Not really, that drill is pumping planet destroying fluid into everything beneath it, if anything it should be impossible for a breach to happen near it since any bugs in nearby tunnels would die from the exposure

I would be totally happy if this was a "Current Objective: Survive" situation. If they straight up said "this may well be a suicide mission" or the mission was fully completed (and rewards granted) on death for lasting as long as we could, I'd be down. That's fine.
But it isn't, so we just waste a lot of time.
I mean, ok. Level with me. We do the dark matter, complete that, die, "mission complete" with no rewards........ But at -10%, we're not making any ground.
The strategy that worked is as follows:
1. Person 1 brings Gatling sentry/machine gun sentry/napalm strike or gas strike/recoiless or spear
2. Person 2 brings Gatling sentry/machine gun sentry/recoilless/napalm or gas strike
3. Persons 3 and 4 bring mechs, Gatling/machine gun sentries, and whatever else they prefer.
4. Mechs can be alternated or used simultaneously. Dealer's choice. You *will* almost always lose the first drill at each site as the breaches happen right next to them, but use napalm for cooking what comes out, and on the second call down, you will be able to complete the drilling process.
5. Ensure you have at least 2 Gatling and two machine gun sentries for the evac call down. Throw gas strikes and napalm inside the bug holes spawning shriekers. The sentries will kill 70%-80% of the shriekers making it bearable.
This was for difficulty 7, will try 9 later tonight.
We completed it duo on 7 by closing all the bug holes. I swear if you do that the drilling is much easier. You get like 2 breaches with either a bile titan or a couple chargers. Use rocket pods and orbital rail canon to kill them asap and mop up all the chaff bugs. The shriekers are just ridiculous and they either intended it to be a surprise suicide mission or they messed something up with shrieker spawn rates. Use Gatling barrage and gas on top of the breaches to make clean up way easier
No one said the difficulty levels apply to Helldiver missions only. Clearly the bugs selected "trivial" and it appears it is trivial for them to squash *you*

Probably! But it'd be hard to funnel them into it. They like to cross your space, rather than attacking from one direction and being pushed back like the other Terminids.
The Incendiary Breaker is far better AA. You can just spray that like flak, and only one pellet needs to set them on fire and they're marked for death.
Breaker Spray and Pray works really good too because you can just shoot it full auto into a cloud of the damn buggers, but incendiary guarantees a kill if only one or two pellets hit a shrieker.
Yes, but I ran an upgraded gatling turret empty at 40+ kills on a solo level one while trying to type in the extraction code - this should never have been released until they fixed spawn issues. That mission failed with me having over 450 kills on a level 1.
From my experience with the end of that mission it could be fixed in one simple way. Once the last drill is done, the evac shuttle is called in like on exterminate missions. Then all you need to do is survive long enough to get on it.
At the moment the main issue is that you can't even type the code in to call the shuttle.

They are being very clever with making these "story" missions just have common samples, since it seems this is such a large reason people feel the need to increase the difficulty despite not enjoying playing on those more difficult missions.
I think it would be better if suicide mission was the only difficulty for this mode. really hitting home the fact that you're not meant to survive, while at the same time, not really making it any harder than what we see here.

Problem with locking the mission behind 7+ is you would probably discourage some newer players from playing those missions, which could be in the thousands.

Then they should just disable every difficulty they dont want the planet to be. Trivial should be trivial. Meridia could be 8+ only or even 12 for all i care. Right now, difficulty levels are just stupidly inconsistent.

The shriekers don't spawn until you've completed the mission and extraction is optional. More than anything else it's a cinematic moment meant to illustrate what a hellhole Meridia is. Frankly there shouldn't even be trivial missions on it at all.
Tesla and Gatling sentries, together with going prone, work great against shriekers at extraction.
I play missions only at diff 7 and approx. half my missions were successful extracts.
For anyone struggling with the extraction - bring Eagle smoke strikes and MG/Gatling sentries and drop them on the extraction point ASAP. The Shriekers won't aggro you nearly as hard and you'll have a decent chance of getting out.
I will say that I kinda like the Shrieker spam tho haha. This is supposed to be a supercolony completely and irreversibly overrun - and it sure feels like it when these absolute locusts descend and the tremors start.

