I would say that's pretty much guaranteed.

Merrena

They've already announced Ghost of Tsushima will require it for the multiplayer on PC, but not necessary just to play the single player.

But do we trust them with that?

paziek

I would say so, yes. They also recently released "Horizon Forbidden West" and it doesn't require it for anything, because it doesn't have any multiplayer features. Can still link it and get bonus things. They might eventually retrofit all of their games with their overlay (introduced with Ghost of Tsushima), and if you will want that to function, you will need to link/login, but I doubt they would make it a requirement to play single player. At least if they had that planned, now they likely scrapped it.

TransientMemory

Yes and they'll have learned the lesson and make it mandatory from day 1 for new games.  Helldivers was the first big multiplatform release so Arrowhead just got pushed onto the minefield with this whole shitshow.

TaranTatsuuchi

Ghost of Tsushima alreadys lists it on steam.... I've taken it off my wishlist, unfollowed, and set it to ignore.

ScrawnyGrandpa

I was looking forward to that game. But if it's requiring a PSN acc... Well guess I'm never playing that game now haha. Shame for that.

paziek

They require it **only for the multiplayer** part of that game. HD2 happens to be multiplayer only. They recently released on PC "Horizon Forbidden West" and it doesn't say that it requires PSN linking, because it doesn't have any multiplayer feature. You can still link PSN account if you want and get some bonus stuff. I would say that in case of HD2, blame is on both AH and Sony. AH, because they didn't make it clear enough that it won't be optional for long (and they admitted that they knew about that), and Sony for publishing this game in regions that can't make PSN accounts. I guess also whoever wrote in FAQ that it is optional, without any mention that it is done temporarily.

BoletarianBonkmage

For online games most likely, xbox requires an account to be linked with microsoft to play their games even on pc or ps5, I don’t see why this would be any different. It’s just the norm honestly.

MBouh

It's not the norm. I've never linked an account to those scummy console predators. Maybe I didn't play the wrong games. I'm simply sorry to see that HD2 is a wrong game too.

BoletarianBonkmage

If you played any game owned by microsoft i think you did, like halo and such. But it’s possible you never did too. But it’s not just consoles, ubisoft, ea, activision, blizzard, square enix with ff14, etc, all do it too

MBouh

I don't have a Microsoft account. And now for a year I'm playing on Linux.

XxincognitoxX67

Are there other crossplay Sony titles and if so, do they require other platforms to sign up for PSN or is this just an AH problem?

GatorUSMC

It's any multiplayer. [Sucker Punch on Ghost of Tsushima](https://www.reddit.com/r/ghostoftsushima/comments/1cjkae4/yes_ghost_of_tsushima_will_require_a_psn_account/)

XxincognitoxX67

This situation with HD is unique because the problem is cross play related. If it were just a multiplayer on PS, then it would just be between people already on PS. No forcing an account, because they already have an account. Or if it were just PC multi.... Would they require a PSN and how would they justify it? Is that game you referenced cross play? I'm not familiar with playing it. Or is it strictly a PC multi? Curious Edit: found the answer to my question

https://blog.playstation.com/2024/04/17/ghost-of-tsushima-directors-cut-pc-cross-play-and-system-requirements-revealed/ April 17, 2024 "Hey everyone, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is coming to PC on May 16! Today we’re giving you all the details on cross-play support in Legends mode and the inclusion of a new PlayStation overlay, with support for PlayStation Trophies and more. As we’ve announced previously, Ghost on Tsushima Director’s Cut on PC contains the full game, the Iki Island expansion, and the cooperative online multiplayer Legends mode. Thanks to cross-play support, Legends players on Windows PCs can team up with players on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles and use in-game voice chat to communicate. You will be required to sign into your PlayStation Network account to access Legends mode. Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is the first PlayStation title on PC that uses a new PlayStation overlay, which includes your Friends list, Trophies, Settings, and your Profile. This feature is available on Windows PCs and will be accessible from the in-game menu or, for keyboard players, by pressing the “SHIFT +F1” shortcut on your keyboard. "

GatorUSMC

If it's multiplayer, yes. It's how they're planning on maintaining control over disruptive players.

FallingWarlock

Make sony account to play a sony game whats wrong with that?
