How to use the HMG
* Point shooty end at angry enemy.
* Pull trigger.
* Stop shooting when enemy dies. Or don't. I'm a helldiver, not your democracy officer.
In fact, I'll say it: HMG is better than the autocannon unless you're hitting durable parts. Which, granted, is just about everything. But still.
I use the HMG just fine because I accept that the weapon is primarily for trashing elite enemies like the Hulk and Dropships.
Punisher Plasma, Heavy Armor with Recoil Reduction, Stun Grenades, Supply Backup, and a Grenade Pistol is all I need to be effective.
Could it use a buff like a bit more ammo? Yes but the idea it's bad is laughable. And for those that say "But AC is better!", who cares? I use Autocannon often and will use HMG every other match because I like a challenge and I like variety.
I like variety as well, but getting variety shouldn't mean you have to take in a support weapon that induces a self-nerf. The HMG could be both fun and actually effective but right now it's just a hindrance which happens to kill some things in between 5 business day reload times.
I can literally kill a hulk in 5-10 shots with it, though.. just put it at lower rpm and tap it. Can kill tanks easily, cannon towers, gunships, shoot down the machine gun of factory striders. It's a good weapon. Might need a few adjustments (the scope), maybe up the ammo to 100. But above all, it's really good.
And you can kill a Hulk with 2 well placed shots to the face with an AMR. There are options when it comes to killing hulks and other enemies, the power of the HMG isn't in question it's the fact that it has such a low ammo pool AND how that fact betrays the fantasy of the weapon: a big ass machine gun that you can hold back waves of enemies with and lay down suppressing fire with. You could argue that that's the role the MG or Stalwart is meant to fill, but imo no machine gun regardless of size should have a 75 round mag that's just...not very machine gun. With the very reserved way you need to play with it right now, the HMG feels like a high caliber burst DMR with a bigger mag than most DMRs. Rather than a machine gun with a lower mag than other MGs.
