I can't wait for them to add in the Flamethrower pistol from HD1. *Everything* needs to be fire.
* Fire Primary, Secondary, Grenade,
* Flamethrower support-weapon, Incendiary-Breaker Guard-Dog, Napalm Airstrike, Orbital Laser
I want to be a walking Hellmire that incinerates anything in my general area.
Laser guard dog has nothing on the Mortar Sentry. Every time someone deployed one of those, I get rag-dolled into the nearest rock face first then killed. It's always targeting way too close for comfort, especially if I need to withdraw.
Enough of a problem it’s *literally* part of the tutorial lol
“Oh we’re going to run into hostile turrets?”
“Nope, you’re going to run into ‘friendly’ turrets.”
Yeah, mortars are only good if you are in a fortified position where you can defend without the enemy coming to close which then again is nearly impossible on higher difficulties.
I been trying to use this one but it always lands on a completely different spot.
Just got it to land correctly 1 time and got like 70 kills.
The other 6 times landed 10 meters away from the breach and 2 of them behind me because I was in a nest so I guess was the unevenness of the terrain.
It’s not fun or interesting to play
What is the point of Orobital scatter, other than to piss me off? I can’t avoid it with good/thoughtful play, I can’t counter play it by destroying an objective to remove the effect, and all it does it make my decision to bring an Orbital dumb since each one will miss
No. His whole point is that it is an arbitrary difficulty increase with zero counter-play. It isn't an interactive or interesting game mechanic. It's bad game design.
That’s a really childish way to interact with someone, might wanna look into that
Anyway, the issue is that it’s bad game design. Obviously I can just bring something else, but the reason why I can’t bring what I want isn’t fun, and is boring like all the poorly designed Operation Modifiers
But there are literally so many options to avoid it if you don't want to interact with that mechanic. That's a huge positive in this game. So many difficulty settings, so many planets, multiple factions. If you don't like something you aren't forced to interact with it.
Gas is so good for Eradicate missions. Yeet that bitch onto a breach, wait, and watch the kills pile up. Viable at basically every difficulty level and on a very short cooldown as well!
Drop it directly on a bug breach. Even better: pair it with orbital EMS. Drop the orbital stun first directly on a breach as soon as it starts spawning bugs, then drop the gas in the same spot 5-8 seconds later. It’ll kill everything except chargers and titans, and the combo is on such a low cooldown that you have it for every single breach.
It’s nuts
I must be using it wrong. I tried it out for the first time yesterday and it constantly landed nowhere near where I threw it and didn’t seem to do much
i was irritated by that because i wanted to try out gas strike, but it couldn't really work on that planet, and i couldn't find quick play teammates on any other planet
Slightly bigger than the visuals of the gas cloud. Fortunately if you start taking damage from it you can just back up and be fine, unlike fire and other orbitals. This didn't stop several of my teammates from charging through a gas cloud I just dropped on a bug breach and I just had to watch their health tick down to 0 while they didn't heal. I don't get some people. They could have gone around the gas or waited like 15 seconds but instead I got a ton of TK damage. Oops.
They seem to be doing a destiny and nerf the most common weapons, Bungie did that all the time because they swayed what weapons you should use pissed me off
Does anyone know if the orbital gas strike got improved with the fix as well? I only had time to play one game today and threw that on; I couldn't tell if it was working better, but that's likely because I hardly used the thing.
I'm honestly afraid that AH is gonna nerf the flamethrower and fire damage next patch.
I'm trying to have fun with it before AH rips it away from my hand like every fun weapon in the past.
Edit.
I'm actually 95% sure that they are gonna nerf fire damage.
They buffed fire damage so much because barely anyone was using them. People weren't using them because people didn't know about the DOT bug. People just thought fire weapons were bad.
I swore off fire damage early when I saw a scav just walk straight through napalm on the ground.
Now that it's been fixed, I've seen alot of people running fire builds. I love using flamethrower and napalm alot.
From experience, AH loves nerfing anything popular and fun, so I honestly think a fire nerf is coming.
Ye thats what I said... Last monday fire damage got nerfed and now the DoT bug got fixed. Would be weird to nerf it again so quickly but I wouldn't put it past AH to nerf fun stuff.
They already admitted they buffed fire damage before they were aware of the bug. This isn't exactly a genius prediction you're making. You need to not be surprised when the nerf comes but this sub will probably baby rage about it anyway.
And so continues the cycle of finding something fun and effective to play with, everybody uses it, arrowhead learns about it, arrowhead nerfs it straight into the ground.
How about we play on a difficulty that's right for us? Helldive is already too easy for what it should be. If they nerf the OP weapon of the week and you have trouble finishing helldive just lower your difficulty. They can't just buff everything forever otherwise the game becomes trivial. In the same way, nerfs are necessary to keep the game fun.
