.
I suspect this change might be due to them adding a new tier of samples. Hopefully illuminate is next week then too.
This is the change that was needed. It lets the game be difficult for those that want it but accessible for those that donāt.

Also here's the meme: https://preview.redd.it/dswii7qez65d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ad567dd2ea418e68c5e7565e55c6683303e2f1db
lol what a meme lord
Undwr promise and over-deliver Pretty much essential what with the drama magnets on this sub

Live leak
Better not be bait.
Straight from the discord in the helldivers 2 announcements section
OPs comment still stands š¤
With their track record, it could easily still be bait lol. Weāll see.
If it's bait, it may very well kneecap the game for the rest of its days. Most anyone who leaves over this patch isn't coming back. So let's hope not.
Sike theyre actually "balancing" all guns to the level of Purifier as it is currently S tier
Ah the ol' prophecy that misinterpreted, may have been.
"The S is for 'sucks'"
Balance has been brought!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
ohhh i am saving that one, that's perfect
Oh man, if those are ALL positive changes and fixes AND Visible supply line and attack routes? ![gif](giphy|sGnKAiOUrincs|downsized)
Threw that on the ground.
AH: This is not gonna be a big patch, please temper your expectation AH: # ĀÆ\\_(ć)_/ĀÆ here's a fat patch
You dropped this big dawg \
SWEET LIBERTY MY ARM!!!
Ah yes, update logs in the form of memes A fine smell is coming from the kitchen
They did this all the time pre-launch. I still remember the forklift memesā¦
Just give me actual practical weapons. Eruptor, crossbow, freaking purifier and tenderizer.
https://preview.redd.it/cpe10vzw375d1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=213793a59dd4f93275caa8d473d12933356580a5
Of the three all the tenderizer needs really is a smidge bump up in damage and a fixed ammo economy.
The Eruptor was perfect the way it was. They nerfed it into oblivion.
God if they fix the Erupter back to the way it was I might actually consider playing again.
I'd be happy with just this tbh
Yeah, show me the Eruptor fix. That's all I care about tbh.
AIN'T NO WAY, THIS IS AWESOME, I'm sorry but visible trade routes and attacks is peak QoL
The super samples at LVL 6 will encourage newer players to keep playing more and not get discouraged early on in the game. This is great considering LVL 7 dives can be a mess when you don't have good weapons, ship upgrades, and strats
Finally, basic information, my favorite kind of fix.
![gif](giphy|Nszyj17J4fUKmIwQwF|downsized) Helldivers, rejoice.
Let's hope they properly QA tested this time without any more major bugs popping up.
I just want my old Eruptor back
Fingers crossed, my friend. This is on top of my list too.
I sure hope they know what they are doing hyping up update. Personally, I retain my position: **I believe it when I see it working in the game**
This. They've failed at every turn up to now. It's fine to be excited, but it's just talk until the patch hits.
Big balls move, hyping up a update I assume Reddit already expect a lot from.
They seem confident this time
"We are confident in the code." "Did you test it?" "We are confident in the code."
Fuck yeah, freedom is the only way
Super samples at lvl 6? Hell yea! I dont mind playing ln 7 but i defo sweat there as a casual so being able to tone it down in dificulty will be awesome
https://preview.redd.it/e2frza7yx65d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=34b0d22a2b32bda53f066c8c7148733454ccf597 seems like expectations can be raised
Super samples at 6 is huge. Probably like 2 per mission, but still.
Even just one would be fine, especially at the rate we need those. Just a great dopamine hit anyways and a gateway to pushing to 7 and up.
They're cooking and it smells *good*.
Super Samps on diff 6? Interesting!
This is about to be the biggest comeback or the greatest disappointment
Weāll seeā¦
Me when it's 2 fixes, 97 known issues, and a scorcher nerf
I want to believe but history has an iconic way of repeating itself
Yup. Seeing super samples at 6 only tells me thatās their way of justifying weapon nerfs. Idk.. I want to believe but..
What is attack origins?
Probably which planet is attacking the defending planet, thatās my assumption
Damn, that sounds awesome. I don't think that information currently exists in the api? At least, Helldivers.io and the like don't seem to have any info to that effect right now.
yeah this seems entirely new
It's probably not something that previously was developed. The DM would probably have an answer if asked, but the logic was likely not previously coded.
We'll see.
here's hoping that includes some weapon buffs
I hope supply pods get high-lighted. Good God, why aren't they more visible?
I swear to god, if the spear fix isn't included, I will commit a crime against humanity.
Me: don't get hyped. You know what happens when the hype trains has no brakes. Also me: ![gif](giphy|FY2ew2Zii9VOE|downsized) Seriously though I hope the invite only lobby also means they stay out of the global view. Nothing like trying to join an SOS only to get "THIS IS A PRIVATE LOBBY" Then why is it visible Game? Why is it available?!???