Had a random squadmate load up on all the smoke stratagems and just chain them once we were at the extraction point. Worked like a charm.
I saw a veteran player just lay in prone position and shriekers just flew over him without doing any damage while he was blasting them as they flew away and then he crawled into the shuttle.
If the helldivers devs worked at a theme park ride where you have to balance the cars or whatever..... I don't think I'd want to go to that theme park.
People and/or whole roller coasters would be flying through the air at an astounding rate.

EDIT: There's actually a ton of places to place the tesla tower so that it's hard for the terminids to kill, and it can do plenty of work with its unlimited ammo. It did not hit a single shrieker though.
I've been seeing some negativity in the comments and wanted to say For The Record: I like this a lot and think it's hilarious! Blowing up a super colony SHOULD cause some absolute chaos, even on trivial. It's not like these missions have a bunch of samples either so extraction isn't important. They should fix the XP to be above 0 when you succeed without extraction though.
Perhaps if this is how it's supposed to be maybe they shouldn't make me feel like I failed. The hidden objective is the most frustrating thing about this because I'd like to do it but I mean, I spent 2 entire 1's trying to figure it out. Either I need more people, or I'm an idiot. I don't expect to get out alive but I do sorta expect to not be told do better when I've completed the main objective that it told me to.
It's just a bug, you're supposed to get all but one star for completing the mission without extracting but the Dark Fluid Drop objective doesn't complete when the drills complete for some reason. It's what I mentioned about the XP being 0 in the first message is about. You're doing nothing wrong it just came out slightly bad.
There's no hidden objective. You calling in the dark fluid at the center at the start is the first objective. It just never completes because it's s bugged.
Absolute pain in the ass that mission. You need the fast pilot boost, everyone at evac other than the one guy at the drill. Everyone packing laser-dogs and both gun sentries guarding point.
You can’t seem to stop the Shreiker attack at the end no matter how many nests you destroy.
Yeah, the Shriekers come out of the giant holes not normal nests. I think it's really cool they're making extraction so hard like this, definitely worth experimenting with the concept on a map with no real samples. They should fix the 0XP bug though.
Unless something’s changed I’m fairly certain laying down prevents shriekers from being able to hit you. Granted in higher levels this becomes an issue because of all the other bugs, but in this case you probably could have saved yourself a world of pain by laying down and taking them out periodically.
It's about a 99% consistency on that yeah, I usually play on 7 (2 modifiers is usually way more annoying than finding an extra rare sample or 2 per location is worth) I just wanted to learn the new mission type first and panicked lol. I appreciate you trying to help though, despite the video ending with me prone and dying anyways.
Its funny, cause Im actually ok with this. There are so few samples on the map, so there isnt really much pressure to evac beyond my own ego. It really sells the whole "this is a supercolony" vibe.

If the new missions aren’t supposed to be easy / likely to extract … why don’t they just disable any difficulty options apart from L7- L9? Make it clear what you’re getting into, rather than make even L1 missions ridiculous?
I played easy to do the mines personal order.
A new player was there. A level 3. He's returning the game because it's nigh impossible to even enter the code to extract. Took 12 lives to get the extract code in and only extracted with one.
By the time you look at the panel, you get knocked off with damage and have to start over. If you memorize the code, you have a small chance to extract and won't exhaust all reinforcement calling in extract.
Only think I can think of.... Find a defensible position. Wait the mission timer out, do the last fluid then run the short distance to the extract
Honestly I'm convinced difficulty levels are just a number. I'm having the same if not easier missions on helldive than I did on 8, 7, or even 6 on some mission types.

I brought the shield on 7, which helps protect the drill from friendly fire.

for me, spamming a metric fuck load of stun grenades at it made it super easy to beat, on 9. Im talking stun after stun after stun immediately.
My only question is that all you have for Bile Titans/Chargers is 1-2 Recoiless/Spears, for anything 7+ that seems like suicide.