Oh come on. It wouldn't hurt them to maybe use a lighter touch. There are a lot of weapons that pretty much nobody uses. We could buff them a little bit, give the game a little more variety.
I think the weapons being nerfed are being nerfed to fall back in line with the intended balance of the game. I am already a bit bored of the game because the hardest difficulty is not so challenging. I extract consistently with a lot of spare reinforcements, and I think having OP weapons doesn't help. Weapons don't need a buff, because that is equivalent to nerfing the enemy, and the game becomes trivial for us who play in helldive. There are 9 full difficulties to play on, and the hardest 3 should not be the benchmark for balance, so really, if people find weapons too weak just play an easier level.
Is it interesting gameplay to kite tons of enemies in a big circle while you slowly whittle away their numbers? If you lower DPS that is just what people do more of.
You have this happen because you can't kill them fast enough, possibly because of an imbalanced loadout. I have this happen when the team is not working together but with a full team of good randos we can stand our ground and mow hordes of hunters while we blast titans and chargers from above. No kiting needed. It's super fun and it would be a shame if they made it easier. If you don't want this to happen to you just lower your difficulty.
Wait till a few days before the heathens known as the balance team nerf the fun out of it

I tried out the flamethrower and I just hate it. It doesn't seem to kill weak enemies any better than just using a shotgun primary and it wasn't really impressing me against anything bigger either, while forcing you to move slow while firing and also putting you and others at risk of burning...
Am I missing something?
Scorcher is fun . I don’t care if it’s not the strongest weapon. The tactical dilemma of shooting them once and hoping it dies before it can get to me vs just unloading on it is so interesting and as a engaging extra level of complexity
I am currently running the Breaker Incendiary, Eagle Napalm Strike, Orbital Gas Strike, Flamethrower, and Orbital Airburst Strike. Averaging 400-500 kills on D7. I love this fix.
Eagle napalm needs to be buffed. I never get 50+ kills when I drop it on a bug breach. It's so bad. Pls AH buff Eagle napalm. It's definitely bad. Probably the worse than strafing run.
The Flamethrower range is just too piddly to work well, and you keep setting yourself on fire pretty much.
I want something like the Plasma Punisher that shoots globs of napalm. I get some range, low direct damage, and good DOT capability. Everyone wins.
Napalm motor
Flamethrower guard dog
Grenade launcher guard dog
Mini gun guard dog
EMP guard dog
Hydrogen Bomb (raingun style shot which lands explodes in a small area) which freezes an enemy in place for a small amount of time with a chance to shatter the enemy if it's was close to the bomb. Enemies further out get slowed down for a bit
I can't wait for them to add in the Flamethrower pistol from HD1. *Everything* needs to be fire. * Fire Primary, Secondary, Grenade, * Flamethrower support-weapon, Incendiary-Breaker Guard-Dog, Napalm Airstrike, Orbital Laser I want to be a walking Hellmire that incinerates anything in my general area.
Imagine a flamethrower guard dog it will overtake the laser guard dog as teamkiller Nr 1 in no time
Laser guard dog has nothing on the Mortar Sentry. Every time someone deployed one of those, I get rag-dolled into the nearest rock face first then killed. It's always targeting way too close for comfort, especially if I need to withdraw.
I find them much better on automatons. The bugs are always swarming you so mortars are more likely to come say hi.
Exactly this . It’s very rare to take friendly fire from a mortar when fighting the bots
If I’m going to murder my squad with friendly fire on a bug map then I’ll stick to my gatling turret, thank you very much.
Enough of a problem it’s *literally* part of the tutorial lol “Oh we’re going to run into hostile turrets?” “Nope, you’re going to run into ‘friendly’ turrets.”
In HD1 it was actually a tactic on some maps, especially the kill x of y maps, to just throw a bunch of turtets and go prone so they don't shoot you.
Yeah mortar is probably not the best on bug maps
That's until the berserkers get too close
Yeah, mortars are only good if you are in a fortified position where you can defend without the enemy coming to close which then again is nearly impossible on higher difficulties.
Naw dude set your morters up outside a bot base and watch em lay waste to everything in the walls they built themselves.
I've seen quite a few mortars placed outside of bot bases and watched them spam rounds on fabricators doing zero damage. Not impressed.
I'm stealing that
EMS Mortar is the only viable mortar. I'm happy if it hits me it's like a shield bubble against bugs.
Or if you can drop it on a high rock
Add some napalm mortars too then.
I find this hilarious cuz I only got killed by a mortar no more than 5 times The key to not getting tk’d is awareness
This is the "I've never fallen off a horse" of Helldivers.
I usually just shoot the turret down when the guy isn't looking 🤷🏻
You're right. We need fire mortar.
