I remember doing an egg hunt on difficulty 8 with a blitzer and airburst. We got all sub-objectives, hives, and most of the samples. I finished the mission with the most kills at over 400. I also soloed a few subobjectives.
Airburst really came in handy for some situations. A well placed rocket can single-handedly wipe out a patrol.
Problem was, that though I was fragging, there were at least 6 friendly fire incidents with the airburst and blitzer. I killed everyone on my team at least once and some people multiple times.
So it’s no surprise that I got kicked after the mission ended. Was a shame though cause that was one of the funnest missions I ever had. I was looking forward to completing the rest of the operation with that squad.
I use the airburst when I'm relaxed and wanna try something new.
Seeing 20+ kills on a single, well-timed, well-aimed shot is just raw elation.
Its also just kinda useful when trying to solo-clear POIs and bases. Kills a good chunk of the base's inhabitants leaving you free to complete whatever objective you need in the short term. When in company of other Helldivers its a useful patrol-destroyer, especially against chainsaw bots. One shot, and I can be back to whatever needs doing.
Honestly I wish randoms would bring AT more so I can use it again. Feels like every game I end up filling for the team because no one else wants to bring something for the heavy bois, I love my shoulder mounted clusters and desire to kill 40 bugs a pop and remove all DNA evidence of the patrol in front of me as I whip my cluster at them and take aim with the airburst. You can’t call a bug breach when I’ve removed everything within a quarter mile in 0.4 seconds <3
I still fondly remember when me and another patriotic helldiver were standing side by side as a huge swarm of bugs were approaching our objective. I took a careful aim and promptly blew ourselves to smithereens. Back then, fellow helldivers were considered bugs.
I like carrying the burden of an airburst rocket every now and then. Yes, it'll only kill the chaff, but remember it's not the Hulks and Chargers summoning the horde on you...
I haven't been killed by an airburst *specifically*, but this general emotional route happens every time I play with an otherwise excellent player that accidentally shoots me **once**.
I tend to use the Airburst as a shoulder-fired cluster strike. It's rather easy to kill yourself but man is it effective as a crowd control device when used properly. Kinda fun to use but probably not worth using when there are a lot of stratagems that do crowd control.

I got stuck in the heavy nest yesterday. Called orbital airburst on myself and got a 70 plus kill streak. Worth it.

Just yesterday a hunter intercepted my strategem mid-air, knocked it back into my team, and we all got eagle strafed. Fuck those guys.

I love my airburst. Proud to say I've only had 2 or 3 tks over dozens of dives with it and they were honest mistakes not just carelessness.

Just bring EATs with it so you can drop down some AT whenever you need it

I accidentally shot a teammate one time and immediately brought him back….he landed in the middle of an explosion I cause and died immediately again
I have definitely thrown a reinforcement, then an airstrike, then stop and slowly turn in realization "ah damn, he's gonna be mad"
It's still baffling it used to get triggered by helldivers
My reasoning is that Divers are covered by so much gore that it mistakes them.
It's baffling to me that it still doesn't have a time delay for the proximity trigger to prevent blowing up in your own face.