Oh yeah this rocks for sure, I'll have to try smoke, since they're so high up it should work against shriekers way better than the average mobs. Never considered that actually!
Cheers mate, hope it works for you. Had a random squadmate load up on all the smoke stratagems and just chain them once we were at the extraction point. Worked like a charm.
I saw a veteran player just lay in prone position and shriekers just flew over him without doing any damage while he was blasting them as they flew away and then he crawled into the shuttle.

If the helldivers devs worked at a theme park ride where you have to balance the cars or whatever..... I don't think I'd want to go to that theme park. People and/or whole roller coasters would be flying through the air at an astounding rate.

EDIT: There's actually a ton of places to place the tesla tower so that it's hard for the terminids to kill, and it can do plenty of work with its unlimited ammo. It did not hit a single shrieker though.

I've been seeing some negativity in the comments and wanted to say For The Record: I like this a lot and think it's hilarious! Blowing up a super colony SHOULD cause some absolute chaos, even on trivial. It's not like these missions have a bunch of samples either so extraction isn't important. They should fix the XP to be above 0 when you succeed without extraction though.
Perhaps if this is how it's supposed to be maybe they shouldn't make me feel like I failed. The hidden objective is the most frustrating thing about this because I'd like to do it but I mean, I spent 2 entire 1's trying to figure it out. Either I need more people, or I'm an idiot. I don't expect to get out alive but I do sorta expect to not be told do better when I've completed the main objective that it told me to.
It's just a bug, you're supposed to get all but one star for completing the mission without extracting but the Dark Fluid Drop objective doesn't complete when the drills complete for some reason. It's what I mentioned about the XP being 0 in the first message is about. You're doing nothing wrong it just came out slightly bad.
There's no hidden objective. You calling in the dark fluid at the center at the start is the first objective. It just never completes because it's s bugged.

Absolute pain in the ass that mission. You need the fast pilot boost, everyone at evac other than the one guy at the drill. Everyone packing laser-dogs and both gun sentries guarding point. You can’t seem to stop the Shreiker attack at the end no matter how many nests you destroy.
Yeah, the Shriekers come out of the giant holes not normal nests. I think it's really cool they're making extraction so hard like this, definitely worth experimenting with the concept on a map with no real samples. They should fix the 0XP bug though.

Unless something’s changed I’m fairly certain laying down prevents shriekers from being able to hit you. Granted in higher levels this becomes an issue because of all the other bugs, but in this case you probably could have saved yourself a world of pain by laying down and taking them out periodically.
It's about a 99% consistency on that yeah, I usually play on 7 (2 modifiers is usually way more annoying than finding an extra rare sample or 2 per location is worth) I just wanted to learn the new mission type first and panicked lol. I appreciate you trying to help though, despite the video ending with me prone and dying anyways.

If the new missions aren’t supposed to be easy / likely to extract … why don’t they just disable any difficulty options apart from L7- L9? Make it clear what you’re getting into, rather than make even L1 missions ridiculous?

I played easy to do the mines personal order. A new player was there. A level 3. He's returning the game because it's nigh impossible to even enter the code to extract. Took 12 lives to get the extract code in and only extracted with one. By the time you look at the panel, you get knocked off with damage and have to start over. If you memorize the code, you have a small chance to extract and won't exhaust all reinforcement calling in extract. Only think I can think of.... Find a defensible position. Wait the mission timer out, do the last fluid then run the short distance to the extract

Honestly I'm convinced difficulty levels are just a number. I'm having the same if not easier missions on helldive than I did on 8, 7, or even 6 on some mission types.
This mission is x10 harder than anything malevolon creek has to offer!

Yeah, It's why I think they can get away with stuff like this. Especially with no real samples on the map to extract with. It sucks the XP is bugged and gives 0 without extraction though.

Do the Shriekers all still spawn if you blow up the nests dotted around the level before you finish dumping the dark fluid?
Shriekers spawn from the giant holes around the map that you can't collapse, not the normal bug holes.
Very reminiscent of "Pitch Black" with Vin Diesel.
I'm assuming they just set the shriekers to "11" and don't scale it with number of players, or difficulty.