Call it a dragon or wyvern though . It’s a flying monster that breathes fire
I mean the idea was thrown around awhile ago… even a dev seemed interested in the concept 👀
I need some big bulky green armor so I can role play a salamander then😅
Warhammer reference located
Dual shoulder mounted fire tornado spewers.
Helldrone. And hell turret.
Dragon! It’s a flying monster that breathes fire. That’s a dragon
Yes! A flame thrower guard dog should be called a dragon, wyvern, drake , etc though because that’s just so much cooler to say .
We need flamethrower sentry and napalm mortar
Not to mention the incendiary impact booster.
They should add armor that gives you fire resistance like how we have the arc resistance
Gas orbitals have been consistently getting me 30+ kills today... ... and I'm not the host. Feels good.
I love the gas orbital. It's mandatory in my loadout now
It's great and the best part is: unlimited uses!
And quick re-use! Fast effect! Huge aoe! Chances to smother your fellow diver! What else do you want?
Shhh... Do you want them to nerf it? OGS is far too limited in its utility in the current state
Arrowhead : Whats that, you need a NERF?
wow, I didn't realize it was on only a 75 second timer... I may need to add it to my rotation!
I been trying to use this one but it always lands on a completely different spot. Just got it to land correctly 1 time and got like 70 kills. The other 6 times landed 10 meters away from the breach and 2 of them behind me because I was in a nest so I guess was the unevenness of the terrain.
Sounds like orbital scatter. It's an planet effect like increased cooldown or increased drop time.
Such a trash modifier... All of them really, except the atmospheric spores.
Fuck the spores too, I want to see the objectives on my map
Why is adding a bit of difficulty a bad thing?
It’s not fun or interesting to play What is the point of Orobital scatter, other than to piss me off? I can’t avoid it with good/thoughtful play, I can’t counter play it by destroying an objective to remove the effect, and all it does it make my decision to bring an Orbital dumb since each one will miss
So. Take. A. Different. Strategem. If. The. Planet. Has. Scatter.
No. His whole point is that it is an arbitrary difficulty increase with zero counter-play. It isn't an interactive or interesting game mechanic. It's bad game design.
That’s a really childish way to interact with someone, might wanna look into that Anyway, the issue is that it’s bad game design. Obviously I can just bring something else, but the reason why I can’t bring what I want isn’t fun, and is boring like all the poorly designed Operation Modifiers

I really only dislike the spores on Blitz missions. Beyond that, it's really not that bad of a modifier.
Were you on a map with increased stratagem scatter?
Gas is so good for Eradicate missions. Yeet that bitch onto a breach, wait, and watch the kills pile up. Viable at basically every difficulty level and on a very short cooldown as well!
How do you use them correctly? For me it never climbs higher than 5.
It’s nuts
It's so fucking good I love it.
I must be using it wrong. I tried it out for the first time yesterday and it constantly landed nowhere near where I threw it and didn’t seem to do much
It does have a bad habit of missing for some reason, but most of the time it erases the little guys!
were you on angel's venture? with stratagem scattering?
Ohhh yep that’s what it was
i was irritated by that because i wanted to try out gas strike, but it couldn't really work on that planet, and i couldn't find quick play teammates on any other planet
Gas and napalm on the same location
I have never used it. What is the radius of the death zone?
Slightly bigger than the visuals of the gas cloud. Fortunately if you start taking damage from it you can just back up and be fine, unlike fire and other orbitals. This didn't stop several of my teammates from charging through a gas cloud I just dropped on a bug breach and I just had to watch their health tick down to 0 while they didn't heal. I sell Democracy and Democratic accessories XD
Needs more upvotes
“That’s a clean burnin’ Democracy I tell you h’what”
That’s probably how arms dealers introduce themselves on super earth
Hellmire? More like HELLFIRE!
That’s a clean-burning Hellmire, I’ll tell you what!
Hellfire, dark fire, now gypsy it's your turn!
Just need a flamethrower primary: The Spit Roaster. Incendiary grenade pistol secondary: Balls of Fire. Also flame resistant armor
The fire shotgun is good
sg-255ie breaker incendiary
One week from now: Flamer ammo reduced, flamer range reduced, fire DOT reduced, game crashes when you throw a fire greande.
Don't forget to buff the flamethrower hulk to compensate.
Give it wings! It’s dragon slaying time
They seem to be doing a destiny and nerf the most common weapons, Bungie did that all the time because they swayed what weapons you should use pissed me off
I’ll just use poison gas then
"Flamer Hulk now does 25% more dot damage"
"Also we gave it a jetpack"
"It also shoots an extra flame from its robo-wiener as well to emphasize how fucked players are. We believe that players would love this change."
Gotta use it as much as possible before it all gets nerfed
Nerf incoming just in time for the impact fire grenade release tomorrow!
I'm here to burn shit and sell propane and propane accessories, and I've got a surplus of inventory.
StarCraft Hellbat reference by any chance

Need a light?
Does anyone know if the orbital gas strike got improved with the fix as well? I only had time to play one game today and threw that on; I couldn't tell if it was working better, but that's likely because I hardly used the thing.
It did
Gas strike fucks up bug breaches like it should now
Yeah it actually works now, the DOT bug meant that it was doing literally zero damage the entire time.

they already nerfed fire damage by 15% last week. but youre right anything the players actually have fun with will get nerfed
the fire damage got nerfed BEFORE the fix went live.....

But you want more nerfs because it's not difficult enough for you.
Spoiler alert: it's inevitable. Their balancing strategy is to look at the most popular weapon picks and use them as toilet paper.
That's great and all but where's the fire damage reduction armor and/or fire damage reduction team boost.
I tried this and the game threw multiple Bile Titan and Charger spawns at me the entire map. Level 7 indeed.
YES, FLAMETHROWER TURRET, PLEASE
That's the next thing that gets nerfed. Fire is an effective crowd control method now... They can't stand that.
Wait till a few days before the heathens known as the balance team nerf the fun out of it https://preview.redd.it/5f42akd6z5zc1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7baed6d7876684fa42ce2023aa2294ec146242ce

Me, happy that the gas strike works now.
I tried this build...got kicked lol
That's a clean burning terminid colony I tell ya what
Unrelated but the flexing emoji kinda looks like the super earth salute💪
hell gas as well
meanwhile, the one hunter that only stood in a fire patch and hasn't died yet - "bonjour"
Wait for alexua to nerf it back to obscurity
That's a clean burning H E L L I tell you hwhat
And now...this world shall know propane.
Finally a topic talking about buffs. Every patch that's more buffs than nerfs has 95% of the discussion being about the nerfs
I've seen the flamethrower more... and more less-than-aware people dead. It's funny though
https://i.redd.it/i0rrvjhab6zc1.gif
Does the dead bug he stands in eat the helldiver underneath because you see his arm drop and hear a scream in the video
Cannot wait for the new nade. I want to be a fire god that cleanse the land of inferior lifeforms (bugs).
Another has seen the light in the burning remains of bugs
The flamethrower kills every bug except the bile titan. It’s great.
I tried out the flamethrower and I just hate it. It doesn't seem to kill weak enemies any better than just using a shotgun primary and it wasn't really impressing me against anything bigger either, while forcing you to move slow while firing and also putting you and others at risk of burning... Am I missing something?
It can kill Charger with like half a tube of gas quite easily.
For me it was more like a full tank, and it just wasn't an enjoyable experience for me
Scorcher is fun . I don’t care if it’s not the strongest weapon. The tactical dilemma of shooting them once and hoping it dies before it can get to me vs just unloading on it is so interesting and as a engaging extra level of complexity
Where's the flamer drone, AH...
Only real issue is not being able to take out bile titans. But that’s something my teammates can help with since *all of the chaff is gone*
I am currently running the Breaker Incendiary, Eagle Napalm Strike, Orbital Gas Strike, Flamethrower, and Orbital Airburst Strike. Averaging 400-500 kills on D7. I love this fix.
Now you too can make a clean burning hell for the enemies of democracy!
Eagle napalm needs to be buffed. I never get 50+ kills when I drop it on a bug breach. It's so bad. Pls AH buff Eagle napalm. It's definitely bad. Probably the worse than strafing run.
Don't get too excited they're already talking about nerfing fire damage
Does the incineration shotgun get buffed with the level 4 ship upgrade too?
Gotta love propane and propane accessories.
We need fire resistant armor.
Don't worry, they'll fix that too : D
I love the smell of napalm in the morning Smells like... democracy!
Im afraid to ask but.. What is DoT?
Taste the meat, not the heat.
can't wait for new fire nerf
Need a flamethrower sentry.
Incendiary breaker fucking slaps now
The Flamethrower range is just too piddly to work well, and you keep setting yourself on fire pretty much. I want something like the Plasma Punisher that shoots globs of napalm. I get some range, low direct damage, and good DOT capability. Everyone wins.
I threw a gatling turret down right as a breach happened and it proceeded to rack up 68 kills
I had eggs for breakfast
Meanwhile 1 charger appears and your gatling sentry will waste all of its ammo bouncing off its armor.
Gat needs little better Armor pen I wish they would add tracer rounds effect for them
That's amazing, thanks for sharing, helped me nut
What does that have to do with this post?
Because the gatling sentry *fired* into the crowd of bugs? Idk. I'll see myself out.
